Mina and her crew did a great job of cleaning. They were thorough and cleaned everything we asked. She also went the extra mile and cleaned some cabinets and shelves we had not anticipated being cleaned. She charged the same amount she quoted. We would hire her again.

From the very beginning, MTD (Mike) was a great experience. I wanted an outdoor cat kennel which attached to a window. All I had was a basic design and Mike ran with it. The project turned out fantastic and I couldn't be more pleased. Cost was very reasonable, there wasn't any lost time, in fact the project only took about a week. Now that I've found MTD, I won't be using anyone else for my projects. 5 Stars isn't enough to give MTD Enterprises. Thanks Mike for a job well done!

10 stars! Kurt was absolutely awesome- professional, timely, and bent over backwards to meet the timeline that I needed. I was 9 months pregnant and just needed to get some final projects FINISHED so we could focus on the new baby. Kurt's projects including: - hanging curtains (meticulously measuring and making sure they were the perfect "puddle") - replacing a bathroom exhaust fan (he even picked it up for me) - hanging floating shelves (and repaired the mutilation to the wall from our attempts) - finished trim work in the recently renovated bathroom (with the most intense eye for detail I have ever had from a contractor). He preferred to do a quote for me by the project instead of hourly and despite it taking him longer than he had anticipated to make everything perfect--- he was extremely affordable and fair. I am now using him for all of my design clients! As a side note, he is also a truly wonderful human being! He is very friendly and thoughtful and really just loves being able to help people. HIRE HIM... NOW!

Our house was built in 1980. Not brand spanking new, but a little older. We try to take good care of it. Each year, we spend a little on it to keep it looking nice since it is an investment. We also ways do research, and learn about the products we put in or on our home. The past June, much of the improvements we did over the years was destroyed by the sudden storms that passed thru the area. We were devastated. I actually cried when I saw all of the hard work we had done over the years gone to waste. After the clean up, we really didn't know where to start. Done By Nolte was one of the few companies that spent the time to really learn about our goals and what we wanted to recreate. They took the time to education us on benefits and value of the replacement products, service warranties and helped us to avoid making a mistakes in our remodeling. They really did bring the solution. We are happy with their work. Their work was outstanding, and our home once again look beautiful even a little better than before. We highly recommend them. Even though we do not want another storm to hit our home; we will gladly use them again for future "non-storm" projects.

I was looking for a company to replace the windows in my home. I have absolutely no experience in this and needed someone knowledgable and trustworthy, and who would help me find the best for my strict budget. Kevin with Universal took more time than I even expected to make sure that I got the best windows for my money. He was very patient, explaining each product I considered and helped me understand the choices I made. My windows were installed in a timely fashion and the work was done very quickly. My house looks amazing and our heating and air bills have gone down considerably! I'll definitely call him for my next exterior project!

We loved working with Duane Rowe. Very personable and knows his windows. He was always available for our calls and questions, and very quick to come out and take window measurements. The installation crew was first rate. They arrived early and were very thorough and precise in taking out the old windows and installing the new ones. They also did a great job on cleaning up when they were done. We're very impressed with this company and will be a returning customer.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

      • Trim repair:
        • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
        • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
      • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
      • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
        • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
        • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
          • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
