Lawrence just came this morning, but he showed up on time and was very courteous and professional. I will see how it goes with the pest! I saw a bug when I got home, but I think that is expected when they first spray! Thanks Lawrence!

We have been using Kuma Pest Control, and we have had NO bugs since day one. Thank goodness, the palmetto bugs, silverfish and cockroaches had pushed me to my limit. Well worth the money and investment. Kuma is very flexible, professional, and friendly.

My experience with One Shot Pest Control was amazing!! On 10/29 on a Thursday morning at 9 a.m. I had a scheduled appointment with One Shot pest control to come to my home to spray for water bugs on my deck and spiders in my garage. This was the first time I used One Shot so I had no idea what to expect. I was anxious to get the job done. At 8:50 a.m. I see a truck pull up with One Shot Pest Control on it. Well first impression is everything. I couldn't believe they were here on time. A young man made his way to my front door. He introduced himself as Mr Lewis and told me he represented One Shot and he was here to take care of my bug and spider problem. Mr Lewis sprayed my deck and my garage in more places I could imagine plus it seems that he cared about what he was doing and was very knowledgeable about his job. As of today, November 3rd, I can contest that whatever Mr Lewis sprayed is resolving the problem because every time I turn around I see dead bugs and spiders. I think whatever he sprayed killed off the small insects as well. Great job, One Shot! I will definitely use this company again. Marilyn Harris

Mr. Pursley and his team provided excellent customer service and care to me and my home. You DO NOT HAVE TO LIVE WITH CARPENTER BEES eating your home. Call Dragonfly Mosquito Specialists today. I wish I had not waited years to find help with my carpenter bee and ant problem. I learned a great deal from Mr. Pursley about carpenter bees including carpenter ants, YUCK! They exceeded my expectations (cleaned the windows after spraying the treatment). I don't think there is a bug/insect problem they cannot handle. You will not be disappointed choosing to work with Dragonfly Mosquito Specialists.

Our excellent experience with Nature's Turf began last Spring with an army worm infestation in our newly planted lawn. We called them after an internet search and were surprised that they were able to come out that day and subsequently saved our lawn. Since then we have had excellent services from their lawn treatment techs and office staff.

We moved in to our house one year ago, and Mike was the previous owner's Pest Guy. At first, we just had him service the termite stations, but then we had him do our pest control also, and he has truly been outstanding. He has a long Swiffer-like brush that he runs over all the eaves of the house to knock down spider webs--we have never seen anyone be as thorough! He comes quarterly, but if we ever see a bug in the house in between treatments, he will come to treat immediately. We had an issue with the little Argentine black "sugar" ants earlier this year, and he resolved it very quickly. (Our previous Pest Guy made us live with a trail of ants for days until they finally ate the bait and died.) He is also fully insured so that if you do have termite damage while under his care, his insurance covers it. We have someone in our family who had thousands of dollars in termite damage, but their Pest Guy wasn't insured for it and they had to pay out of pocket. If you live in GA, it's not a question of "If" you will get termites, it's just a question of "When'. We feel so secure knowing Mike it taking care of our house, and we really like supporting small business owners who personally answer their phone when you call them!

I hired PointSource Pest Control to take care of a hornet nest in a tree between my neighbor and I. Kendrick was super nice, experienced and educated me on not only hornet nests but other pests as well. It was truly a pleasure and I highly recommend him and his services. He even thanked me for caring enough to have the nest taken care of to protect the neighborhood.

Jaime was wonderful! He showed up right on time and quickly got rid of several hornets nests (big and small) outside of our home. His services were very reasonably priced in comparison to the larger corporate pest control companies. He even took the time to walk with us and listen to our various pest control concerns and offered helpful solutions. I highly recommend Jaime and will 100% be using his company again.

Dylan came to my home for an ant problem I was having. He arrived right on time and gave me a reasonable price (based on other quotes I had received) he was able to take care of the ant problem the same day. I signed up for quarterly pest control and mosquito. I would recommend Safeguard to anyone I know. Not only are my ants gone but my kids can finally enjoy playing in the yard.

I only have great things to say about Pyramid. Ever since they have been treating my house I haven’t had any bug problems. In the past, I used a larger chain for my quarterly pest control and always had ants or roaches running around which drove me nuts. I called Pyramid one morning and they were at my house that afternoon. I signed up for their yearly service and am now officially "bug free”. What I really love is that I get better service and quality product in fewer visits.

My wife recently bought a house in Alpharetta and after several recommendations from our neighbors we decided to hire BACO Exterminating for Sentricon and Pest Control treatment. Everyone we have spoken to at BACO has been extremely knowledgable and has gone above and beyond expectations from a customer service standpoint. The gentleman who came out to our house yesterday was super nice and full of personality and we could tell he was passionate about making us satisfied as customers. We couldn't be happier with our decision to hire BACO and would recommend them to anyone without hesitation.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How do you get rid of termites?

The best way to get rid of termites is to act fast. Termites are a problem that will only get worse — and no matter how much you want them to, they usually don’t magically move out on their own. There are three main types of termites: drywood, dampwood and subterranean. Drywood and dampwood termites sneak through cracks in your exterior paint, nail holes, and gaps near windows and other openings and begin to eat through your wood. Subterranean termites enter your house from the ground up by creating mud tunnels. In all cases, they survive by eating the wood of your house. The type of termites you have can steer the treatment plan.

Methods of termite extermination include fumigation, use of pesticides, and use of natural elements that are poisonous to the bugs. The extent of your termite infestation will help determine the treatment method. If you have drywood or dampwood termites that have infiltrated all aspects of the wood in your home, the pest control pro may recommend enclosing the whole house in a tent and gassing the termites via fumigation. If you have subterranean termites, often the entire footprint of the home must be treated by drilling liquid treatments into the slab or foundation of the home to exterminate the colonies. In any case, once you see signs of termites, it’s time to take action and call a pest pro.

What are the signs of termites in your home?

When you see signs of termites in your home, call a trusted pest control professional as soon as possible to handle the situation. Termites feed on wood, meaning they eat through the wood that makes up the frame, floors and other components of your house. Most people don’t know they have termites until they discover the damage done, because termites remain hidden underground or inside the wood they are eating. Keep on the lookout for these signs of termites:

  • Water bubbles in your interior or exterior paint: If you poke at what look like paint bubbles and find termite droppings inside, it’s a sign of termite infestation.
  • Frass: This is a fancy term for termite poop. Keep your eyes peeled for what look like six-sided salt and pepper droppings.
  • Mud tubes: Subterranean termites move between their earth home and your house by building mud tunnels. Mud tubes under or along the side of your house or foundation are a sure sign of a termite infestation.
  • Wings or swarming near your home: As a new colony is looking for a home, they fly (swarm), then shed their wings and burrow into nearby wood.
  • Softening of wood or hollowed-out wood: Termites don’t like paint, lacquer varnish or other wood finishes, so they’ll eat inside the wood and leave the exterior finish like a shell.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.
