Our daughter (Kivi) started with the recorder in 4th grade, and soon graduated to clarinet. By Middle School, she was taking lessons from a classical teacher who advanced her skills markedly. Upon reaching high school, she was in demand by the jazz band - whose leader persuaded her to take up the saxophone. Kivi loved the sax, and loved jazz, but clarinet remained her first instrument. I thought of the great jazz clarinet players: Pete Fountain at the top of a substantial list. But we could find no one who could teach jazz clarinet. Finally, we attended an event at VanderCook, and one of the presenters gave us Jon's name. Kivi studied with Jon for about two years. I was disappointed with the amount of time Kivi had to spend practicing Jon's lessons - what high schooler has time for anything? Nevertheless, Kivi learned a great deal from Jon, and was the only student to ever perform a clarinet solo in our high school's jazz band history ("Jack the Bear"). Jon was unique in my experience in that he taught what Kivi wanted to learn - rather than imposing a rigid course of instruction. If you are considering private lessons that offer something both valuable and unique, please look no further than Jon Novi.
I've been taking lessons with Shaun for about two years. I've grown as a musician and as a guitar player mastering songs that I struggled with on my own. I've been playing for 16 years and as an advanced student, never run out of things to learn.
Matt has been teaching my daughter piano for about 9 months now and we have really enjoyed him. He is patient and imaginative when engaging children to learn an instrument. My daughter has really learned a lot in a short amount of time and is enjoying the piano more and more. He is prompt and courteous. And a very talented musician. We always love it when he treats us to play something. So grateful that we found him.
Matt is a wonderful teacher! He takes time to learn what kind of musician YOU want to be and what YOUR musical tastes are and develops your lesson plans from there. Some of the things that he has taught me have stuck with me years after his lessons. Highly recommend.
Great job and great singer. Cheers Laura!
Kathryn was exactly what I envisioned when I set out to find a jazz singer for my father in law's birthday party. Her voice is seriously gorgeous and she was very easy to work with. She was flexible with me throughout our time planning the gig and was able to accommodate all of my requests. While her song list is quite vast, there were a few special tunes she specifically learned for this event and they sounded fabulous. She found the perfect accompaniment in a very talented guitar player as well. Throughout the time Kathryn performed and for hours afterwards I received compliments from other guests for finding such a talented duo. The men and women alike were very impressed with the quality of music, song selections, appearance, and demeanor of both musicians. Everyone thought the music really added something special to the party. Most importantly, my father in law was absolutely amazed with what wound up being the perfect gift for him. He was very impressed and I was so happy to see his face when Kathryn sang one of the songs she especially learned for us. He'll never forget it. I'd hire Kathryn again in a heartbeat.
Dave has been teaching my son for the past six years. My son always looks forward to his time spent with Dave. Dave is kind, patient, and fun. Dave instills a passion for music. As an educator, I believe that passion is crucial for learning. It's what makes learning so enjoyable. Not only is Dave a talented musician but an excellent teacher. In addition to his musical and teaching talents, Dave is reliable, flexible, and professional.
Greg is the best! He is an incredibly talented musician. He is B able to adapt any piece to your abilities. He wants you to play pieces you're interested in. His encouragement was kind, but firm-- which is exactly what I needed. He held me to a high standard that I was eager to meet. He has a great sense of humor, which made lessons fun and stress free. I highly recommend Greg!
Dollar for dollar, hiring The Band Sundance was the best decision we made in our wedding budget. The band gave us a great experience from beginning to end. We had numerous guests say we had the best or one of the best receptions they have ever attended because of the music and our dancing (obviously aided by the music). They kept asking where I found them and how much I must have paid to book them. As great as the band was, they did not detract from us as a couple. Jim and the band planned everything to cater to us. They provided a DJ for the breaks, and a few songs we wanted outside of their repertoire were played on break. They even let me sit in for a song. I found them through this site, and did a lot of other research on them before booking. We wanted a band who could provide the 1940s big band sound for swing dancing and also play contemporary rock, pop, and country with everything in between (50s, Elvis, 80s, polkas, waltzes, etc.). Moreover, we wanted a band who played both “In the Mood”and “Uptown Funk” well. Hard to find, huh? Well, here they are. They read the crowd well and knew what songs to play to keep people excited and on the dance floor. They have a full sound with keyboards, drum set, lead guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, sax, and vocals, and they blended very well as a ensemble. They helped give our reception such an amazing energy. This praise might seem effusive from anyone who has not seen them, but you cannot go wrong with these guys.
Steve is a great guy and a wonderful musician. Steve graduated the year before I started high school. He came back to help the saxophone section learn music for marching band and along the way, gave many valuable pointers to help us all know our instruments better and grow as young musicians. Almost 20 years later and I still regard him as an inspiration to my musical endeavors.
Vinnie is a very talented musician with a wide range of genres. He took requests and rocked them all! We got compliments all night on Vinnie's performance! He was the best part of our event! Highly recommended!!!
Sang solo during my wedding ceremony
My son learned to play guitar there at the age of 5. He is now 12 and has continued his lessons and has formed a Rock Band where they all practice and perform through the music school. They have all learned a tremendous amount and it continues to be a wonderful experience for them.
SolJAMM is an incredible experience! I have personally taken piano lessons since I was young and my 4 kids have all grown up with piano, guitar or voice lessons in their weekly schedules. Let me tell you that SolJAMM's Instructors perform a service that is nothing short of REVOLUTIONARY!! I SAVED hundreds if not thousands of $$$ over the last 2 years. Using SolJAMM, with my two youngest has forever changed the way I approach personal music instruction. When I previously took lessons there was a lot of time and money wasted just making sure my tired kids were paying attention or doing the tasks they were asked to do. SolJAMM's style allows you to choose the skills you want to work on and sends you all of the necessary material to master that skill or style. They also make awesome personal response videos, live chat sessions and track/update you on your progress. It seems they have actually found a way to make music instruction an easy and fun process. The instructors were extremely respectful and genuinely care for your growth as a musician, almost feels like you are joining a team!!! Again, BEST MUSIC LESSON EXPERIENCE EVER PERIOD.
Corie was my daughter’s first private violin teacher, and she was the perfect foundation for not just the love of the instrument but also the precise technique and skills needed to develop a true musician. Even years later, my daughter’s current teachers are impressed with the solid foundation she received under Corie’s tutelage. Corie made learning a challenging instrument fun at an age-appropriate level without giving up on any high standards. Whether it was learning to read music, developing ear and intonation, or perfecting a bow hold, Corie had multiple ways to teach, to address habits and difficulties, and to share experiences with the larger studio in group lessons. We still use her teaching reminders and phrases during practices sessions. With Corie’s violin lessons, you get more than just basic instruction; you get a surprisingly well-rounded introduction to true musicianship.
We hired Davin to handle the music for a friend's memorial service. We did not give him much time, but he was able to quickly hire musicians and pick songs and interlude music which added so much to the service. Afterward, many people commented on his beautiful and touching performance and on how powerful the music was. He added so much to the service and we will always be grateful for the way he helped to honor our friend. We highly recommend him.
Nick Fane is a fantastic bassist and teacher. He has helped me grow as a musician moving from just reading tabs to learning scales and soon sheet music. He has an amazing work ethic and knows exactly how to challenge you the right amount without it being too hard or to easy. I would strongly recommend him to anyone.
We are offering a live dance music from the '60s to the '70s, consisting of a three piece trio with professional seasoned musicians. The band is self-contained with PA and lights. The band has versatile list of songs to fit any occasion.
I play in many events as a solo acoustic, but also can assemble and lead bands of any style and size. I'm an accomplished saxophonist as well, and have recorded and toured with many renowned artists. On the days I'm not playing or rehearsing, you'll find me in my well-equipped attic studio writing and recording original music for my band, The E-mics. I do record and produce other acts, including Dave Tamkin, Scottie Long, Holiday House, and many more.
