Describe the job What did Mike Doble help you with? Mike Doble with AppNet has been a huge asset to getting our real estate business out in the public eye. Mike is always there when you need him and willing to make even my most difficult of requests work. We love our new website and it would not have been possible without his expertise and hard work! His services were worth every penny! Where was the job? Our real estate company is located in Denver, NC. and the greater Lake Norman area. How long did it take? The process took 3 months. Reason being, I was personally swamped with being the top selling agent in NC & SC, setting company records in sales. If I personally, would have had a quicker reply to their proofs we could have shortened the time by 4 weeks. Say what went well What impressed you about the service? I was super impressed with Mike’s honest and accurate assessment of our real estate company’s website needs from our very first conversation. I must confess, I was sticker shocked at the cost of our project. However, he was able to stay within our budget. No hidden cost! That is huge! His services were were worth every penny! Even more impressive was Mike’s ability to stay on schedule during a horrific life storm. Unfortunately, Mike and one of his staff members experienced two very serious family tragedies during the time slot of building our website. I was blown away at how they were able to stay on schedule! I stand in admiration with his standard of excellence. Did Mike Doble go above and beyond? I purposefully had shopped 12 different web designers in a 12 month period. The fact that Mike interacted with me as an educator was what set him apart from his competition. If I was going to spend the money, I wanted the best! Mike was excellent at sitting down with me via a web chat and strategizing about our web design project down to the tiniest details. He set the bar high with his client care. His entire staff followed suit. Their practices are quite fantastic. Was Mike Doble on time? Mike had specific timelines for all the bits and pieces of the web design. I was really impressed! How was the quality of the work? Each stage of the design process was approached with extreme care and attention to detail. Mike and the AppNet team over delivered in the quality of product and service that I received! Point out what could have been better What would have improved your experience? What would have improved my experience during the process of building my website would have been if I were educated with the lingo of the technology world. Being website design and internet presence is all Greek to me, I needed them to translate for me in lay terms. Continuously. Which they did very professionally! What went wrong, if anything? I am an Apple computer user. I only know mac products. There was a hiccup with my browser. They could not mirror the problem, because they did not have a mac computer in the office. However, through screen shots back and forth they were able to finally correct the issue. How could Mike Doble do better in the future? Being a website is a living, breathing, eating machine, (Mike’s words) my only suggestion would be for him to implement a follow up plan with his past clients, to see if there were any other services that his company, AppNet, could implement for their company. For example, adding more landing pages and brain storming how we could beef up our online presence. I guess I was looking for an ongoing marketing relationship. Like, lets talk about phase two. Phase three. Phase four. I am in need of his wise counsel to advise me on how cyber space is responding to my new website. Kind of like our financial advisor meets with us to tell us how our investments are doing. Let’s add this. Let’s stop that. As of now, I am still an online bill board. A great looking bill board. BUT no leads. I am fully confident that AppNet can take us to the next level. Secondly, Being the digital/internet world is quickly becoming post PC, I think Mike and each of his design team needs to learn as much about Apple computer products as possible. Subscribing to Lynda.com may be good resource. AppNet may want to consider their next hire to be Mac savvy. I suggest AppNet update their systems by adding a Mac Lab that consist of an Apple desktop, MacBook Pro laptop, iPad and an iPhone for the purpose of being able to stay ahead of their completion! In closing, as a web developer, Mike Doble was very professional, someone who was easy to work with, he stayed in our budget, and was able to meet our website needs. On a scale of 1-10, as a professional Mike Doble is a 12. At Cloninger Properties, we say Mike Doble and Appnet are the best thing that ever happened to us!

The items for my project haven't shipped yet, but I was so impressed by the professionalism and communication from Wendy that I wanted to leave a feedback here. Wendy communicated with me every step of the way, provided recommendations on what would work best from her experience and also took care of all the required attention to detail. When she first reached out to me, I was already very impressed with her attitude, responsiveness and approach. She has been very proactive in her communication and constant kept me in the loop regarding the status before I had to even ask. I look forward to using her on my next project and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for creative projects around designing and vinyl decal transfer stickers..

What work was performed? Munlink Graphix created a logo, postcards, email banners and business cards for Renew You Marriage and Relationship Coaching. Www.renuwyou.org What impressed us about the service? What impressed us about the service was his professionalism. He was very kind and courteous. He gave us the cost of service up front and he did not have any hidden agendas. Munlink Graphix designed three different logos and he allowed us to pick the one we liked. We received our products in a timely manner and we are very happy with the finished products produced by Munlink Graphix. I am extremely pleased to recommend Rebecca for book publishing work. Rebecca has a keen sense of experience in the book publishing field. She knows the process of printers and publishers and I could have saved a lot of money if I just would have found her sooner. She is pleasure to work with; supportive, creative, detail-oriented, reliable, hardworking, and a passion to satisfy her clients. I have communicated with Rebecca via phone, Skype, and email, and through the progression/completion of my project, I have come to know her as a steadfast worker with great skills in book cover and interior design work. I have no doubt that she will do outstanding work for anyone that uses her services.

First and foremost, Leah is passionate about what she does, which not only makes her wonderful to work with, but also reflects in the quality of her work. I came to her with multiple requests when I decided to rebrand my website and expand my project to include updated business cards, a printed piece and t-shirt designs. She handled every request professionally and timely, was highly responsive, and engaged with me on a practical level, which I appreciate. She was open to my suggestions and my vision while also offering informed advice on the pieces individually and how they worked together, and I could not be happier with the outcome! I would recommend her for any of your digital or print graphic needs—her style is vibrant and inventive while also remaining versatile, and she has been such a joy to work with. I will definitely be coming back to her with future projects!

Being a professional photographer, I work with many people in the design field. After a decade of working with publishers, magazines, business, graphic design artist, website developers, etc; Denne is in my opinion the best graphic design artist I've ever met and worked with. One of my favorite things is watching her create a logo from scratch. She has a unique background in design that started before the computer was around. Her understanding for they history of typography and her natural talent for layout is a magical combination. You wont find anyone more talented and qualified with decades of industry experience than Denne. If you want your job done right, look no further. From the simplest job to a long term partner, Denne is ready for any project you may have for her.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

What should you look for in a website designer?

A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

Because web designers tend to work as freelancers on a project basis, they must be excellent communicators, willing to manage their own work, and available on your schedule. Some critical skills, such as working collaboratively and responding enthusiastically to feedback, aren’t core to good web design, but make working with a web designer much easier. Finally, look for a web designer who has cross-functional knowledge, such as understanding marketing and conversion rate optimization in addition to web design.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

  • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
  • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
  • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour

What makes a good logo design?

A good logo is an easily identifiable, memorable image that represents your brand. A good logo design aligns with your business model and expresses your company’s core values. A good logo design is simple, appealing, and easy for customers and viewers to quickly process. Some of the key components of a great logo are type, color palette and design. The scale, font and arrangement of the text you select will all make a difference in the feel and representation of your brand. A graphic designer will help you home in on the colors that best represent your identity and help you keep the color palette simple. The design of your logo includes the shapes you select and the way the color and type are arranged together. Investing in the services of a professional to create your logo design is likely a smart investment for any size business. Nationally, the average price range for a logo designer ranges from $170 to $250.

What do you look for in a web design company?

The web design company you choose must be able to interpret your company’s mission and identity and turn it into an appealing website that connects with potential customers. They must help you reach your target audience and meet your business goals. A web design agency should have on staff both talented web designers, with fresh ideas and extensive technical and creative skills, and a marketing team that knows how to drive traffic to your site, encourage visitor engagement, and convert visitors into customers. Web designers should be able to build in search optimization and integrate your site with a content management system and e-commerce tools. Look, too, for a website design company that understands responsive design and can optimize your website for mobile devices and desktop browsers. The right web design company understand current design and website trends, has experience building sites in a variety of industries (not just yours), and has an expansive portfolio of live websites. Finally, don’t simply hire the cheapest bidder — in web design, as in all things, you get what you pay for.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
