I found Adrienne through my friend who is using her for her wedding day hair/makeup. I needed a last minute hair stylist for some of my bridesmaids on my wedding day and Adrienne was more than willing to help me out. She was very friendly and timely in her responses to my emails/requests. She came to our location with her assistant Shawnice and they both did a wonderful job--all of my bridesmaids looked beautiful for my big day. Overall it was a great experience. Thanks Adrienne!

After 2 trials with other artists that didn't go well, I found Reem 5 days before my wedding! She squeezed me in for a trial, made me feel comfortable and did an amazing job. I hired her for hair and makeup for myself and bridesmaids. She is reasonably priced and does an amazing job. I have a lot of scarring that she was able to conceal and not make me look "cakey" or overdone. She was a lifesaver for sure!!

Renee did the hair for me and my bridal party this last weekend, and we could not have been happier! She was on time, and really fun and professional to work with. We brought photos of the updos that we wanted to have and she pulled them off to the tee, and even helped us apply fake lashes and some finishing details to our look. Thank you Renee, we loved our hair and loved working with you!

I was referred to Keka about a year ago. My tresses were on serious need of some TLC and a low maintenance style. Keka not only transformed my hair to a contemporary look, she also nursed my natural hair back to health. Now, I faithfully visit Keka's Hair Boutique every two weeks and each time I have a professional and enjoyable experience!

Stellar job - proficient and professional. I would recommend Morgan (BeautyxGeorgia) for any friend or family member of my own. She takes her time in the beautification process and valued me, truly made me feel like I was her priority and did an awesome job on my hair and makeup for an unplanned event with quick response time. I will be referring her to anyone and everyone I know needing style advice and guidance, as she was extremely informative as to how to better care for my hair with tips and tricks to keeping my make up fresh and luminous! Thanks so much!!!

DaNina was prompt, expedious, SUPER talented and so much fun to work with. My makeup lasted all day for my outdoor wedding at 85°F and 90% humidity. I also had my hair done by one of DaNina's hairstylists, Theri, who was amazingly gifted and kind!

Marissa did an absolutely incredible job on makeup for my wedding day! She was professional and personable, and was great to work with. We had a great trial run for makeup, and she even helped plan out a timeline to ensure that the day went smoothly and everyone looked and felt their best. The day of felt like a whirlwind, but all of our hair and makeup was done exactly on schedule and everyone looked stunning. My three year old was thrilled to get some gloss from "Ms. Marissa", and especially loved getting to "help" with mommy's makeup ;) I was as excited for her keepsake beginners makeup kit (extra sponges and gloss applicators that are still used daily) as I was for the super useful touch-up kit Marissa left for our lipstick and gloss. I am so thankful for the great experience I had with Marissa, and cannot imagine having had a better day or look with anyone else. My make-up was everything I could've wished for- I still looked like me, but fresh and glowing and, well, like a bride :) I cannot say enough good things about the experience as a whole. Any one aspect of the day would've garnered a positive review- from her professionalism, to the quality of her work (that make-up didn't budge!!), her style and artistry, to her friendliness and great attitude; but with all of those together it was truly an exceptional experience. Thank you so much Marissa, for making it so special, fun, and memorable.

Star is the best person in the hair business BY FAR! She has done my hair many times and never have I walked away upset or okay with my hair; Star always makes me and my hair feel like a million bucks. Especially having curly hair, it is incredibly hard to find someone who knows how to handle and appreciate my hair. Star did my hair for prom and saved my night. My dress ripped, luckily I had a backup one, but my hair looked so amazing that I did not care !!! Star is so dedicated that she will redo a braid, curl, or hairstyle not only if the customer doesn’t think it’s perfect (a rare occasion) but also when it doesn’t meet her high standards for herself. Each time Star does someone’s hair, she makes sure that it is the best hairstyling yet. Star is sweet, fun to talk to, accommodating, and the best hairstylist in Atlanta.

I must say I love my short natural curly hair, but I get bored with it. Thanks to Official Glitz for giving me long natural extension when I'm that mood. Glad it's you who's my hair stylist. Xxoo

(And if I may say, he's the best BLOND colorist in the state of Georgia!) I get compliments on my hair all of the time and I can't take the credit. It's Eddie's magic that makes it look so good!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mobile hairdresser?

A mobile hairdresser is a cosmetologist trained to cut, color and style hair who can provide hairdressing services at remote locations. Often, mobile hairdressers are hired for events such as weddings, bachelorette parties, prom night, birthdays and other occasions. The hairstylist can come to your location to do your hair, or provide hairstyling for your group.

For events, mobile hairstylists more often provide updos and formal styles than highlights or hair color. Mobile hairdressers bring all the necessary hairstyling tools and products such as lotions and sprays to create your look. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110. Pricing for different services can vary greatly depending on stylist reputation, training and regional rates. For example, haircuts could range between $35 and $150, while hair coloring services could range in price from $65 to $200. Some mobile hairstylists may include the cost of travel in their fees, while other may have it as an added charge, such as 50 cents to $1 for each mile beyond their standard service range.

    What is a hair extension?

A hair extension is a beauty product designed to give you the appearance of longer and/or fuller hair. Hair extensions are made of synthetic material or real human hair and are attached to your natural hair by a variety of techniques such as a weave (sewing), hot fusion, tape-in, cold fusion, bonding, metal clips, micro ring or micro loops, and more. The type of technique you select as well as the quality and volume of the hair you choose all affect cost. Hair extensions can last anywhere from three weeks to six months, depending on the application technique. For example, tape-in extensions may last approximately four weeks, while extensions applied using a hot fusion technique may stay in for up to six months. The hot fusion technique takes longer, costs more, and requires more training on the part of the hair stylist, but the result is more natural-looking extensions that can be washed and heat-styled with confidence.

    What is a seamless extension?

A seamless hair extension is a type of clip-on hair extension. The extension hair is called the weft. Near the top of the weft, a metal clip mounted to the weft on a silicone base is used to attach the extension to your natural hair. In a traditional clip-on extension, the base that attaches the metal clip to the weft is fabric.

People may prefer seamless extensions due to their lower profile; the silicone can be up to 50 percent thinner than the fabric, making the extension appear more natural — and, therefore, seamless. Seamless extensions usually can be washed (although you shouldn’t keep them submerged for more than 20 seconds) and heat-styled on lower heat settings. You can gently brush seamless hair extensions as well as have them dyed a darker color by a trained professional.

How much should you tip a hairstylist?

A hairstylist can provide you with a cut, color or highlights, or style your hair for an event. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110, but prices can vary greatly depending on the service you receive, where you live, and the salon’s or hairdresser’s reputation. A good rule of thumb is to tip your hairstylist 20 percent of your total bill. In smaller towns, 15 percent may be the norm, but in larger cities 20 percent is generally the baseline. If you frequent a salon where the shampooer, colorist, and hair cutter are all different people, you can divide that 20 percent among those service providers in proportion to the skill level and time required to do their job. Many hairstylists rent a chair from the salon and must pay a monthly rent to the salon owner.

How much do hair extensions cost?

Hair extensions are synthetic or real human hair integrations that add volume and length to your hair. Hairstylists are trained in different techniques to attach extensions to your hair. The cost of extensions can vary greatly depending on the technique used to apply the hair, as well as the type of hair you select. Synthetic hair is typically the least expensive, human hair is next on the pricing scale, remy hair is next, and what is called “virgin” human hair is generally the most sought-after and most expensive. Remy hair signifies that all the cuticles are intact and running in the same direction, making for smoother hair extensions in the long term. Hair is deemed virgin when all the hair is from one donor and has never undergone any chemical processing. Hair prices will vary from company to company; here are some examples of hair from online retailers.

    • Virgin strands (25 strands weighing approximately 1 gram each) for hot fusion application: $44 per bundle.
    • Virgin hair weave (approximately 4 ounces per package): $149 each.

Here are some sample application costs from hairstylists.

    • Full sew-in: $175-$200 or more.
    • Partial sew-in: $125 or more.
    • Micro-link weft extensions: $300 or more.
    • Full-bonded extensions: $75 or more.
