Andre is extremely knowledgeable and detail-oriented. He was very flexible during the entire process. My fence plans changed from the original plan and he came back out no charge to adjust the quote. He is careful to dig only where it is safe to do so according to 811Dig. Some contractors will just throw up a fence regardless of knowing where power and communication lines are buried (My builder's contractor did this). He created an order for materials so that there was no markup. I was even able to get some of the materials cheaper since they had gone on sale. Andre had two additional workers on site the day of the job. They were all polite and patient even when dealing with one of my aggressive neighbors. The team removed my old fencing in a matter of 30 minutes! About 6 hours later, I had a brand new better quality nicer looking 6ft privacy fence along my property line and much larger yard. I would definitely recommend his services to others looking for fence installation or repair.

Davila Landscaping was beyond our expectations for our Landscaping project at our new home. We needed a new privacy fence in the backyard and needed to totally landscape one side and back yard because of major drainage issues and tree roots that had overrun the yard and had begun to creep onto the walkways. Not only did they install a beautiful fence, they designed an amazing solution for our yard, and they did it professionally, economically, and on time. We have subsequently hired them to maintain our yard, and will have them landscape the rest of our yard in the near future.

Gladiator was very easy to work with, from start to finish. We had a complicated set of circumstances, and a short time-frame, and they were very helpful. Once installation began, the fence was up and ready very quickly.

I just had my second landscaping project completed by Genesis. The first project was in December 2015 and involved removing underbrush and small trees around the perimeter of my yard for installation of a privacy fence. I was so satisfied with their work I hired them to come back to clear out the rest of the underbrush in my backyard and to cut some tree limbs that had grown over into my neighbor’s yard. I also had them install sod and remove shrubs in the front yard and plant a couple of vines next to an arbor. It was a lot of work since I have a big yard and they completed the project in 2 days. They did an excellent job of cleaning up afterwards and the chief landscaper, Marcos, was awesome. Before starting work on the project he did a walkthrough with me to make sure he knew exactly how I wanted things to look. We did another walkthrough afterwards and I could not have been happier with their work. I can actually walk around my backyard now without tripping over underbrush and I appreciated how his crew did not damage or remove any of the vegetation I liked and wanted left alone. The only word of caution when it comes to hiring a small landscaping company is that it’s important to allow for some flexibility when it comes to scheduling. My project was delayed because of bad weather which led to them falling behind schedule with a couple of their other clients. That did not bother me because I was not in a rush to get the job done, but not everyone is as flexible as I am. The important thing for me was that the job got done right the first time and Genesis did just that. We are already discussing our next landscaping project and I will definitely be using their services again. Thanks for the great job!

Mr. Baynes has been a contractor for me for numerous projects in my home. The scope and nature of the project work included entire interior and exterior painting of a 6800 sq. ft. home, deck restoration and painting, siding replacement, new construction of sunroom, power washing of house exterior and driveways, new appliance installations, wall and ceiling replacement after major water damage, carpet installation, tile refinishing in the bath area, painting of exterior rod iron fence and gates and widow re-sealing and re-glazing. While home improvement projects are inherently stressful for almost any homeowner, Mr. Baynes’s services as a contractor were invaluable, and I have been extremely pleased with the final result. Specifically, I would give Mr. Baynes top marks in the following areas: 1. Quality of work performed. The quality of work done was consistently. Mr. Baynes was knowledgeable, skilled, and competent in his respective trades. He was conscientious about all of the project specifications, and his work product rarely needed improvement or revision. 2. Quality of work. Mr. Baynes was professional, reliable, courteous, and respectful of my property and privacy. He had an old school work ethic (often 10-hour days, some Saturdays), good work habits, strong safety orientation, and emphasized getting the job done right rather than doing it fast. His pride in his work was evident. He tidied up at the end of each workday. I also found him to be trustworthy, and felt comfortable with allowing him access inside my home. 3. Project management and coordination. Mr. Baynes’s prior experience working in construction really paid off. He was knowledgeable about all aspects of my projects, and was able to plan, coordinate and manage the activities, effectively. 4. Integrity and professionalism. Throughout the projects, I was impressed with Mr. Baynes’s commitment to generating a top quality product, rather than maximizing his profit margin. 5. Effective communication. Mr. Baynes kept me closely informed of work schedules, delivery dates, and projected completion dates of different phases of the projects. His communication was always clear, informative, and helpful. 6. Flexibility and effectiveness in dealing with unexpected developments. When unforeseen problems surfaced (e.g., water damage behind a wall; he worked diligently with me to identify solutions that was acceptable to me. 7. Responsiveness to my needs and concerns. Mr. Baynes’s commitment to my satisfaction was evident in his actions. 8. Truth in advertising. In his proposal, Mr. Baynes gave a clear breakdown of costs for each facet of the projects. His contract was just as detailed in describing the work to be done and the itemized costs. When the project was completed, all the work was done as described and agreed upon, and there were no hidden costs, extra expenses or unpleasant surprises. As a homeowner and customer, I felt Ms. Baynes delivered exactly what he had promised, at the agreed upon price.

Great job! They did take a little while to get things scheduled once we had paid the down payment, but our fence is beautiful and we love it! We sent them a picture we found on Pinterest and they made it to our specifications. Luis was the guy who actually built the fence and he was very sure to make sure we were aligned on all major decisions. We have a huge rock in our back yard and they had no problems installing the fence into the rock. They worked fast, once they started, and the fence is perfect! We are very satisfied.

Great work on new fence! Impressed with the quality of the craftsmanship. Extremely responsive, even with communications outside of normal work hours. Clear design intent and quote. Did not creep scope or increase price at the end of the project. Started and completed work at the times committed to. Fair and competitive pricing. Took good care of my property while on the job. Friendly and courteous with my family throughout the project. I would definitely recommend M&M Complete to friends and neighbors. I hope to use M&M on a future bathroom shower project, which they have already quoted for me.

Marco was great to work with. Had some excellent ideas on how to improve my landscape appearance which included installing stone retaining walls, sod installation and leveling out my front yard. He came out to review everything and made sure I was completely satisfied throughout the process. Having him come back to do more landscaping work for me.

While building a gate for a fence he used a dull skill saw blade leaving ragged edges on the fence. He should have replaced his blade. He also left a 4x4 post much higher than the rest of the fence 4x4s as he did not have his chainsaw with him to cut it. He said he would return to fix both items, but never did. I paid him (too much) in good faith even though the job was not completed as expected.

These guys were really great. After i tried doing the fence installation myself and realizing that was a huge mistake, I reached out to these guys and they came the next day and knocked the fence out like it was nothing. And it looks really awesome. It has already been getting tons of compliments from everyone walking and driving by.

I bought a new home that needed a full landscape makeover. From turf installation, fence repair/construction, retaining walls, resloping, irrigation system installation, etc... Dakota and his team did it all. We had several hiccups along the way between disgruntled neighbors and payment options being blocked, but Dakota took is in stride and delivered a quality product. We still have a lot of work to do, and I hope to continue hiring Dakota's team for ongoing maintenance. I highly recommend these guys!

We experienced top notch work when these gentlemen replaced a lot of rotted fence posts for us. They removed the old ones, set new ones in concrete, and put the fencing back on the posts in a matter of hours. Wish the guy who originally installed the fence did such quality work! Well call them again for other jobs.

2hires owner Kieth is very polite, responsive and understanding. His goal is to make sure the job is done right and to the customers satisfaction. I did have some installation issue with getting my single door to a double door installed. The Workman ship was rushed and the initial install was done poorly. With that said Keith assured me he will make it right. This caused a significant delay in completion. Keith sent a new set of installers to correct the installation, as well as the staining. This process was a pleasure the installers took their time and resolved the issues. I also hand the staining done by Greg’s Pro Painting who was sent by Keith. Keith and his crew did a great job with staining the mahogany doors. To the point where I hired him to repaint my garage door. At the end of it all the doors are installed and I am satisfied.

I needed to replace an old wood fence before putting our house on the market. Barry came out and met with me to understand exactly what we wanted. He was patient, professional and not pushy at all. His install crew showed up on time and kept the job site clean at the end of the day. They did exactly what they committed to do and at the price that was quoted. The fence looks fantastic and I'm sure it helped sell the home. Very pleased.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
    • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
    • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
    • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

    • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
    • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
    • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
    • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
    • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
    • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
    • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
    • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
