My babies had a fantastic time with Tel's Tails Pet sitting! She was great from beginning to end. The meet and greet was at my home and she knew how to handle my Chihuahuas. They warmed up to her pretty quick! She sent daily pics and videos and kept .e posted about their day. She is awesome and I highly recommend her.

I’ve never corresponded with someone as friendly, responsive, and positive as Mark Shaver, the owner of Buckhead Paws. He quickly quoted me a fair price for pet sitting our cats within moments of me placing a project on Thumbtack, and quickly answered all my questions in a way that made it enjoyable to communicate with him. He walked me through the process of scheduling the pet sitting appointment and was patient with my questions. We set up a meeting and Mark showed up with our actual pet sitter to be, Kim. It was nice having the owner of a company take the time to come over to meet our kitties also. Both were really nice, and asked thoughtful questions as we showed them where everything was. It made us feel we were in good hands. While we were away Kim gave us daily photos and updates of our kitties, many of them funny, which were very much appreciated. They were often the bright spot of our day. Kim picked up packages as needed and even cleared our deck for window washers. We knew he was only a text away if we needed anything. But the true test was seeing how the kitties were when we returned. They were calm and cheerful, the house clean, even the trash emptied. We are really pleased with this service and will definitely use Buckhead Paws again.

Gigi is a life saver! It works best for my dog Bella if she can get in-home pet sitting, and Gigi offers just that. She takes great care of Bella any time my husband I need to be out of town. Bella loves her and so do we! KB

Sarah is wonderful! I was nervous to find a pet sitter because I was always lucky enough to have family in town to take care of my cat Kate. But that wasn't the case anymore and luckily I found Sarah! She was exactly on time for our first meeting to get to know her. I went over everything and she took notes and asked questions. After each visit she let me know how Kate was doing and sent me some pictures. She went out of her way when I needed her and I would recommend her to anyone looking for a pet sitter. I have just relocated to a new state and will miss having Sarah to watch my sweet Kate!

We adopted a Maltipoo with fear aggression and he was difficult to control. Jay worked with him and it is like we have a new dog who is such a pleasure now. Jay had previously worked with our Cavalier and was great with her too. Even just one session made a huge improvement. It is nice for him to come to our home and actually see the pet's environment. He is very professional and personable. I highly recommend Jay's service.

Elizabeth pet-sat our dog Jacey over the past 5 years or so. These would be over periods of 3-7 days where she would come by the house twice a day, walk him, feed him and keep him company. Jacey always was super-happy to see her again when she stopped by, and he is a bit picky. Elizabeth has always been easy to deal with and very reasonable.

Kimberly is awesome!! Honestly, I don't know what our family would do without her. We travel quite a bit and she always keeps our dog ... even though he's been naughty a few times. I know when Scruffy is with Kimberly I don't have to worry about his health or safety. I also know he's as happy as can be and isn't trapped in a crate at the vet or home alone getting into trouble. I trust her 100%. I'm able to enjoy my time away without worry or fear. Thanks Kimberly! You are the BEST!

I was looking for a sitter I could trust because I'd had a few bad experiences in the past with "hobby sitters," and Laura with Barkolounge Pet Sitting fit the bill perfectly. She was personable and professional during our initial meeting and put my mind right at ease. I was happy to learn that she had many years of pet sitting and vet tech experience and was comfortable with my grumpy cat who requires a pill and an injection. I was able to get away for a much-needed vacation and completely relax knowing Laura had things covered at home. When I returned, it was as if I'd never left (but in a good way!). Thank you, Laura! If you're considering hiring Barkolounge Pet Sitting services, please know that you can do so with full confidence that the job will be well done.

I found Danny to be very responsive and responsible during the several weekends that he fed my cat for me. I would recommend that if you have such a pet sitting need that you talk to him about how he might help you. Thanks, Danny!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.

I need someone to let my dog out of the kennel to use the restroom outside and to play with her for a little while before putting her back in. She is 3 months old and not great at walking on a leash, but if you would like to walk her during the "play time" that is ok. She is learning. She is still too small to hold her bladder while I am at work during the day. I would need someone to stop by from 10:00-10:30 and preferably again at 1:30-2:00 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
