Introduction: I provide quality web content and traditional writing services for individuals and small businesses that want excellent work but don't have a large budget or to be locked into a long contract. At the same time, I expect decent pay for my services. Editing books is far down on my list. I DO NOT EDIT ADULT BOOKS. No fiction, except for short children's books. I love to pick apart difficult topics and make them easy for the average person to understand. Business owners are thoroughly versed in their companies but often don't have the expertise to put it into words. Let me do that for you. I do not ghostwrite autobiographies, neither do I want to write your self-help book. I will work on children's book manuscripts and I will help clients with small family histories. I don't do resumes. If you want to contact me, you had better be prepared to pay me as we go along. I will not work on spec for projects of this type. NO ACADEMIC PAPERS OR LETTERS TO CELEBRITIES, please. In addition, I don't want to promote your book. If we work together on a manuscript, helping you to get on Kindle is an option, but it is not if you have the book already written.

The work was fantastic. She wrote a Biography for my website and proofread my political platform. We talked for an hour before over the phone as an interview and then she wrote a beautiful biography.

Arlene is a professional writer in every way and working with her was awesome! She did an amazing job with my new website and made it ready to publish in an excellent time frame. She made web content edits that were relevant to the website and also came up with the vision/mission statements based on my objective. She did all this at a very reasonable price. I would definitely use her again for my next project and I highly recommend her work to anyone who wants an editor that genuinely cares about. So glad to have crossed paths with her!

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Editing starts at $3 for every 250 words and goes up to $7.50, depending on the amount of editing needed. Original writing starts at $6.50 for every 100 words and goes up from there, also depending on the complexity of the project. I need to see a sample of what you have before I can give you a definitive estimate. I prefer shorter, ongoing projects such as blogs, news releases, brochures, web content and the like. If you have a book project, please only contact me if you are prepared to pay for work on several chapters in advance. I reserve the right to terminate the project if the fit is not right.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

It varies depending on the customers and their needs.. The important thing is to ask questions and get as much information as possible to see what the client really needs. Often, it's up to me to suggest a service or make a recommendation that the clients doesn't realize that he or she needs.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

BA in Communications from Loyola University of Chicago. I have written professional for over 35 years and have worked for and freelanced for a variety of Chicago area newspapers and national magazines such as Parents, Boys' Life and more.Be
