Had Rogers help move our items from a nearby storage place into our new home in the city. After moving here from New Jersey, the professional yet easygoing attitude of the movers laid my stresses to rest. They had a great work ethic and would highly recommend them!

Julio and Ray were awesome. I had a difficult situation with other movers after they did not show up on time. and they were great at helping me out at the last minute. They were super hardworking and fast and I was impressed by how quickly they were able to move everything down my stairs. They also had a difficult situation with the freight elevator because my building I was moving into was going to close the freight elevator before they were done, but they improvised and got everything up super quickly. They were very kind and super efficient. I don't know what I would have done without their help!!!!! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

I had to move my stuff from a storage unit to my house. Three guys came and finished the job on time for me. They were very careful with my stuff ; I had some HEAVY stuff and they moved them all without a complaint to the first floor. They did come a bit late but I would not blame them because their prior job was in another state! The guys were very professional, courteous and they moved fast to save me sometime. I really would hire them again any time.

Melvin and his team were wonderful and fast! They got me moved out of my old place and into the new place in two hours... start to finish! They were all very nice and polite. They disassembled and reassembled my bedroom furniture with no problems and even showed me how to do it for future reference. If you are looking for a reasonable priced, no hidden cost, local moving company that will come in and get you moved with no problem I would recommend Melvin and Safehands Movers and Delivery System. I have moved 6 times in the last 14 years. 5 were interstate and this 6th was within state. Even then the work requires skill, dedication and care. I will admit that I found "Alliance Moving & Storage" to be the best so far in my experience. I had a crew of 4 from them to provide me & family with full packing service. Overall it took 6 hours but they did a great job, right from being on time, disassembling certain furniture, wrapping, packing, moving, delivering, unpacking & assembling, all with great care. The crew lead Alex is a great guy to work with, attentive and directing as required his team very well. Together they did a fantastic job without breaking or damaging anything in the entire process. I would recommend "Alliance Moving & Storage" to my friends or colleagues or to anyone for that matter, who need a really professional Moving service to take care of their goods, as if its their own, during a move. Very happy that I took their service.

Moving can be stressful; however, Chicagoland Moving and Storage made my personal experience quick, simple, and easy. They were remarkably professional, fair, and thorough, packing and shifting each item with great care. I highly recommend them for the simplest or most complicated move. You will not be disappointed!

I reached out to Joey for a short-notice move as I was coming in from out of state. He said they had flexibility and he kept his word! I had a 16 foot truck filled with stuff from a one bedroom apartment and two guys moved it in 2 hours. My husband and I did help with some of it, but they did all the heavy lifting up three flights of stairs which was a life saver. Would definitely recommend using them!!! Worth every penny.

I loved my crew and the office staff. They were all excellent to work with. I would recommend this company to anyone who needs a mover and does not want damages or to bother friends to move you. Moving with a moving company is so much easier. Trust me.

They handled all of or pre-packed boxes and all our furniture with care. We have some exspensive pieces and had a negative experience with a previous move/moving company, so it was refreshing to have a good experience. There was great communication throughout, and did an excellent job fitting everything into our storage unit. The only problem, was we planned to pay by credit card. We were told by the office that was fine a few days in advance, and that there would be a 3% charge, which we were ok with. The head mover told us this was fine when he arrived, then proceeded to have us fill out the paperwork. At the end of the move he then came to us and said he couldn't get ahold of the office and we'd have to pay by cash. He said if we didn't pay by cash we'd have to wait endlessly to hear back from the office. We didn't believe what he was saying, but obliged because we were on a time constraint. We felt a little scammed and are now unsure if we will use them again when we complete the second part of our move this summer. We'd probably require written communication from them, that we will exclusively pay by card and there will not be any other options the day of.

Whether you're looking to move across town or to a new state, I would definitely recommend using H2H Movers! I found H2H Movers through Yelp and requested a free quote through their website. I received an email back the same day, and they made themselves available to answer any and all questions even before we decided to book their services. And then once I booked my appointment, they helped me gather all of the insurance documentation that my apartment building requested. The crew that H2H Movers sent was amazing! They were on time, courteous, professional and ensured everything got to the new house in the same shape it left the apartment. These guys are great and I would hire them again in a heartbeat!

J. C. Movers helped us twice. The first time was for moving across the country, they loaded our U-Haul truck and drove it to our new home about 1200 miles away. We trusted the driver with a key to the back of the truck just in case some items shifted during the trip. They did a wonderful job, everything was loaded properly, everything arrived safely, nothing was damaged. We were kept informed of the location of the truck by cell phone. The second time was to remove all items our basement and garage from our old house that was unoccupied. Once again we trusted them with the keys to the house. There was 8 years of clutter, old furniture and plan old junk. They did the job promptly, the day after I called which exceeded my expectations. They kept me informed via text messages, phone calls and photos sent via Smart Phone. It was just like I was there but I didn't need to be. Nothing was damaged, the house and garage were left broom clean as I requested. The whole process was so easy and not stressful at all. I worked in customer service 32 years and I highly recommend them.

I hired two Bellhops for two hours to help me move out of my storage unit onto the moving truck. Having the extra hands helped to alleviate any stress of moving and they did all the heavy lifting. The entire process was expedited because of their assistance.

United Relocation Movers were GREAT! They helped us to move to another state. It was first time using this moving company. I got a a call from Chris and and we went through the items I need to move, he gave me a quote that I like. He asked me about 25% deposit to reserve the move($605). The binding estimate for my move was $2500. On the move day I decided to add xtra boxes, movers( LEO) explained me the contract's policy, I was billed for another $700 same day. Guys were friendly and hardworking. Delivery guy in FL repositioned all of our furniture, they were very careful with our stuff. I would recommend this company and use their service again!!!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

      • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
      • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
      • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
      • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
      • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
