I Love this Company! They took the guess work, stress and aggravation out of creating and designing my Logo, website, business card and even traveled over 2 hours to facilitate my Nonprofit Board Strategic Leadership Weekend. I would definitely recommend them to any start up or existing Business as well anyone applying for Grants and 501c3 status.

Susan is an absolute delight to work with. I am a very creative artist and Susan was able to hear my thoughts and put them into words -without getting lost in my ramblings. the work was for a grant and she completed it in only 3 days time. Her work is not only clear but engaging and her skill set is evident-having someone who can articulate creative thoughts is a great value and I look forward to working with her again.

She became and Editor. She edited my book. This was the very first writing that I had ever done for publishing. Without her critique and her sitting with me and explaining the importance of my being myself and making sure that I wrote from the point of what I declared my book would be. She shared with me how important of writing down that people would know you from your writing. She met with me in my office. Never was Mrs. Mansfield in a hurry How Long Did It Take: It took 2 weeks and 3 days. What impressed me most of all was Mrs. Mansfield’s’ ability to pull out of me that what would had been necessary to enhance my book. Secondly a willing to listen to me read my book. My book and me as a new writer was very important to her. It was not just a job but care and concern. Some of the time spent in my office, especially the length of time just speaking to me about becoming a writer. Many times was over and beyond what I believe many other persons would have done. Her critiques and the work that she performed was over and beyond helping a new writer. The question is what could have been better: Exactly mothing!! What went wrong? If anything? Nothing. What could Pauline Mansfield do better in the future? Continue to share her love and concern for the people in which she helps. Please note: My use of the name YaQar YaQar is because I have 1 name which is legally "YaQar"

Charles Justus Garard, Jr. PhD I have known Dr. Garard for approximately 28 years and worked with him as a colleague, teaching at the college level from 1989 until 2003. During my association with Dr. Garard, I have observed his expertise not only in teaching and mentoring but also in his writing skills. He was exceptional at proofreading several of my documents and manuscripts, as well as offering other colleagues writing and literary assistance. In addition to his regular college teaching duties, he taught English as a second language on weekends to students in several minority communities in Atlanta. He traveled to China as a professor in English language, literature, and writing, where he served for seven (7) years. Dr. Garard has demonstrated an outstanding talent with the English language and is an invaluable asset to both writers and editors. Please feel free to contact me if I can offer further insight into Dr. Garard’s gifted abilities. Donald W. Blair 404-375-1435

I could have never gotten my first book out if not for Creative Book Printing at Budget Transfer. So, for any aspiring authors, look no further. This is where you need to go! The staff is very friendly and helpful, and they did my printing job fast and with superior results. Also, the price was fair and reasonable (and worth every penny). As a writer it is important to have a printer you can count on, and with Gail, I know my work is in good hands. I look forward to many more projects together.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

    • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
    • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
    • Expertise in your target area.
    • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

    • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
    • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
