She went above and beyond to make sure my cats were not just groomed but that they were healthy! She really knows her stuff in terms of vet care and can give or recommend additional vet meds if needed.

The groomer was very knowledgeable about the care of my dogs. She explained things that even my vet never told me. She was very caring to my dogs and overall I'm very happy with this experience. I will continue to use this service and will recommend them to friends & family!

Mr. Wisowaty is an extremely honest and dependable person. He trained and now walks my dog Grotto. Grotto pulled me during our walks and did not like other dogs. He is now cleared of this problem. Mr. Wisowaty went above and beyond his line of duty by being flexible and caring with the care of my dog Grotto . While walking Grotto he noticed Grotto was not himself. During Mr. Wisowaty's busy schedule he took my precious Grotto to the vet. Turned out my dog had a upper respiratory infection and was given medication. Thank you for caring about my dog. Ed is the only dog walker I trust to be with my dog. Grotto just adores Edward!

Jason is the best, and has been my dogwalker for over a year. I'm an attorney with a completely unpredictable schedule and I frequently work late nights and long hours. There is no way I could do my job without having a reliable dogwalker, and Jason is ALWAYS there when I need him (with hardly any notice, sorry Jason!). He has to handle my dominant, food-aggressive Rottweiler, who is on four different heart medications, and my formerly-abused and "evil" small dog, who even my family refuses to handle, and all with a smile on his face. I'm not the easiest customer to please, but after emergency vet visits, feedings, medications, late night visits, weekend visits, several visits a day, etc... I cannot recommend Jason enough!

Michelle introduced me (and my dog, Gucci) to a "Miracle" Elixer! I have been to our vet for the last 4 years attempting to cure his ear infections. I was told he must be allergic to grass, or the ingredients in his food (went on special diet with restrictions to all treats -- no more chew toys, etc.) Our Vet prescribed anti biotics. I had to squeeze medicine in hiis ear three times a day. He still had (what I call) stinky ear syndrome with brown ooze. He was very uncomfortable and would rub and shake his ears. The only relief he got was when we went for rides and he was able to have his head out the window. When Michelle brought us the bottle of K-9 Miracle Ear Elixer -- I thought Hey, it can't hurt -- let's give it a try. I treated Gucci's ear once in the morning and the second time in the evening. After two weeks, I could tell the difference! After three weeks, Gucci was coming to me in the morning looking for his ear drop! After four weeks -- he was cured!!!! I still treat him once in the morning, just as a preventive. After four years -- all of his "allergy" symptoms are gone. Thank you Michelle and Lisa Leady for K-9 Miracle Ear Elixer!

Cara Care is the best and they took the greatest, most attentive care of our cat when she got sick just before we left for an out-of-the-country trip! I first reached out to Cara Care about pet sitting because of their excellent reviews online and now that we've been using Cara's service for more than 6 months, I can't believe it's taken me this long to return the favor by adding my own review--they are spectacular and I don't know what we'd do without them! My fiance and I adopted our cat Quinoa this past fall and we're too nervous to leave her alone unattended when we go away on weekend trips or longer. We have friends and family in the neighborhood but I didn't want to have to rely on them and take advantage of their generosity. I am so, so glad we found Cara Care! No guilt, totally affordable care, incredibly reliable and they send you pictures and notes of your pet while you're away! Their website is very professional and the online scheduling is a breeze and very convenient to use. We have used their service probably a dozen times now and I can't imagine keeping a pet in the city without having Cara Care on back up. As I mentioned, our cat recently fell ill just one day before we left the country and Caraline responded right away to my late night email explaining the situation, assured me that our sitter was in vet school and that Quinoa was in good hands, and even emailed to follow up after we returned. Our cat thankfully recovered quickly but I don't know how we could have enjoyed our trip without the knowledge that she was being so well cared for at home. Plus we were getting twice daily updates with pictures so we knew she was resting comfortably at home! I honestly couldn't imagine a better pet care service and I recommend them to everyone I know and sometimes people I don't. If you have any hesitations about reaching out to them, don't. I am sure Cara Care is exactly what you're looking for and more!

To whom it may concern: I have been using Kathy Callaghan's dog walking service for the past three months. I have been very pleased with the service, it is obvious that she loves dogs. One time she called me at work to say that my dog was ill, and because I could not leave, she took my dog to the vet for me. She has always been timely and 100 % reliable. I plan on continuing with her service for as long as she is in business.

Sandy watched my 3 cats for me while I was out of town for Christmas. She was scheduled to stop by daily to feed them their wet food, refill dry food, water, etc. When my flight home was diverted to Indianapolis due to poor weather conditions, she even made herself available to feed the cats for an extra day since I was stranded for 24 hours before my flight was reassigned. The entire time I was away, Sandy gave me detailed text updates (including pictures and information about my 11 year old cat who has chosen to seclude himself to a corner upstairs ever since I took him to the vet 2 weeks ago). Sandy is extremely accommodating to both a client's needs and to the needs of the pets, and she also keeps a written log for the client, in addition to texting during each visit. She is extremely reliable and caring!

Lisa has been my pet sitter for over 4 years now. Loyal, trustworthy and dependable are her 3 greatest attributes and the most important part is my dogs just love her! She is just great with them! She has even rushed one of my dogs to my vet when she was at my house pet sitting. My dog cut herself on my fencing deep enough to require stitches. I highly recommend her!

Dusty watched my Shiba Inu, Cooper. She was available last minute and took Cooper in for 3 days when I went out of town. I was going to board him at Pet Smart but their small lonely cubicles can't compare with a big home, large fenced in back yard, and an animal lover that is also a talented Vet Tech. It was an obvious choice to use Dusty! I think Cooper really enjoyed his time over there!

This was my first time using a pet sitting service so I was naturally nervous about the whole process. I was basically giving a stranger unsupervised access to my home and dog. Fortunately, Sara was great about everything. A few days before my trip, she came to meet me and finalize Gizmo's care requirements. From the beginning, Sara was excellent about giving me status updates. I would receive a detailed email with a report on Gizmo (with pictures!) twice a day. It was extremely comforting to know that it was business as usual for Gizmo. She spent her days chasing squirrels, eating grass and trying to get someone to play fetch with her. Gizmo had the unfortunate luck of getting injured while playing. Sara quickly notified me that she thought Gizmo was favoring one leg to put weight on. We agreed that it was best for a vet to see Gizmo. Sara coordinated the appointment and made the vet visit in short order. Sara was fantastic about Gizmo's meds and after care. I couldn't have asked for a better caretaker. When I came back from my trip, I was happy to see that my dog was happy and that my house was in the same condition I left it in. I am definitely requesting her services again whenever I leave town. I recommend Sara's Compassionate Pet Care wholeheartedly!!

Vicki has been walking my boys for over a year now, and she is easy to schedule and communicate with- and they boys love seeing her and knowing they are going for a walk! she sends me texts or emails with pics and updates, which are especially wonderful when we are out of town! The fact that she used to be a vet tech is reassuring-although hopefully we wont need any of those skills anytime soon!

I am so thankful for Rachel, she was there for me during my time of urgent need with my elder pooch Bear. He was nearing the end and I desperately needed someone to come to my home at a moments notice if I needed help with Bear, whether that be rushing him to the vet (I am a emotional mess and can't hold myself together sometimes), helping me carry Bear outside to make, or simply getting Bear to eat. Rachel was there and was such a gentle soul with my big Bear. I know Bear appreciated her love and compassion too. -Sasha

They are always making sure the "kids" are happy! One year Peter called me while we were on vacation due to our one Bull Terriers had an infection and wanted permission to take her to his Vet! In the first year of his life, my Great Dane had worked his way through two dog trainers and five dog walkers. The latest trainer- a certified animal behaviorist, had recommended we put out 9 month old puppy on prozac. My husband and I were against the idea, but decided to have the conversation with our vet. He absolutely refused and then recommended we talk to Kyra. Fast forward two years. Thanks to Kyra (and Comfy K9s) we watched our misunderstood, misbehaved puppy grow into a respectful, loving, well behaved family member. When it comes to training, except to work. Kyra takes her role very seriously. She won’t let you fail your dog. The number one thing that separates her from any other trainer, behaviorist, dog walker- I've worked with is her passion. She wants to help and she'll get it done any way it takes. She reads. She studies. She asks questions. The training is customized to your dog’s individual needs. And, she truly cares about you and your dog. When everyone gave up on our dog, she was there. She’s reliable. I know I can call her anytime and Comfy K9s will take care of us. (They're actually on my emergency contact list!) Kyra is trustworthy. She’s genuine. She will make your dog shine.

I hired Paddy to be my dog walker in April, 2015. He comes 5 days a week and also takes my puppy to the vet or groomer when needed. He is reliable and very responsible and I would recommend him to anyone looking for a dog walker. My puppy was 3 months old when he started and he was diligent with giving me daily updates and reports.

            About

I have worked in the veterinary field for 7 years. I am able to give the medical care that other people would not be as comfortable doing. I am able to give medications, injections and fluids to dogs and cats. I am also able to stay overnights. If that is not required I usually visit 3 times a day to make sure the pets and the house are ok. I also will bring in the mail and take out the trash.

            Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

            • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
            • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
            • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
            • What are your different walk routes?
            • When will you pick up and drop off?
            • How will we communicate?
            • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
            • What’s your cancellation policy?
            • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
            • How and how often do I pay you?
            • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

            What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

            What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

            • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
            • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
            • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
            • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
            • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
            • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
