We had a major water leak that has effected several rooms. Not knowing a reputable plumber, I took a chance with Thumbtack. I was impressed from the very beginning when I received the text back within 10 minutes. Mr. Jenkins was prompt & courteous. He gave us the background of his family owned & operated company. He explained the problem & the repair process with ease. He promised to get us a quote within 24hrs & he fulfilled his promise. It was refreshing to feel like we were being understood, the work would be done professionally & the cost would be as minimal as possible. He said that they like to treat clients as if they were his family he was making repairs for. We would recommend Padgett Plumbing to anyone. We can't wait for the project to be completed. Thank you Thumbtack.

I completed remodeling my house two years ago. Unfortunately, I recently experienced plumbing problems which arose from that project. I had water backing up in my sink and dishwasher that was unable to drain. In addition, I was also unable to wash clothes since water draining from the washer would also back up into the sink and nearly overflow onto the floor. Like many construction related companies in this economy, the contractor and plumber who completed the work have since went out of business. I know very little about plumbing and fluid dynamics which make our daily lives so uneventful every time we take a shower, wash clothes or flush the toilet. Fortunately for me, I had the number of Turner Plumbing Service. Mr. Turner was extremely professional on the phone, arrived at the exact time agreed upon from our earlier conversation (which rarely happened while I was remodeling my house) and quickly diagnosed the problem after entering the crawl space and inspecting the plumbing work which had failed to drain adequately. Although very perplexed by the work he inspected, which was inadequate at best, he stated he could fix the problem immediately since I was unable to run any water in my kitchen or wash clothes. Mr. Turner explained in detail the work he completed, potential problems that might arise and reassured me he would return to fix any future problems. I am happy to report the plumbing is working perfectly. I would give my highest recommendation to Turner Plumbing Service for any future plumbing needs whether it is new construction, a remodel or a routine service call. Chad S. - Savannah, GA

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

        • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
        • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
        • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
