We are so thankful we found Mariah! We live in a small town with no options for voice lessons. My daughter loves to sing, and I wanted to support her passion. I started an online search, and I found Mariah on Thumbtack. My daughter meets with Mariah through FaceTime once a week for 30 minutes. She has already learned so much, and her singing has improved significantly with only a handful of lessons. I can't wait to continue to watch her grow and pursue her love of singing with the help and guidance of Mariah!

Mariah Kaplan is an excellent teacher on many levels! Her upbeat, easy-going personality helped my young daughter feel comfortable immediately. Mariah quickly assessed my daughter’s musical level and customized a lesson plan for her that continually fosters growth. She did this by increasing musical theory exercises and switching her to a different, more effective lesson book. In addition, Mariah guided us to some helpful learning resources available online. Mariah consistently makes my daughter’s musical journey fun! In particular, she makes vocal warm up enticing and enjoyable. “Many Mumbling Mice” is a favorite. She regularly rewards good behavior and completed homework. Mariah is also very good at demonstrating vocal techniques which makes the learning process so much more comprehensive and efficient. Not only does Mariah make musical training fun, but she is very much aware of the importance of proper training. She stresses age-appropriate development of the young voice. In one instance, Mariah had to correct a potentially damaging vocal habit my daughter had developed on her own. Mariah redirected my daughter’s voice back to a healthy place through a series of exercises and examples. I greatly respect the fact that she is not only considering the vocalist’s singing for today but for the future as well. I feel that my daughter is in excellent hands with Mariah. I have seen the results Mariah’s training during public performances of both individual soloists and choirs. Her students are comfortable, confident and well-trained. Mariah selects vocally appropriate music for each student while making sure that the music is appealing to them as well. I greatly appreciate Mariah’s responsiveness to my concerns and questions regarding my daughter’s training. Moreover, I value the way she responds to my daughter with patience. Mariah is particularly good working with special needs students, although she is so well-trained and skilled that she can work effectively with any student. In short, Mariah Kaplan is an excellent vocal teacher that students of many levels would benefit working with.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My rates are: $30 per half hour lesson $45 per 45 minute lesson $60 per hour lesson I do charge for no show situations. If you will be absent, please let me know no less than 2 hours beforehand. If you cancel last minute or do not show, then a make up lesson will be requested.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to spend our first lesson getting to know each other and the background of my student's musical interests. We learn the basics of music and do warm ups. I test my student's level and assign them pieces that I believe fit their styles and abilities.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a bachelors in voice and psychology from Indiana University in Bloomington. I have taken lessons in piano, voice, and violin and have learned extensively through my teachers. I have taken courses in vocal pedagogy and have been a voice and piano instructor for 2 1/2 years.
