At my first contact with Mr. Wood I had asked for references. He did supply me with several names both business and personal to check. All of the people I called were very satisfied with Mr. Wood's work. One of the business references stated that Mr. Wood had painted several offices for him and then said that he would not used anyone else. The bar was set in my mind for Woods Painting and probably a little higher than normal due to those references. Wood Painting came into our office and boy did they ever deliver on the expectations. Very polite group that worked around our offices while we were open for business and continue working. They did a very thorough prep work throughout the building and made sure everything was taken care of. As of this writing, they are almost finished with their work and I have to say that I am very pleased with the results. I would not have a problem joining those other references and recommending Woods Painting to anyone that needed a painter!

Rod did an outstanding job on a roof repair which lead to doing additional work repairing a chimney that was improperly done twice before since we owned the home. He explained in detail the process of the repair. He replaced rotten wood that seemed to be painted over before, fabricated wood around the door frame that was rotten. I greatly appreciate the attention to the slightest of details around the exterior of the house. Again, pointing out other areas that needed attention before painting the entire house. Rod was timely and completed the entire job, not juggling our project with others. I will use him again for repairs or any house issues that need addressing. He is honest, does outstanding work, and leaves the job site neat and clean. I highly recommend him for any of your handy man needs or home repairs.

WRIII (Tre') did a fantastic job "saving" my ceiling in my garage. The spackling (stippling) has been falling off for a while, and eventually the tape and seams were falling down as well. Some of the dry wall was sagging too, and I thought we would have to completely replace the entire ceiling in the garage. After Tre' took a look, he recommended scraping the remainder of the stipple and tape off, sealing the entire surface with an oil based primer / sealer, using sheetrock screws to pull the low hanging sheetrock back into place, retaping and mudding and then re-stippling. That was a way more affordable solution than replacing, and once he completed the job, `it looks absolutely amazing. It looks brand new. Tre' did an outstanding job for a fair price, and got the work done faster than I expected. He was extremely particular (a perfectionist) and his work isn't done until he is satisfied, I highly recommend WRIII to anyone needing drywall work, or painting.

Greg has completed many jobs at my house. First he remodeled our three room apartment downstairs. This included installing a shower, painting, installing lighting fixtures, mountilng cabinets and painting them. He also takes care of our grounds. We have about 3-4 acres and his ground keeping skills are impeccable.

My name is Nancy. I live in Cincinnati but was in Columbus, Georgia with my dad TJ, who will be 92 this month. TJ lost his caregiver to a heart attack and I stayed with him for 3 weeks trying to make his home safer for him so he could stay there. I searched on the internet for handyman and was directed to Lamar from Murphys flooring and more. WE HIT THE JACK POT!! I was impressed with Lamar from the beginning. He was the first to respond to my request and came to see what we needed done that day. THERE WAS NOT ONE SINGLE THING WE NEEDED DONE THAT HE COULD NOT DO. We simply told him what we saw needed to be changed or repaired and, he took over from there. He was always polite and made my dad feel very comfortable. My dad has Lamar's card on a magnet on his refrigerator and he knows he can call Lamar for anything he needs done. My dad wants to keep him coming on a regular basis to help with the yard. Lamar has a good soul and it shows. He is EXTREMELY honest and takes a lot of pride in his work. I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYBODY. There is only one thing you will have to watch with Lamar........his beautiful smile is contagious. If I could have, I would have brought him back to Cincinnati to do the repairs I need on my house. Lamar, I apologize for the delay in sending this. I came home to a personal situation with my daughter that took my undivided attention. Lamar, you are the best. God Bless You!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
