We recently purchased a mobile home for my daughter to live in while she attends The Vet program at ISU. I had scheduled two weeks to help her get it cleaned up and painted before she moved in. While cleaning and painting we uncovered water and insect damage around virtually all of the windows that was missed when considering the purchase. Jumped on Thumbtack and within an hour the folks at Top-Flight called and arranged to come by and look at our project. They gave us a quote and agreed to be on site the next day. Well this turned into a much more involved project as we started demolition and they just rolled up their sleves and tackled each issue as they arose. They also honored their original estimate for the work. Their manager, Terry, and his wife worked tirelessly to get this project done and also started work on additional windows. They were very flexible, tolerant of my incursions into what and how things were being done and were able to complete the original project plus start and complete additional windows while I was there. They are good people who work very hard and for us they demonstrated great flexibility with there schedules. I’d recommend them unconditionally for any work like we had done and from spending so much time together I learned they are accomplished in all aspects of building to include demolition, framing, siding, interior walls, electrical, plumbing and many other handyman services. I have done a lot of this type of work in my 60 plus years I can say that you can do much worse, but you won’t find many better than these folks. We are really happy with our choice of Top-Flight for our mobile home repair project.

Stu's team painted my bedroom and bathroom. Stu is EXTREMELY patient and personable! I couldn't make up my mind about the color of my accent wall and he did not get frustrated with me and offered some great suggestions. Throughout the entire process he ensured that I was satisfied with every aspect of the job. The painter was great also. He was neat, quick and the quality of the job was amazing. I couldn't be more pleased. If you want affordable, quality, service, choose Restore 24/7!

Living room, dining room, kitchen & hall...ceilings, walls, cabinets, door. Double coats covering old, tobacco stained plaster walls. Professional, quick to respond, and completed in a timely manner. I've given his name to several people based on my experience and would definitely ask him to come back for other painting jobs.

So far, so good! If the house sells in the next 2 months I'll add another star! The staging adds so much and we are confident that it--along with the painting done by Staging 2 Sell It--will go a long way to get the house sold. Debra the owner at Staging 2 Sell It is easy to work with and knows her business.

We've lived in the same house for 30 yrs and done many repairs, updates, and remodels in that time. This was the best experience we've ever had. Had a list of little projects that Kevin helped us take care of. A lot of guys won't bother with that sort of thing. The work was great and he did some creative problem solving. Enjoyed working with him and will call again for our next project.

I could not be more pleased with the garden clean up and mulching that Brightlite Construction did for me today. Richard was responsive to my requests and added fresh ideas himself. We started the process a week ago and it was finished today. I would highly recommend his business.

A very good piece of work. My deck, containing hot tub (no longer used), was in dire need of replacing. I thought and hoped ‘wood rot’, but had niggling thought of termites. Was termites and they were also in house structure. Love my new smaller deck, thrilled with innovative railing. Lots of structural damage repaired. Am keeping his contact info for any future house needs.

I found out that Darren worked on computers from a friend. He set up a HP Lap top computer for me. When I had trouble with my internet he came to my house and solved the problem. I was very pleased with his work and effort. If you have internet or computer work, you should consider Darren to help you. While he was working on my computer and internet, I discovered that he did electric work. With a new storage shed for my outside tools, I need to have electric hooked to the shed. I asked Darren Mann to run wire, new breaker and power to my storage shed. He did excellent work on the wiring, outlets and lights in the shed. I was very pleased with his work and his fee was very reasonable. I would highly recommend Darren to do work for you.

Stough Builders does excellent work in a timely manner. Zac can make any request for a remodel — flooring, accent walls, paint — a reality, and he does a great job with all of it! I’ve included before and afters of our bedroom remodel, which turned out better than I ever could’ve asked!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

    • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
    • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
    • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
    • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225

    How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.
