Alex is AWESOME!!!!!!!! He is a true professional and did a thorough and high grade job on our fence project. From being on time for the estimate to successfully installing 160+ feet of new wood fence with 30+ posts dug and cemented 36" in the ground, Alex exceed ALL of our expectations with this project. As an added touch, Alex also sent us numerous photos throughout the days he worked on our project to keep us looped in on his progress! Wow - that was so nice and what a great and smart way to keep us in touch with all going on with our important job while we were at work! We fully recommend Alex and his crew! Feel free to contact me with questions at christopherwalsh1964@gmail.com for reference! :)

Kyle communicated in a very timely manner. All issues were discussed and agreed upon before work started. Workers showed up when they said they would, and cleaned up every day. Result was a gorgeous rebuild of a retaining wall, and a perfect privacy screen along back fence. Highly recommend

Fence installations. Humpal's Fence did a superb job. All the posts were concreted in and allowed to dry for several days to assure proper curing time. Also, all of the boards were screwed in individually for maximum strength. Price was cheapest I had found and he even called Julie. Would recommend Humpal's Fence to anyone who is concerned with getting the best quality for the best price.

Absolutely fabulous! We had a really great experience working with Master Craft & Design. They remodeled both our guest bathroom and deck in July 2018. Both projects exceeded our expectations!! Ed and his crew showed up on time every day and were very professional and friendly. They treated our house as if it were their own - taking care of the space and cleaning up at the end of every day. They were like family when they were in our home. In fact, we miss having them around! Both projects were finished on time and very close to our original quote. Ed was also very responsive and accommodated all of my requests which was important to me. The bathroom included updating the plumbing, laying new tile in the shower and floor and repairing the drywall. The bathroom is gorgeous and the attention to detail with the tilework was amazing. Josh offered his design suggestions along the way and we were so thankful for that since we had never done a remodel before. Ed and his crew took our small crappy deck and turned it into a true outdoor sanctuary! They reinforced the old frame, replaced all of the deck boards, added a ton of new square footage, and gave us a gorgeous new railing. Every time I walk now outside my heart smiles. We absolutely love our new deck and enjoy spending time out there! We couldn’t be happier with the way both projects turned out. I would highly recommend Master Craft & Design. We will definitely be using them again in the future!

Eddy came to my house to fix a water damaged basement. I had to fix a wall and rip off around 300sqft of carpet and lay vinyl tiles I also needed to install the trims and install a closet door. Eddy did a FANTASTIC Job so patient and professional with all my requests. On the last day of job I had to leave for a party and he accomodated his schedule to leave and come back the next day to finish the work. It was really appreciated. Even the quality of work is no less then a profesional company in the market. YOu can see if for yourself in the before and after pics. I am just glad that I now have a great handyman. I am also going to employ him for some plumbing (sump pump insall) and landscaping (putting up a fence) work. He does that too and I would assume with the same level of devotion and quality with which he did my basement. In short, he is a ONE MAN ARMY in the truest sense.

We had such a positive experience using J & S Remodeling! Eric was very helpful when it came to applying for the permit and doing all the leg work before installing our fence. His communication was A+ and he kept us in the loop along the way. The craftsmanship and attention to detail, on our fence, was spot on. We are very pleased with our new fence and highly recommend their services!

Daniel Sullivan returned my phone calls. He came for the estimate on the day he said he would be here. He called me with the final estimate and came to cut up the tree branch on the day he said he would. On the day, he was coming to cut up the branch, he called me with an estimated time of arrival and was here at that time. The branch was cleaned up with no damage to my fence and the yard was completely cleaned up after the job was completed.

I hired American General Contractors to build a wooden fence in my yard 11' away from the existing fence to keep my dog and the neighbors dogs apart. I could not be more pleased with this company.. the time they take to answer all questions and concerns and the knowledge they have is very refreshing. I recommend this company to everyone with confidence that whatever you need this is the one and only call to make. They also repaired some work for me that a (nightmare) contractor did. Thank you American General!!!

I hired Chris to remove and replace a few sections of fence that had blown over in a storm. He came out on the date and time he promised to see the job and provided a quote for labor and material. I had a short timeline since I was planning on putting our home up for sale. He agreed to the timeline. Chris kept me informed by voicemail or text as to the status of the material and when he would be out to remove the old posts, when he was picking up the material and when he was going to do the install. The job was completed on time and on budget and it looks great. Based on this experience, I would not hesitate to hire him for other work. I appreciate the care and thoughtfulness he put into my project. He was a pleasure to do business with.

Mark with Remarkable Carpentry and Remodeling came out within 2 days to get me an estimate on a new fence. I received my estimate 1 day later and booked with him in the following days. I had him build a 300 linear foot fence, Mark and his crew was done in 2.5 days and it turned out great. Wouldn't hire anyone else except them for any future jobs.

Matt is a very experience carpenter and did a wonderful job with my new fence at a better price than the fence companies. I will definitely call Matt again for anymore carpentry work I will need.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
