Mr. Hines did a great job. In addition to the installation of the dishwasher, he transported it from the big box retail store where I bought it, and hauled off the old appliance. He had to do a little modification to the flooring in order to get the old dishwasher out and the new one in, but was able to accomplish that so the modifications were barely noticeable.

Mr. Al Lopez is an excellent plumber/handyman who is prompt, courteous, professional, and does a great job. Unfortunately, my kitchen faucet was beyond repair, and I wasn't completely surprised as I had attempted repairs myself. However, Mr. Lopez came along with me to purchase a new faucet at Home Depot, and came back with me and removed my old faucet and installed the new faucet in a short period of time during the same visit. After spending almost 2 hours with me, he only charged me a fair nominal charge in addition to his original quote. Mr. Lopez's total charge for ALL of his work (and time!) was still LOWER than other quotes that I received for just faucet repair alone! To say that Al Lopez is a professional who will NOT overcharge you for work is an understatement! Honesty, fairness, and professionalism is not always an easy thing to find these days. I will definitely use Mr. Lopez again, and I highly recommend him and Nationwide Interiors to everyone. Thank you, Mr. Lopez, and thanks to this Thumbtack website as well!! -RA (Atlanta)

My children now have their dream playroom, with hidden crawl space, thanks to Todd and Residential Drywall Inc. When my wife and I purchased our home, we were in need of a play area for our two kids. The unfinished basement was the ideal area. With our newest addition arriving soon we weren't such a job could be finished in time. Staying late nights, that were needed, Todd and his crew came on time everyday and completed the whole room within our 3 week window. Framing, electrical, drywall, trim and paint. He even hung my ceiling fan/light that I purchased myself from Home Depot! I strongly recommend these guys and will be using them for any future projects I might have.

Phil was very responsive in regards to answering questions before completing my project, in addition to letting me know he was running behind. He got the job done in a good amount of time and informed me of any other bumps in the road along the way. He was kind to look at another problem we had while out to replace our hot water heater. I didn’t get a receipt immediately, but after following up later I received it. Phil is very kind and will get the job done for a fair price.

We hired Willie after being scammed by another contractor who pretended like he was going to do the work, took a deposit of half of the project cost (over $3000) and then ran off with our money! That was a hard pill to swallow and it made it difficult to trust contractors. Then came Willie. Willie had the cards stacked against him, because we were very particular with what we wanted and very cautious and guarded, due to the previous situation. Willie handled this professionally and graciously. He understood the circumstances, listened to what we wanted, honored all of our wishes and delivered a wonderful room addition. This was a major project that took over 7 weeks to complete and Willie showed up faithfully ready to work. Whenever we had any issues with how something turned out, Willie was right there in agreeance eager to fix it. Be sure to be very clear up front on what you are expecting out of the project and gain agreement on your expectations. Willie is a perfectionist and gives care to each project he does. He's also just a kind hearted, nice man to be around. I'm going to miss the sound of his tools and gospel music out on my patio, but I'm sure I'll find other work to keep Willie busy around here. Before and after pictures posted. Room still needs to be cleaned.

I hired Rush to replace the post on the front of my home and replace the boots on the roof. His crew was also hired to remove several trees . Hired him on Oct 26th and the entire job was finished today Nov.6th. He did a fantastic job, considering it has been raining for the past two weeks. I will highly recommend the Perry brothers for any of their needs. They were polite and very respectful of my property and my time. I will definitely use these men for any of my future projects. There pricing fit well into my budget. They will go that extra mile for whatever you may need...WAY TO GO RUSH, JOHN AND CREW!!!!!!!

Scott responded to our request almost immediately. He stopped by the house and met with my husband to review the service we requested (lawn maintenance and fertilization). He was very knowledgeable. We are scheduled every other Friday. So far he has done an excellent job. He is very efficient and gets the job done. Since this is a newly sodded lawn, I will update as the season goes on.

SnJ has pressure washed my front door steps, drive way, and deck. The deck was re-painted. Sean came to my house the first day and planned everything. I wasn't at there during the whole project. Sean informed me through text messages and photos. I had been made aware of each and every step going on at home even I was at work. Great job and service! I definitely recommend SnJ to anyone. If you're a busy person, contact Sean. Your job will be done as the way you want!

Shane and his assistant repaired by deck to the specifications that we wanted. All the repair work was completed in one day and a few weeks later he completed the job by spraying my deck with clear waterproof. Overall, I'm happy with the work he and his assistant did.

Tom Skilling aims to please. He has great suggestions and does quality work. He’s easy to have around and very respectful. Tom has done over 8000 sq ft of tile work for me at two child care centers I own. His tile cuts are precise and the overall finish work is professional. I’ve also had him do deck work and painting. Once again his work on refurbishing the deck was outstanding. He goes after a job until it’s vcomplete and the customer is satisfied. He pricing is very fair too. He will continue to be my go to guy for projects and repair. I highly recommend him to anybody who want a knd, clean and hard worker. You won’t be disappointed!!!

Mr. Baynes has been a contractor for me for numerous projects in my home. The scope and nature of the project work included entire interior and exterior painting of a 6800 sq. ft. home, deck restoration and painting, siding replacement, new construction of sunroom, power washing of house exterior and driveways, new appliance installations, wall and ceiling replacement after major water damage, carpet installation, tile refinishing in the bath area, painting of exterior rod iron fence and gates and widow re-sealing and re-glazing. While home improvement projects are inherently stressful for almost any homeowner, Mr. Baynes’s services as a contractor were invaluable, and I have been extremely pleased with the final result. Specifically, I would give Mr. Baynes top marks in the following areas: 1. Quality of work performed. The quality of work done was consistently. Mr. Baynes was knowledgeable, skilled, and competent in his respective trades. He was conscientious about all of the project specifications, and his work product rarely needed improvement or revision. 2. Quality of work. Mr. Baynes was professional, reliable, courteous, and respectful of my property and privacy. He had an old school work ethic (often 10-hour days, some Saturdays), good work habits, strong safety orientation, and emphasized getting the job done right rather than doing it fast. His pride in his work was evident. He tidied up at the end of each workday. I also found him to be trustworthy, and felt comfortable with allowing him access inside my home. 3. Project management and coordination. Mr. Baynes’s prior experience working in construction really paid off. He was knowledgeable about all aspects of my projects, and was able to plan, coordinate and manage the activities, effectively. 4. Integrity and professionalism. Throughout the projects, I was impressed with Mr. Baynes’s commitment to generating a top quality product, rather than maximizing his profit margin. 5. Effective communication. Mr. Baynes kept me closely informed of work schedules, delivery dates, and projected completion dates of different phases of the projects. His communication was always clear, informative, and helpful. 6. Flexibility and effectiveness in dealing with unexpected developments. When unforeseen problems surfaced (e.g., water damage behind a wall; he worked diligently with me to identify solutions that was acceptable to me. 7. Responsiveness to my needs and concerns. Mr. Baynes’s commitment to my satisfaction was evident in his actions. 8. Truth in advertising. In his proposal, Mr. Baynes gave a clear breakdown of costs for each facet of the projects. His contract was just as detailed in describing the work to be done and the itemized costs. When the project was completed, all the work was done as described and agreed upon, and there were no hidden costs, extra expenses or unpleasant surprises. As a homeowner and customer, I felt Ms. Baynes delivered exactly what he had promised, at the agreed upon price.

Lamar gets a 4 out of 5. He gave me an immediate estimate and started work the next day. Front 8x8 entry deck and a 3 x 4 stair off the garage. Lamar knows his flashing. That separates the pro's from the hobby men. He laid the boards flush - I know some guys use a penny nail for separation - we never talked about that and he didn't router. 98% of the boards didn't require router but it's a nice touch. The flashing was still a big deal... It makes all the difference. And Lamar was affordable versus the work he did. I think I got him a little on the back stairs - but overall it was pro work for a resale house. Yes I would recommend Lamar and I will hire him again if needed.

Hired Eric to remodel my laundry room as a which was changed from an open space at the end of a hallway to a small enclosed room. Eric was very professional throughout the project and his suggestions of adding an ironing board that recessed into the wall worked out perfect. He installed new cabinets, new laundry sink and new tile and hung a barn door to enclose the area. He also installed a motion sensing light switch so I wouldn’t have to fumble around for a light switch while I’m carrying laundry. His attention to detail is outstanding and I definetly plan on hiring him for future projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
