Wonderful work with our basement drywall. Drywall, tape and texture looks amazing. Other places quoted us saying it would take a week to complete, Restore 24/7 completed in 2-3 days. The price was exceptional! I would give more than 5 stars if I could!

Adam Swets installed new flooring in our house a couple years ago. He put carpet in two bedrooms and in our living room, He installed hardwood flooring in the kitchen and hallways. He did an excellent job. He is very particular on how things get done and he did it in a timely manner. I would highly recommend him for any type of job you may need done. You won't be disappointed

We had Beebes do floor refinishing projects in three separate residences and were very pleased with the quality of their work. They did the work when they said they would and finished it to our satisfaction. We would definitely have them again.

Steve and his team painted the entire first floor of our house - kitchen cabinets, walls and trim. It was a huge job and it took a bit longer than anticipated, but Steve was dedicated and a hard worker. He cared about making us happy. Steve was very reasonably priced and we are satisfied with the finished job.

They did a major repair and reconstruction work in the kitchen I work in. There were a variety of problems and they addressed each problem very competently. They were prompt, cleaned up as they worked and kept us informed of their progress. They replaced and repaired plumbing, added insulation in the wall and fabricated several cabinets, replaced the counter tops and floor tiles. I would gladly recommend their services.

My experience with Bob and Rusty was very good. I gave them the contract to repair siding and paint my house, rebuild the deck, and install Vinyl flooring in my laundry room and basement stairs. Bob and Rusty told me that instead of rebuilding the deck, they could use the existing frame, and extend it like I had wanted and they only had to rebuild the railing, steps and put the new deck floor. I saved at least $1500 doing it this way. Rusty even built me planters out of a $10 gutter, painted it and fixed it to the railing on the new deck...for free. The Handymen are very ethical in how they conduct their business. The project took longer than expected on account of a few rain days. While I felt that they could have worked a few extra hours to compensate for the rain outs, the end result is a completely "refreshed" house with upgrades. My neighbors kept telling me how much they liked the new paint job, the deck and the extra "features" (Planters). I will be hiring the Handymen back for other jobs in the future. They are quite personable and care about the quality of their work. Repeat business is very important to them, and I intend to give them just that. All in all a solid 5/5 rating!

Mr. Brooks installed some tile I had in my kitchen as a back splash and it turned out beautifully. He also updated my outlet in that wall so that it has some new power surge protection function. He was on time and professional. He was good about cleaning up his mess when finished. He was quiet as he could be when cutting tile and kept the noise factor to a minimum.

JC Home Solutions came out and bid a job for kitchen/main floor trim and shoe work. We received three bids, and although JC was the highest, they didn't cut corners and did the job right. It looks great and we are happy we chose them for their quality work. Jake was easy to work with and very helpful and Nate the man on the job did a fantastic job, and came back to go over some final details with us. Would definitely recommend this company. Thank you, Mark & Holly

Jay and his guys provided refinishing of our hardwood floors and trim work for our house we recently purchased. The floor is red oak and they sanded it down to its natural state and finished it with 3 coats of poly. The results were beautiful and we received many awesome comments regarding the floors thus far. I would recommend J&S to anyone. I would also encourage anyone who uses J&S to talk with them thoroughly regarding your project before you start. There were some points during the project where both contractor and client were on a different page however these issues were rectified. Bottomline: great work, customer service-oriented, friendly and fairly priced.

I used A Plus Flooring to replace the carpet in my home and also the tile in my bathrooms and laundry room in December of 2015. I don't usually post reviews, but my experience was so great and simple that I felt it was needed this time. First, the salesperson came out to my house and took measurements and went over the differences in pricing and what they would amount to depending on what price range I wanted to be in, which helped me understand the overall cost much more than I would have originally since it includes things I never thought of. I went into their warehouse and found so many different options and they were very helpful to narrow down the choices to what fit me and my family best. The installment was very easy and he worked to fit around my schedule to make things easiest for me. I would highly recommend A Plus Flooring to anyone looking for a professional and easy to deal with company!

Hernandez Ramirez Properties did a kitchen renovation for me consisting of new tile floors, a new finish on my existing cabinets, paint on my walls and baseboards, installation of new crown molding, and a tile back-splash. The owner, Adrian, did an awesome job! He has great attention to detail, and is friendly. I also hired him to complete a basement project including a bedroom and bathroom, which turned out just as good as the kitchen. I will definitely hire him again for my next project!

Custom Creations installed a heated floating concrete floor that imitated real marble . Not only could I not tell the difference between what we originally picked out but they saved us $3000 for the original marble that we had picked.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
