For the past 6 months I have been training twice a week with Bryan from Gym on The Run. Never in my life have I enjoyed working out or going to the gym but Bryan has changed that for me. We do not train in a typical gym, time passes quickly and every session is different from the last. What I love about Bryan's training is that he's very knowledgeable and he does not use typical gym equipment. I was able to purchase the resistance bands we use in each session so that I can do additional workouts in the comfort of my home. In the past 6 months I feel more energized, my physical strength has improved and my body is more toned.

I have been training with The Dojo for the past 9 years. The Sensei at this dojo are very professional and efficient with their teachings. I've been training with Rick in Commando Krav Maga since July of 2010. He's been an excellent instructor and the courses he's taught have been very informative. The courses are well structured and his approach is very easy to follow along with. I am training as an amateur MMA fighter, and some of the lessons he's taught have carried over into my training, which goes to show the effectiveness of both his training and Commando Krav Maga. I would definitely have to recommend him to anyone looking to train in a real world form of self defense.
Josh got me through my first Sparten Trifecta!! His knowledge of the training that I needed to be successful is amazing! My fiancé and I do his MMA workouts and my best friend and I do his balance, core and resistance training workouts twice a week. I also have him train my autistic son twice a month and will be increasing those as my son gets stronger. He is very easy to work with and does his best to design challenging and fun workouts so that the hour goes by very fast!!
Brian is very knowledgeable in all areas of fitness. He is easy going and fun to work out with. His personal training fees are reasonable and I always get my monies worth. And he is one of the few boxing personal trainers! I was lucky to find him!

The first thing that stands out about this program is that the program have been tested on the street, in life and death situations by a police officer. The second differentiating factor, is that I teach techniques based on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and ground fighting. My reasoning; most every women's self defense classes I have seen, or heard about, focus on mental attitude, striking techniques, and kicking techniques. Besides the fact that there is a high chance of injuring yourself using your fist, or your foot as a weapon, my belief is that if you try to fight/defend yourself "standing up" against your attacker who may be bigger & stronger than you (as most programs teach), you will have a difficult time defending against the assault, and you leave yourself vulnerable. As an example, if you are not able to land a kick or a punch that causes your attacker to rethink his plan, there is a high probability he (in some instances she) will injure you to the point when you can no longer defend yourself. On the other hand, if you are prepared to take the fight to the ground, which may be where the attacker "thinks' he wants you to be, you stand a much better chance of defending yourself, delaying the attack (until help arrives & or the attacker decides that you are not the victim he thought, and it might be better to abandon the attack altogether), or possibly even gaining the upper hand. Remember, the goal is to fight back until the attacker gives up and runs away, or to keep from being removed from the area where you are at that time - think van or truck. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was developed by the Gracie family in Brazil as a way for smaller fighters to win against bigger and stronger opponents. Third, anyone can master these techniques, regardless of age and physical ability. I have taken the original techniques and modified them slightly to make them more effective for women of all physical abilities and body types. I teach according to the student's abilities, making sure that the student has the knowledge necessary to feel confident in her every day life and activities. (see my business website) Finally, I encourage you to bring a training partner because while this program goes farther than most by teaching defense techniques that work no matter what stage the attack or attempted abduction is in and it is addressing a terrifying possibility, we always have a great time, and it is more fun to bring a friend. A friend or loved one also makes a great training partner during the class, and after when you are practicing your new skills.
