The team worked hard through the move and excellent communication. Nothing major was broken besides a few scrapes that go along with moving and transport in a truck. The team lead devoted time and care to packing the truck to ensure nothing would shift and did an excellent job.

Ronnie moved my family and I from Marietta to Lithonia Georgia, about 45 miles. After speaking to him on the phone and agreeing to a price (minus supplies) for the move and arranging a time and date to begin I expected to see Mr. Morris on the morning of the move. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call from him the day before with reminders on last minute things to do. On the day of the move, Mr. Morris and an assistant showed up exactly when scheduled and went forth to complete one of the smoothest moves I've ever had. They arrived with materials, went through each room packing, marking and inventorying as they went. I was amazed at the amount of care given to such obvious items as small porcelain to equally important items as my daughters stuffed animal. After packing the house and going over the inventory with us, they moved the stuff to our new home and (for an extra fee, which we took advantage of) they unpacked the stuff we wanted, and moved in all of the furniture to each (and we tried a few different) place we wanted it. My wife and I found them to be professional, courteous, and fully honest to their word - giving us a truly impressive and reasonably easy move!

We had a great experience with Jasean and his team. We had to move the entire contents of my condo, which contained a lot of delicate glass furniture and a pair of really heavy wardrobes. They made it happen even with the obstacle course of the narrow hallways and tiny elevators in my condo unit. Great services provided.

Working with the Bellops was a great experience. They had some creative ways of packing and moving but overall everything survived the move (I had a lot of glass and breakable items).

I had an AMAZING experience with Tate the Great Moving services. I used them for packing and moving. I provided all of my packing materials and hired the staff for packing. They packed my materials with care and labeled all boxes appropriately. I then used them for moving from Acworth, GA to Atlanta, GA. The guys handled all of my items with great care and treated them like they were their own. They packed the truck very meticulously and ensured all of my items were safe during transport. Before this move, I moved from North Carolina to Acworth, GA. The movers I used then damaged a lot of my items. Not only did Tate's crew take extra special care of my damaged items, they also made recommendations for how I could have them repaired and in some cases they made the small repairs for me. Dexter, Will, and Shaheed were GOD sent!! I could not have asked for a better crew and I told Tate that I want the same three guys the next time I move. You will not be disappointed with this moving crew. They have an excellent spirit, and excellent leader, and they truly do LOVE what they do!! Two thumbs WAY up!!!

This was not a typical move so there was a bit of a communication snafu with the office. But the manager worked to clear up the issue and deliver the desired services. The guys that were onsite were hard-working, friendly and overall excellent. Will definitely use again if the need arises.

I was skeptical with letting strangers handle my belongings, but i had a last minute emergency move back to Virginia and my Mother told me about these Guys so i crossed my fingers, said a prayer, made arrangements and rented a truck for the job (three bedroom house) to which i estimated to be a 6 hour move (Garage was a disaster).they was in and out just under five hours...i never looked inside the truck and was cringing the whole ride to Virginia imagining my belongings being unstable and in terrible shape.when i arrived to my destination to my surprise my items had been in very good condition, this was a great experience...thank you!

We have moved several times and a few times across country. Our experience with Great Nation Moving was by far the easiest and hassle free experience that we have had with moving. They sent over an appraiser who was able to give us a quote after walking through our house and seeing what we owned and were moving. He was within $50 of our ending price, so it extremely accurate. The pricing was in-line with several other companies that we had quote out the job. Rose, their sales/account manager, was great. We explained that we needed to move from within a specific time frame, and they were able to accommodate to our schedule. We were driving to our new home as soon as the movers were done packing everything up, and they even accommodated a faster pack up by adding an additional member to the crew packing up our belongings. They delivered our items in less than a week, which was much faster than our past experiences. Rose kept me posted on the progress of everything throughout the process and seemed to be working 24 hrs a day to make sure we were comfortable and in the know of what was going on. She even called within 30 minutes of the delivery of our items to see how everything went. We did have some slight damage on one item, which we were not bothered with as the item was beat up from a previous move. Without us filing a complaint, Rose was able to get us a check to cover the damages. Overall it was some of the best customer service I have experienced. Its always a headache and there is always the hidden issues that pop up along the way, however, I felt Rose kept us in the know and ahead of the curve with the move. That goes a long way when you have literally everything you own in their hands.

My request was very last minute but they were able to schedule something for me just 24 hours before my move. They disassembled and reassembled everything for me at the new place...even helped arrange the furniture. Pack up was very quick and unpacking was even quicker! Great company. Good luck with your business.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
