Omar did a great job painting my kitchen. It was my first time using True Colors Custom Painting and I was not disappointed. Attention was paid to detail. They were respectful of my property. I will definitely be calling on them again.

I talked my parents into coming down to help us stain our fence and after spending a day trying to figure out how to get the sprayer we rented to work we gave up and figured we'd see how much it would cost to have a professional come out. Mike and Michael came over to give us a quote the next morning. They said adjusted their quote for what we needed and the price was really great! When the rainy week finally took a break they came out first thing in the morning and knocked it out pretty quick. The quality of the work was the real seller for me though. They covered the entire fence including taking the gate hinges and latches off and pulling some weeds I missed to ensure the stain was complete. The photo doesn't do it justice but the right side to the gate door is where we did it overly thick and the left is where they did it with professional skills! (don't mind the left over paint buckets I haven't moved)

Kane did an amazing job painting multiple rooms quickly and for a fair price. He showed up exactly when promised and was easy to work with. I highly recommend him, and would hire him again, no question.

Jim has done everything for our house and we couldn't be happier. He did all the trim work and paint throughout the house. He also built a farm house table and refinished furniture for the dining room. We have plans to remodel the bathrooms and we know he will continue to impress us. He is always super friendly and does great work. He is clean, respectful of your home and he will work around your schedule. He will remain our contractor for many projects to come!

I had the privilege of working with Keith on several projects in my older Chattanooga bungalow (which we sold) thanks to Keith's many repairs. I had Keith doing everything from a leaky roof to installing a sink, even replaced a door, gutter work, painting etc... He always showed up on time and performed the job requested. We've moved back to Cookeville to my 100+ yr old home... And this is TRUTH... yesterday I told my husband..." I NEED A KEITH FOR COOKEVILLE" to which he whole heartedly agreed. This guy is the one!!! Look no further. The trifecta skill+professionalism+affordability.

I originally hired CMV Worx to do some tile work for me, the owner, David was a really nice guy and did such a great job that I hired him to do crown molding throughout my house and also paint my living room and dining room. After talking to him he gave me a better price to mow my lawn than I was currently paying. I am very happy and thankful for the job CMV Worx did on my house and the landscaping he continues to do. Very professional and courteous company that I would recommend to anyone needing some work done to their house or just need their yard mowed.

I hired these guys to do some interior and exterior remodeling on my home. One word to describe them.. AWESOME! I replaced about 1000 sq ft of carpet with hardwood floor as well as new Trim. Also replaced the carpet in 3 rooms including trim and completely redid a bathroom from the floor up with ceramic tile and a new vanity. They also painted my entire house and build a gorgeous picket fence in the front yard. They exceeded my expectations in every way. I def. recommend.

Alan did three rooms in our home: the kitchen, master bath, and guest bath. He finished the bathrooms with conversion varnish, finished the kitchen with lacquer paint, had custom doors built in our requested style, installed soft close hinges, replaced hardware, and installed pull-out systems for our trash and recycling. We expected the cabinets to look refinished (that is, better, but still the "old" cabinets with new paint). Instead, our kitchen and bathrooms look as though we replaced all of the cabinets. The finish is extremely high quality and looks original to the cabinets, not like we painted over something. Alan was able to give recommendations on paint quality and types, allowing us to select a high quality finish that looks great and will hold up over time. He was very friendly and enjoyable to have in our home. Alan does meticulous work. If you are looking for someone to slap on a coat of paint and leave in one day, he is not your guy. If you want cabinets that truly look like new, spend the extra time with Alan and have your job done the right way. Alan pays attention to detail and maintains a clean and high-quality work space. He continually reviewed our options with us and did not make any assumptions about what we would prefer, even asking us about which way our new trash door should open. This job took more time, but the end result was worth it. Our cabinets are beautiful and more functional than we could have imagined. The final product far exceeded our expectations.

Great experience! J did a fabulous job with this painting assignment. The final product looks way better than new. J made great decisions in the paint selection, and I expect it will last much longer than in the past. A true professional, delightfully friendly and very hard working. Highly recommended!

Juan was a pleasure to work with. We hired him to paint our house (he was referred to us by a friend who had hired him to paint their house) and we were so impressed with him that we had him come back and do a bunch of other work for us too - tiling, flooring, fixtures and fittings. He always showed up on time, worked as hard as anyone I’ve met and did really excellent work. I highly recommend him - his work is excellent and he works fast and his prices are very fair. See pics attached of the before and after on our house that Juan painted.

I needed a roof and soffit replacement on my garage building. Alan did an outstanding job with a metal roof replacement. He ended up having more extensive repairs than just replacing soffits but he handled each situation very well. He painted the building and installed some exterior motion lights for me. He worked for several days to complete the job. He cleaned up the debris nicely and I was very satisfied with the completed job. The overall cost was very reasonable.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
