Stephen and Jeff came and picked up a chest that needed repair. They took it, repaired the problem and returned it to my house a week later. They did a great job and were courteous and professional. I would recommend for a furniture repair/refinish project.

The Most Beautiful Piece in My Home Jeff and Steven can truly be trusted to take your vision and make it a reality! I bought a piece on Craigslist, showed them a picture on Pinterest, and 2 months later, I have a beautiful heirloom Chinese Wedding Cabinet in my dining room. I appreciated their enthusiasm for their work - giving me details on the furniture - and their ability to follow thru on their time commitment. I would strongly recommend that you meet with The Cabinet Elves for your next refinishing endeavor!

I am always happy to refer Kevyn Connelly!! I love having her in my home. She is a very talented artist!! She painted my foyer bath with a faux finish and a beautiful bird motif that she did freehand. She's done my entire dining room, and basement bathroom walls. She's refinished furniture and accessories for me including a french mirror. I currently have a list of projects that I am scheduling her to come back and do. She is always very timely. She left my home like she was never there—just more beautiful! I love her! She's become a friend. I can leave her alone in my home with no worries! She made sure I was completely satisfied before payment. You can’t go wrong with hiring Kevyn!

Home Swwet Home did the cabinet work for our kitchen remodel. I can’t recommend these guys enough. We have been working with a lot of contractors these days and Home Sweet Home was defiantly the best of them all, night and day versus our experiences with others They are professional, show up on time, keep a clean workspace and most important of all, do beautiful work. My wife and I would highly recommend them.

In 2013 I purchased a 1920 bungalow in need of rehab and renovation. The work required coordinating specialists in mold remediation, groundwater management, roofing & gutter repairs, attic cleanout and installation of floor & drop down ladder access, removal of insulation & re-insulating, diagnosis and repair of faulty plumbing, chimney repair, cleanout of crawlspace & installing new vapor barrier, & extensive repair & refinishing antique hard wood floors, refitting antique doors to existing door jambs, repair of antique windows, external re-painting, hvac system cleanout & repair, and complete gutting, redesign & refinishing a bathroom with curbless shower. There were many decision points in this extensive project. The entire course, my contractor was easy to communicate with and honest about cost & budgeting. Ric Rodriguez knows the best way to get a job done and when I did not follow his advice I always regretted it later! All the Portico South staff and subcontractors we worked with were terrific - both pleasant and capable with very high quality work. I recommend Portico South without reservation and look forward having them return when I am ready to do further home renovations in the future.

I have had the pleasure of working with Cornell Negru with All Home Improvement. He is a very skilled carpenter and possess many talents. His craftsmanship is excellent! He was able to assist us in providing our client with a beautiful addition to her entertainment unit in the Buckhead-Atlanta area. His work was completed in such a manner that it was very difficult for the client to tell that anything was ever added! She loves it's! He was very timely with getting the addition back as well as even leaving the work area in mint condition afterwards. His attention to detail and the end result was over and beyond my expectations. I highly recommend Cornell & his company and I look forward to his assistance with future projects!

Chad took on a job that nobody else seemed interested in to repair a back wall on my house that was rotted away after years of exposure. His crews worked until the job was done and to our satisfaction replacing worn out siding, door frames and sub-flooring. They were in; they got the job done with minimal disruption to our routines; they were out. We will hire him again when the need arises.

Shabby Little Secrets was amazing! They provided me with great suggestions for my kitchen cabinet makeover and their price was the lowest out of SIX estimates we received. Her samples and detailed description of their refinishing process really put our minds at ease. Choosing Shabby was not a hard choice! Ashley came in and did everything she was supposed to and MORE! She even painted the backs of the doors free of charge since our budget was capped out. Her work was phenomenal and she will be vack later in the year for all of our bathrooms. If you are in need of quality, affordable, beautiful work- pick Shabby Little Secrets and they will take care of you! Thanks so much for all your hard work! Much appreciated.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you refinish kitchen cabinets?

If you’re ready for a new look and feel in your kitchen but don’t want to replace the cabinet layout or your cabinet doors, refinishing your existing kitchen cabinets is a great option. To be a good candidate for cabinet refinishing, your cabinet boxes and doors need to be in good condition. Cabinet refinishing includes taking down your doors, sanding or stripping the surface, preparing the doors with primer as needed, refinishing them with as many coats of stain or paint are necessary, then re-hanging them in their original locations. If you’re not in love with your kitchen cabinet layout, talk to a designer or contractor about creating an alternative. Refinishing simply means adding new shine to the existing setup, so if you’re dying to have a pull-out pantry or maximize wall space by going flush to the ceiling, you may want a different approach. Functional and stylish ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets can be similar in cost to refacing your existing cabinets, so keep the budget-friendly RTA option in mind when making decisions.

    How do you resurface cabinets?

Resurfacing kitchen cabinets means that you retain your original cabinet boxes and existing cabinet layout and simply remove and replace the front layer of your cabinet doors. Cabinet resurfacing can also entail replacing damaged cabinet doors, keeping those that are in good shape, and installing a new surface on all of them. Cabinet resurfacing may also refer to a decision to completely change out cabinet doors because they are damaged or their style is out of date, but keeping the existing cabinet boxes and layout.

If you’re handy and have all the proper tools, cabinet resurfacing can be a DIY project, especially if you’re simply repainting. However, if you’re not comfortable removing and replacing your cabinet doors, doing precision measurements and cutting, or working with sanders and power tools, then this may be a project better left to the pros. You or your handyman or cabinet installation specialist will remove all cabinet door and drawer fronts and all hardware, then prepare the surfaces for a new layer. The pros should also update the veneer or laminate the frames to match. Once the new laminate, veneer or surface has been applied and new hardware installed, your cabinet doors and drawers are hung once more in their original locations. The national average cost for refacing cabinets is $5,000.

    Can you resurface laminate cabinets?

Resurfacing laminate cabinets is an affordable and relatively easy way to give an outdated kitchen a fresh new look. If your existing cabinets are in good shape and you like your current cabinet layout, putting a fresh face on your kitchen could mean simply painting over the current laminate or putting a new laminate surface on the doors and drawers. Cabinet resurfacing may be possible for the capable DIY homeowner, but if you don’t have the proper tools or the know-how, it’s wise to call a handyman or a cabinet installation specialist to ensure you have a professional-looking outcome. To make sure your kitchen is right for cabinet resurfacing (as opposed to completely replacing your cabinets), ask yourself:

    • Do I like the layout of my current cabinets?
    • Are the cabinet boxes structurally sound?
    • Are the floor and framing in good condition to keep cabinets supported over time?
    • Are the cabinets free of water or wood damage?

How much does it cost to refinish kitchen cabinets?

Cabinet refinishing revives dull or dinged-up doors and drawers. The cost of cabinet refinishing will vary based on factors such as the number of linear feet of cabinetry you have, the amount of nicks and scratches that need repair, the level of detail on your cabinets, and more. The pros typically will remove the cabinet doors and then sand or strip them down to create a beautifully smooth new surface. After prepping the surface with primer as needed, the pros may then repaint or stain the doors to give them a new lease on life. Cabinets with intricate detail or extensive surface damage will likely cost more to refinish, as they will take more time and effort. Keep in mind that you should only elect to do cabinet refinishing if the cabinet boxes are structurally sound and you plan to keep your current kitchen layout for a number of years. The investment will be wasted if the cabinet boxes are in disrepair and will need replacement soon, or if you’re planning a remodel in two years. The national average price range for cabinet refinishing is between $1,500 and $6,000.
