I am accepting all levels and ages of students who seek a deeper understanding of music
and the arts. Under my tutelage my students will develop an excellent technique and musicianship. I combine my teaching with
music theory, music and art history. I offer
performance opportunities to all students. I have an excellent 6’3 Grotrian grand piano
and a Kawai digital piano in my studio. I prepare my students for piano competitions, local recitals as well as college admissions for music majors.
I have 30 years of experience as a professional pianist and instructor. I hold Bachelors degrees from two Universities (Hacettepe University in Ankara & Royal Conservatory of Brussels) as well as Masters and post-masters (Artist Diploma) degrees (Roosevelt University, Chicago). I have been teaching both private and group piano lessons for 30
years in US. I worked as Piano Department Head for number of years at an established music school (Metropolis Performing Arts School) and held a position at Sherwood Community Music School at Columbia College before establishing my own private studio. I also serve as a piano faculty member at the Music Institute of Chicago. I feel privileged to share my knowledge with my students, I love seeing them progress and achieve their goals in music. Elif is a very skilled piano teacher for our son, who came to her already knowing piano but still wanting to better his skills. Lessons are in her beautiful home, set up specifically for pianolessons. Elif is able to listen to and watch his playing, determine what skills he needs, and how to stretch his innate abilities. My son enjoys his lessons very much--which is saying a lot! He leaves feeling enthusiastic about what he just learned, and excited about trying it out. We are very grateful to have found her, and highly recommend her as often as we can.

Elif has done a fantastic job developing a lesson plan that helped me get back into playing the piano after 10 years. Our lessons go beyond the techniques to the history and theory of the music. Definitely one of the best piano teachers I've worked with.

I selected Elif for my young son as she is not only a great teacher but also an active professional who can teach many things that only a professional pianist can. She is great with my child and has amazingly improved my son's skills in a year. He started right after his 4th birthday and is now going into his second year with Elif. I have quite a drive to get to her studio but to me it is worth it. I definitely recommend Elif for both people who just want to learn or for people seriously looking to become a professional pianist.

Elif is a very effective teacher. I had never taken a pianolesson before, even though I had played French horn in high school I thought it would be really difficult for me as an adult to learn how to play piano, with my inexperience using both hands and with bass clef music reading. But after only a few months I am amazed by how fast I am learning and how much I can play now under Elif's instruction. She is so pleasant and easy to work with. I would highly recommend her.

Elif Allenfort has been an amazing piano teacher. She allowed me to pick the direction I wanted to progress and supported me every step of the way. Under her tutelage my piano skills have increased tremendously and I have several beautiful sounding songs to show for my efforts. If I had to go back and pick my piano teacher again there is no doubt in my mind that I would choose Elif.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I kindly ask that students pay at the beginning of each month and I do offer make-up lessons for missed lessons. Students can make payments via zelle or check or cash.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always offer trial lessons to meet with new students. This allows us to not only determine the students level but also to see if we are a good match. I believe that it is important for students to find the "right" teacher for themselves. At the trial lesson, I typically determine the students level and decide which material to use. With beginner level students, I recommend to start with a 30 minute lesson. After several months, if the students progress is good, we typically switch to 45 minutes or 1 hour lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Music is an endless field. I practice everyday as much as I possibly can and read about music to always further my education. I also follow most classical and jazz concerts as well as opera productions in Chicago area.
