About
Since 1998, Brad Conroy has dedicated his life to the performance, scholarship, and teaching of the classical guitar. During this time he has become an extremely accomplished and much sought after teacher. Many of his long time students have won competitions, entered collegiate music programs, and gone on to have their own professional careers; where the majority of his students are just looking for a creative outlet, a fun hobby, or a lifetime friend. Brad specializes in working with students of all ages, skill levels, and styles. No matter what your personal goals are with the guitar, Brad Conroy can help take your playing to the next level. Brad’s teaching method is centered around classical guitar technique, but also stresses the importance of improvisation, jazz, modern music, and creativity. He works to help students develop a relaxed technique, disciplined approach, while also giving them the tools that they will need to grow on their own as both a musician and human being. Brad Conroy has been on faculty at the Metropolis School of Performing Arts, Elgin Community College, the Music Institute of Chicago, and he has a private studio in Arlington Heights, IL. I am available to teach all styles of music.

Working and learning with Brad is an energetic and beneficial experience. I was lucky enough to jam every week for about 6 years with this teacher. Brad not only taught me new scales, chords, and music theory, but also taught me how to teach myself guitar. Brad's extensive knowledge of music and guitar has improved my overall progression as a musician.

I have been playing guitar for about 12 years. As a young kid who with no clear path or direction Brad inspired me to persue a career in music. I graduated from Elmhurst college with a bachelors degree in music business and minor in audio engineering. Throughout my journey and college studies I have had many music teachers but none that taught me more than Brad. Not just music, but life lessons that will shape you into a better person. I wish I could have continued my studies with Brad throughout college and with that being said if you have the opportunity to study with him now you’d be foolish to pass it up.

Brad has an appreciation for technique that I notice is missing in a lot of contemporaries; in essence he is not afraid to sit with you and focus on the mastery of a classical method. And as a result, he makes sure that you carry on the skills/toolset beyond the single classical song you are learning at the time. His willingness to challenge his students is something I greatly appreciate even now. I don't think I would have enjoyed the guitar as much as I did if he hadn't challenged me to do my best with every song or every technique.

The most Zen of my teachers. Anyone would have a hard time finding someone with more patience and concern for their students than with Brad Conroy. He's always happy to give technical advice to those who listen.
