One experience that I feel helped me to become a better tutor was working as a tutor at my university. There, I helped my fellow education students to prepare for the difficult task of passing their teacher certification exams. When the students first came in they were nervous about taking the test. Some of them had failed the test previously and were worried that they might never become teachers. I reviewed math, reading, and grammar with them individually and in small groups. I also helped the students to build their confidence in themselves so that they believed they could pass the test. After I had spent time working with them they felt ready about going to take the test because they had a solid understanding of the subject matter that they would face and had confidence in themselves as well. The students often came to me after the tutoring sessions and thanked me personally, which made the experience very rewarding.
