I had a major clog in my shower drain. I called Scott and he gave me an eta. He was at my door promptly when he said and resolved the clog very efficiently. I was so thankful and relieved. I'll definitely use his services again for all my handyman needs.

A real pleasure to work with Jontell. He was on time the same day we requested service. He was knowledgeable in handling some problems that cropped up during installation of our faucets and drain. He price was more than fair. I would definitely use him again. He does electrical, HVAC and carpentry.

Antonio was great. His prices are reasonable. He is very responsive, very professional, works very hard. He did great work. He removed my interior tankless hot water heater and I bought a new outdoor unit and he installed it. He also had my shower drain into a bucket outside with a sump pump in it with a garden hose - so I could use my shower water to water the grass. It works great.

Usually I fix clogged bathroom by myself, but this time the block was withstanding all my plumage and auger efforts. The pro fixed the problem in less than 2 hours using a special drainage cleaning machine. The whole thing was done from the outside of the house, which was most favorable to keep my bathroom safe and clean from scratches. The only issue I had was they were late on the schedule due to previous job or somethings. However, when Keith called he acknowledged that and apologized for the delay. To me, no shows, are usually a no go. This time Keith was candid and honest about it, which to me, makes the whole difference and why I decided on giving him 5 stars!

Nordia responsed to my request within about an hour of posting it online. I called her and she was at my door about 2 hours later!! Our kitchen sink drain had an awful smell which we thought may be the studor vent. Nordia came with a vent and did the job quickly and was so friendly. She even pointed out a leak that started to be problematic that we will need to deal with in the future. I chose Gotta Leak because their price for labor was lower than most companies and their reviews were very positive. I'd continue to use Gotta Leak for our plumbing issues. -Erin

Hunter and his team did a great job. They cleared our very clogged main drain when everyone else’s solution was to “replace all the cast iron” after they couldn’t clear it. He and his team also installed a clean-out for easier access in the future. They didn’t leave until the job was done and for a very reasonable price. I would hire them again and would recommend.

I developed a broken pipe with water spewing everywhere. It was 10:45 pm. Ossie respnded immediately! He came to my condo first thing on Saturday since i was able to shut the water off. He did a fantastic job! He was very instructive explaining everything that he was doing. He cleaned up beautifully. When we had a problem reactivating the shut off valve he made that repair as well. His charges we extraordinarily reasonable for weekend work

Mr. Penney did a few home improvement projects for my family. He was on time and very professional. The services done included putting crown molding in a bedroom, painting said bedroom, building shelves and installing in a closet, and cleaning our gutters. We are extremely pleased with the tile flooring that was installed in our basement, it looks beautiful! The workmen were friendly, and arrived on time everyday. The project was completed ahead of time and on budget. The subfloor had been very un-level, and they were able to fix that problem and the tiles lay level and squared. They cleaned up after themselves everyday, and after the job was completed. They helped moved heavy furniture as well. I highly recommend Five Brothers, and we're planning on using them again in the future. Their prices and workmanship can't be beat!

They put a deck on my basement level. They came on time and had job completed that evening. They also repair the main gate on my privacy fence. They cleaned the entire work site and even stack some bricks I had scattered on the back yard. I am really please with the deck. I will have them come back for other jobs.

Eric is very polite and knowledgeable. He worked efficiently and cleaned up after his work which included installing two ceiling fans. Eric is extremely dependable, unlike most guys who do handyman work. I have already hired him again and recommended him to a neighbor.

Troy is a great guy! Job done well and on time. Fair cost as well. Tank is clean now, with a new cover and he sealed the 'exit' thing... at no extra cost! I saved his number!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
