"First off, Christy is amazing! She is very professional and cares about dogs deeply. I contacted Christy because I have a 46 pound Pitbull named Layla who is very reactive/aggressive towards other dogs and was seeking training/behavior classes. What Christy found was and reassured me of, was that Layla was not aggressive at all and that as a dog, she did not want to be. Rather, Christy said that she was very insecure of herself and I found that to be very true!! During session 2, Christy brought along her dog Mazzei and after only 3 sessions, Layla was able to co-exist with her PEACEFULLY!! It is truly amazing and I would have never been able to imagine that Layla would be able to be around another dog. Added bonus: Christy massages Layla when she is in distress which teaches her to calm down and it has been a huge help! Christy gives my boyfriend and I expert direction on how to properly train Layla as well as weekly "homework" assignments. Although we are still continuing training with Christy and onto our fourth week, we have found her to be a huge help and couldn't imagine the way Layla is now without her. I HIGHLY recommend Christy for training, behavior modification, and canine massage for your furbabies. You will not regret it!! If I could, I would rate her 10 stars! Do yourself a favor and hire Christy...like NOW! :)"

"Here is a little history, we adopted a tree walker coonhound from a shelter in Tennessee and brought him home to Wisconsin. The first month was ok as we all got adjusted to each other. There were counter surfing, mouthing and dominance issues from the beginning. We knew we had a stubborn ALPHA, ALPHA male but we were working through it. The dog and I had an altercation over a rawhide where he became very aggressive and tried to bite me. From that day forward he would try to attack me unsolicited any time he saw me or heard my voice. It got so bad I would have to lock myself in a room so my wife could let him out. I am 6',1" tall and 220 lbs, this is the first time in my life with all the dogs I've owned that I was afraid of a dog. We talked to many behaviorist's whom all said we should just rehome the dog and had no answers for us. I was determined not to give up and make things work because I knew that this was a good dog deep down inside. That is when I was recommend to Shelly at "Hair of the dog that bit ya". I got a great feeling from her right away on the phone and was intrigued by her explanation of how she handles her training of dogs (it was a much different approach from what I was hearing from everyone else). This is a large breed hunting dog who is aggressive and she knew exactly how to handle it. She came out the very next morning to a situation where everyone in the house was uneasy and afraid of this dog who now was in total control of the situation. Long story short after two hours Shelly had broken the dog had him taking commands from both my wife and myself. We felt like we had our lives back and believe it or not the dog seemed happier that he now knew the pecking order. This was truly a Christmas miracle for my entire family. The picture attached is from the same day where that morning my dog wanted to kill me and what he was like by the afternoon! I cannot thank Shelly enough and I am so excited for our new life together with Bohannon. Todd & Shelly Bloom"

"Mindful Dog Training provides a customized program tailored to you and your dog. We address the imediate concerns while also building on the basics that will serve as the frame work for the relationship and perhaps more advanced training for fun or utility. My most commonly used approach is: See, Mark, Reward, (see a good behavior, mark it with verbal cue and reward with praise-pets- and treats) but also often use combinations of tools and techniques as the situation requires. Every dog is different, every situation is different. Some dogs would greatly benefit from a group class, but need help getting under control enough to attend class. We work together to get your pack on track and then explore what local resources you would need or simply like to use. If you have an extreme situation I have contacts with specialists in the area and will happily refer you to them. One size rarely fits all. Most important is - that you and your pack get the answers you need, I am a lighthouse on the journey. Psychology has always interested me. I think it is amazing that a conflict or frustration can be solved by changing nothing more than our way of looking at the world. Dog behavior is in some ways more rewarding than working with people since they are not creatures with a hidden agenda or alterior motives. Mostly they want to please you and have a few simple needs to fulfill their Dog Life. But it gets confusing when they proudly present a chewed slipper. You think "It was mine, I like it, you killed it, cause you are a bad dog!" The dog thinks, perhaps, "I found this thing, killed it and brought it to you to show my value as a provider!" Getting the dogs actions and understanding to match ours is one of the most fun and educatioanal things we can do. It teaches us patience and self control while also helping us to see things through the eyes of others. We get life lessons and a thankful, furry friend."
