FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Yoga found me in a few ways over the years. First, when I was working as a HR leader constantly delivering bad news to employees on behalf of the companies for which I worked, I found my escape from the daily stress of these roles would take place barefoot on a yoga mat. Just allowing myself an hour of peace through an introspective practice became a necessity in my daily life, no different from nourishing your body with something good to survive. Then on a whole other level, I had a pretty bad fall down a staircase which really messed up my back. I opted out of doctors visits and xrays but am quite certain it was a pretty serious injury based upon the way pain would trigger itself even through the slightest movements. At times I could not even stand up. I recall one evening having such a jarring pain throughout my back I could not get up from the floor. The more I committed to regular yoga practice, the more relief and strength I built in, not only my back, but my entire body. I never saw a doctor for this injury because my yoga practice fully healed anything that was impairing my mobility and creating such severe pain. To this day my back feels great and backbends are a regular part of my yoga practice. I believe the relief of deep pain is something I felt not only in my back but perhaps in other areas of my life stemming from childhood, too. I am a far stronger woman today physically and mindfully as a result of dedicated yoga practice. How could I not teach after all of this?
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I teach group yoga classes, semi-private yoga classes and private yoga classes. The styles of yoga that I teach are widely received and quite popular in the United States: Hatha, Vinyasa, Vinyasa Flow and Hot Yoga.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Customers should look for studios that provide an authentic yoga experience for students. They should also seek out teachers who have the compassion and patience to work with beginner level students. A teacher who loves to share yoga will have the patience to work with and mentor all levels of students.
