I was moving stuff from a 10'x10' storage unit into a 2 bedroom apartment. It was a 4th floor, with no elevator. The movers did a great job, were constantly moving, and great with communicating the entire time. They were very friendly, patient, and accommodating. This was my first time using movers, and I couldn't have been happier with the experience. I will definitely be calling on Rogers Moving Services for future moves! The only thing I would change is that they didn't mention the $25 transportation fee, which is nothing compared to other companies. However, it wasn't mentioned by them until I asked if there were any other fees. Glad I asked, but again, it wasn't a big deal.

Just used this company for our move into storage and I was pleased with how polite and kind the movers were. For the most part, they took my directions well and were careful not to damage my furniture. They arrived at the scheduled time and started moving right away. Overall, I am quite pleased with the service I received from Apex movers.

We hired Roy from Motion Transport based on his competitive estimate and excellent reviews. They were able to schedule us with only one day's notice! They moved an antique bedroom set we purchased off of Craigslist from a second floor condo in Palatine to our storage unit in Naperville. The young lady we bought the furniture from at the condo texted me and told me they arrived right on time and worked quietly, quickly and carefully. She said they were extremely courteous. My husband met Roy and his associate on the receiving end in Naperville. All the furniture was padded and all arrived in perfect condition. We are extremely pleased with Roy Rhodes of Motion Transports. We will use his services again.

The service was fast and reliable. My things were moved all the way from my place in Los Angeles to my dorm in New Orleans with no broken or missing items. I found the service provider to be very professional and easy to get in touch with when I needed to. I fully recommend this moving and storage company! 5 stars!

I have moved 6 times in the last 14 years. 5 were interstate and this 6th was within state. Even then the work requires skill, dedication and care. I will admit that I found "Alliance Moving & Storage" to be the best so far in my experience. I had a crew of 4 from them to provide me & family with full packing service. Overall it took 6 hours but they did a great job, right from being on time, disassembling certain furniture, wrapping, packing, moving, delivering, unpacking & assembling, all with great care. The crew lead Alex is a great guy to work with, attentive and directing as required his team very well. Together they did a fantastic job without breaking or damaging anything in the entire process. I would recommend "Alliance Moving & Storage" to my friends or colleagues or to anyone for that matter, who need a really professional Moving service to take care of their goods, as if its their own, during a move. Very happy that I took their service.

Daris and his crew arrived to unload my moving truck. Originally, I had hired him to move just the largest items but he and his team were so efficient, they unloaded my entire truck faster than I had expected them to do the largest items. They were prompt and extremely careful with my belongings. I will definitely hire Daris and his team for help moving in the future as well as various around-the-house handy projects. Absolutely the best.

The purpose of this review is to inform you that you should without a doubt trust Chicagoland Moving and Storage for your move. Want the details? Read on fellow buyer: Like a prudent buyer, I researched all the moving companies I could find- Yelp, Angie's List, Home Depot, Thumbtack, you name the impartial review site, and I read it. Chicagoland's price was a little high of the middle of the majority of companies that I saw. I called and was greeted immediately by the owner, Mr. Erez Ron, who did what they all do. He asked for the inventory to be moved, and made a similar prediction in terms of manpower and time estimate as the other companies I spoke to. But then he asked, "How can I secure your business?" Basically the entire time I dealt with this company, every member was realistic and went out of their way to work as hard as they could to ensure this move went over without a hitch. He made a me an excellent deal, and we waited for the scheduled move day. Erez's team, led by Eric and accompanied by Reuben, Tio, and Vincente, arrived punctually as specified, and we reviewed the work- and immediately the expertise of the team stated that this would take longer than they'd quoted. This was expected, and ought to be factored into every move. The team got right to it though. Enter the elements: we got record rain in Cook County that day, and you know what? The team didn't bat an eyelash, and given a break here and there when it was raining buckets, they charged in and out of the rain to load and unload the truck. It DID take longer that we'd expected, but considering how hard it was, I've never seen any moving company work harder, faster, or more efficiently. They were polite, exact, and made sure that what needed to be done was done in the best manner to avoid damage and issues with neighbors etc. I couldn't have been happier with the result! I'd heard horror stories of some companies rescheduling or quitting because the job was too big, or traffic was abominable, or because the weather was too harsh. Friends of mine had incidents with other companies that dawdled on the job, or broke things, damaged the floors/walls of the house, or some objects just disappeared. I've also heard the shock from family members who had entire rooms of furniture moved that never had to simply because communication was poor with the movers. You will NOT have any of these issues with Chicagoland Movers. My research couldn't have been more accurate about it. My overall experience with the genuine, hardworking, and diligent nature of the people I met with Chicagoland Moving and Storage ensured that the move went as smoothly as it rationally ever could have transpired.

They were great. We had a hicup in moving on a weekend and had to reschedule and Joe was completely accommodating. On the day of moving Joe and another mover were on time and even helped pick up the u-haul. We had about 15 medium and heavy duty boxes along with some basic furniture and they helped load everything in 45 mins and was done very carefully. I would definitely recommend these guys for accommodating us even 1 day before we moved and being super easy to work with.

Mobile Services sent Armani and Thomas to help. They arrived right on time, were super friendly, and ready to do whatever was needed. They moved all of my stuff from a (large) storage unit into my UHaul within an hour, everything was packed securely, no problems at all! Great guys, great service and responsiveness when I was arranging for them.

Jason from Liberty Moving & Storage was awesome from a planning and logistical standpoint - he was incredibly knowledgeable as well. Esteven was the crew manager for the course of two days. Day 1 focused on packing, with Day 2 being the actual move. He was incredible!

Derek and his company were amazing. Worked to fit me in on their very tight schedule. Beyond expectations in their care and knowledge in moving an eliptical for me. Worked efficiently and helped move something else, in order to get the eliptical in. Amazing! Will certainly re-hire and refer people to.

Jacob is a very awesome guy. He helped move out of a storage unit into my new home. He was on time, honest, and very hard working. He was able to help me load and unload a 26 ft U-Haul truck pretty well. I would hire them again. He did a great job with my move.

They were very professional and cordial. I truly was satisfied with their services. They met me in the city to removed items from a storage unit and csme immediately to my home to load a trailer with my items that are being delivered to Texas because I'm relocating. Great team work between them and they all had beautiful spirits.

I hired two Bellhops for two hours to help me move out of my storage unit onto the moving truck. Having the extra hands helped to alleviate any stress of moving and they did all the heavy lifting. The entire process was expedited because of their assistance.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
