Carol did an excellent job staging our single family home. She truly has a keen eye for interior design. When you combine that with her fair pricing, fast turn-around, and professional team, it's hard to imagine a company that can offer the same value as Carol Brody.

Hi , Here I want to give a very positive review about Interior designer Roopa :) She designed my family room and also did the whole house color selection for me. Me and my husband are very much impressed about her work. She helped me find very good stuff on Internet and told me about stores which I didn't even heard about. There are still few things which I need to buy and decide about but that is pending from my side. Most important thing I felt about her is she understood my requirements very well and help me find right stuff. I will definitely recommend her for other people and friends. Thanks Roopa.

This was my first project on Thumbtack. I purchased a townhome back in August and new I had to remodel the kitchen. I found three designers, met with them for an in home consultation and choose Andrei Viscrbov from Design from A to V to do my kitchen remodel project. I chose Andrei because on that first meeting, he listened to what I wanted for my kitchen remodel, he understood what I said and was able to tell me how he was going to do it and at what costs. He laid out the budget for the whole project at that first meeting. The project is done now and I am extremely pleased with the job he and his business partners did! We would have been on budget but I added a few new items I decided I needed after that first meeting. The pictures attached don't do full service to all the work that they did but it is a small section of the work he did. My kitchen went from being almost unusable to the kitchen I wanted. Thank you Andrei. My projects scope was - demolish the kitchen - new floor from entry way to kitchen and into the dining room - take down wall between kitchen and dining room - new cabinets and countertops and an island - all new lighting from entry way to kitchen - move plumbing to position sink in a better spot - paint all of the first floor and install new baseboard - new dishwasher, range hood, kitchen sink and faucet with garbage disposal - all in all a big project for me I highly recommend Andrei and the construction team he works with.

Patrick patched 3 areas of stucco on my kitchen ceiling. His work was good, he was through, hung plastic to keep the mess contained and cleaned up when he finished. Job went well and looks good. He also took measurements for additional work we are contemplating, but I have not heard back from him with the estimates. Work was done 3 weeks ago.

Absolutely reliable. We had over 30 linear ft. of kitchen backsplash to be done with subway tile and an additional herring bone marble accent over the stove. Tyler could not have been more professional. On time, courteous, clean working, conscientious. Worked with us on design. Met all our requests enthusiastically. Provided very useful suggestions that had not occurred to us. Consistently professional attitude. Motivated and positive. Tyler's skill is exceptional and we look forward to working with him again on further important improvement projects. You will not be disappointed in his work ethic, attention to detail, and pride in his craftsmanship. He's willing to work with challenging schedules, and can be trusted to not say the job is done until you are satisfied. You will be. Do not hesitate to call him for a quote. You will honestly be impressed with his work.

Our experience with Lauren Marshall Interiors was terrific. We worked with Lauren on the renovation (gut job) of a bathroom in our 100 year old home. Because the size of the bathroom is small, it was important to choose appropriate materials and fixtures that modernized the bathroom without compromising the integrity of an older home. Lauren was able to design the space and work within our budget to achieve those two objectives. She provided great visualizations and walked us through the project. Although she had a vision, she was receptive to my input. She delivered all design specifications on time and within budget. She did not rush me to make decisions and gave me lots of options for materials. Lauren communicated well and often to ensure the project was progressing as planned. Additionally, Lauren was punctual to all meetings both at our home and showrooms. Lauren is a wonderful designer with a terrific eye for detail. I highly recommend Lauren Marshall Interiors for any and all home projects, whether a gut kitchen or bathroom job, or giving a room a fresh new look.

We needed to stage our house very quickly to move to the West Coast. After we scheduled our consultation. We were sent a detailed list of things and how the project will be managed. Within 5 days our house was decluterred and staged. We needed to have our furniture moved right away so Sophia had all our things organized with movers and had new furniture staged in the house. Our realtor just had to bring a photographer to get our house listed. Everything was done quickly and efficiently. We felt at ease with this stressful move and ended selling our house in 9 days! Thanks to Space mkr’s team Amazon style our house looked like a magazine home! We moved 2 weeks ago in our new house! We liked the design Sophia did at our old home so Much, she will be designing and planning the layout Of our new home. Our family had a positive experience and loved working with a fun and creative team! Thank you again!

Excellent service, upfront and honest off the bat. We were looking for an interior designer to really alleviate the hassle of moving into a new home. We were low on time and wanted someone who would manage a project from start to finish. David's offer was to do a free consultation in home with a full walk through free of charge, and his website laid out how the entire process will work so it was 100% up front. From a project managers perspective, that's perfect. We are looking forward to working with David on creating our home and will leave a post review of how things went. Expecting things to go really well.

I was planning an addition to my home. I had no clue as to how complicated it could be. Between permits, the zoning requirements and not to mention the contractor problems that could have occurred. I was referred to Illusione Design by a friend. He said they did a great job for him and know I know why. Mr. Quintero and his team lead me through the whole project with professional advise and a level of experience and professionalism I have not experienced in a long time. What I now know could have been a really trying situation, went off without a hitch. The plans were done in no time and as far as knowing your way around city hall and all the codes. These guys really blew my mind. So yes. if you're planning any type of project, I think you would be smart to give them a call. I'm sure you will be pleased with the services they provide.

As I stood in the center of giant towers of moving boxes I realized I was going to need a real PRO. My fiance and I had just moved into a much smaller space and I had to figure out how to transform ONE ROOM into a living room, dining area, tool/work area for my fiance and design studio for me... I work from home. I called several places and Bre was the only one who returned my call in a timely manner... great sign! There were several winning things I enjoyed about working with Bre. She had a super positive attitude, was punctual, truly listened, followed with solutions, was ready to put some elbow grease into it. She had useful ideas and tested them to see if they would function. Bre understands space, light, ergonomics, aesthetics... and many more things that transform a great organizer into an AMAZING one. I recommend her to anyone who needs their space to work for them and not the other way around. Treat yourself to the gift that keeps on giving. She saved me a lot of time and frustration. Thank you Bre. You jump-started me into a space I enjoy walking into.

Another Level Design has done many exquisite decorating jobs for me in several of my homes for the past 9 years! Jenita is a timely, hardworking professional that pays attention to every detail! Her ideas are so fresh, and innovative. A lot of her design ideas I would never have thought of on my own, but she patiently walks me through every detail until we agree on the perfect design! I also really love her inside/outside Holiday Decorating services! She really makes my home the talk of the neighborhood from Autumn Decor to Thanksgiving Decor to Christmas Decor, with a fresh design every year! Because she has done so many outstanding jobs for me in the past, I now trust her professional ability to the point where I give her more control of projects, and I now often give her permission to just "wow" me!!!! I must say, she always delivers!!! It is a good feeling to have one less thing to worry about, and to come home every day to the peaceful, stylish oasis that she has created for us in many rooms of our home! It is also a great feeling when people walk into our home and compliment our decor over and over again! Her prices are also a steal considering the level of time and perfection that she puts into every job! She will stay until the job is done, and meets my approval. Another Level Design will be my designer for life!!! Give them a try, you won't regret it! :-)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
