I had Tony install an electric garage heater that I had purchased. He did a great job of understanding what I wanted to accomplish, and determining the best way to get the installation done. Tony was on time and charged a very fair price for the work performed. I would definitely use Tony again for other projects.

I got carpets replaced in two of our 3-floor condo/town house. It was an area of about 1400 sq ft and Tyler's team got the job done in under 3 hours! 5-6 men came and worked on both the floors simultaneously. They removed the old carpet, hauled it and put in the new carpet for a pretty decent price. I got quotes from multiple places and Elite floors had the best rate. A suggestion for improvement would be to not leave behind nails. I had nails only on the bottom floor. Maybe one of the men who worked in that area wasn't particularly careful. I had to keep my pet from walking there till I cleared everything up. Overall, I would definitely recommend Elite Floors for carpet installation.

Zach did an amazing job with everything we threw his way. The job started as a burst water pipe in our cement foundation needing fixed, and we ended up having him put in all new flooring in our downstairs. He worked with our budget and was very easy to talk to. One worry we had hiring off of Thumbtack was whether we would be able to trust someone with the house while we weren't there, and I can honestly say we were never concerned when Zach was around. He was great with our big dog and our toddler in the house. We really can't say enough good. We'll definitely use him again and would recommend him to anyone really needing any type of work from handyman jobs, plumbing and flooring!

We chose Floorcovering International for our carpet replacement (~1000sf) at our home. The sales team came to our home with sample books for us to look through, and were very informative on the variety of products available. We chose a stain resistant carpet because of our muddy dog paws, and the occasional accident. It was decided in one meeting and we had a quote the next day. It was the most affordable quote we received amongst a few different companies. We took care of moving the furniture and removing the old carpet ourselves. They were very accommodating with ordering and scheduling so that we would not be living in our kitchen for any longer than necessary. Once they came to install, it was discovered that there had been an estimating error in their software, and they had not ordered enough carpet. They promptly remedied the issue by quick shipping carpet to get it installed a few days later. The install team did an outstanding job. They kept our house clean, took care of some squeaky subfloor areas and coming back a couple different times on some areas of concern. While we had a delay due to incorrectly ordered amount of carpet, we worked with them to determine a fair credit to the project, while also getting everything addressed in a timely manner once the carpet came in. We have some concerns with fraying that we were not notified about until after the fact, but the product is otherwise exactly what we were looking for. Overall, the team was friendly, responsive and professional in taking care of our flooring replacement needs. We enjoyed working with a family run business.

We moved into our new house with about two thousand sqft of carpet and it looked awful and had a smell to it. I was so nervous that we had to spend the money to replace all the carpet and it would cost a fortune. Chris and Cody cleaned it and now it looks brand new and smells great. Thank you Thank you!

Travis and his crew did a wonderful job installing a couple of concrete walkways at our property. His crew was very pleasant, courteous, and easy to talk with. I have no experienced with concrete projects so I have little to compare with, however, I would have liked the area cleaned up a bit more after the work was completed - some residual concrete on fencing, vinyl siding, wood left in the yard, and tape on the window. Overall, we are very happy with the work and we plan to use this company for our next concrete project - concrete pad for a steel building.

We had carpet on our living room floor for 25 years. ProSand came in and removed the carpet, discovered a beautiful hardwood floor, and sanded and sealed the floor. They also installed matching shoe molding in the room. We are delighted with the results. The experience was pleasant and easy for us. We would use them again with no reservations.

I have recommended Seniors Handyman to many of my friends. Gordon's pricing is very reasonable and the quality of the work is outstanding. From fixing a roof to installing a glass tile backsplash to installing light fixtures or a chair rail and trim, I've never been disappointed with the quality of the work. He is also always willing to work around your schedule and completes jobs on time. I feel fortunate having a handyman I can trust.

Mark and his team were hired to install a new front door, jam and locks for a new home purchase. They came out to measure and gave me a quote on a Friday. On Monday everything was installed and perfect within a couple hours. They were on time, quick, professional and knowledgeable giving me advice on the type, finish and security features I needed to keep my family safe. I highly recommend them and will be using then again on my next project. The end product was affordable and truly shows their professional craftsmanship.

John laid carpet and vinyl flooring in my home. His knowledge was excellent, even offered a few suggestions that saved me some money. Only negative was it took a little longer then planned.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is the cheapest carpet?

If you’re looking to reduce carpet installation costs, there are several ways to save. Start by considering your carpeting needs. Manufactured materials such as polyester and nylon will be cheaper than natural fibers such as wool. From big box retailers, starting prices for olefin-based carpet are approximately 50 cents per square foot — making the cost under $5 per square yard. Indoor carpets made with olefin fibers are typically the least expensive on the market. Keep in mind that olefin fibers are not as soft on bare feet as other fibers, so are often used in areas like basements, playrooms or indoor patios. Nylon and polyester are good options to reduce carpet installation costs while still creating a cozy feel. The face weight, fiber construction and density of a carpet all affect the cost per square foot. The cheapest nylon or polyester carpets can start at just under $2 per square foot, making them about $18 per square yard. Lower-cost carpet tends to wear out more quickly and show stains more easily, so avoid light colors and vacuum regularly to keep the fibers clear of dirt that might age it too quickly.

How much does it cost to install carpet?

If you’re ready to bring new life into your house with a makeover from the ground up, you’re ready to learn more about carpet installation costs. Installation costs vary greatly, depending on a number of factors such as the type of carpet, the number of square yards, any necessary repair work, the number of stairs you have, and where you live. Due to these variables, the national average cost of carpet installation ranges between $200 and $4,500.

To start planning for your new carpet, measure roughly how many square yards of carpet you’ll need. Research the main carpet styles and materials you like to get a feel for what they cost. Nylon carpets are typically the least expensive, and wool is one of the higher-end carpets. Prices per square foot might range from under $2 to over $10, depending on materials. Count the number of stairs you want carpeted; each one might average between $3 and $10 (or more for box steps). Carpet removal can be an added cost as well, averaging $1-$4 per square yard, depending on the company and regional disposal costs.

How much does it cost to carpet a bedroom?

If you’re building a new home, remodeling, or ready for new carpet in your bedroom, you’ll want to know carpet installation costs. Here are the factors that affect the cost of your new bedroom carpet:

      • Installation cost per square yard: From under $2 to over $6. Carpet companies have a labor cost per square foot for installing your new carpet. Depending on where you live in the country, that rate can vary greatly. This rate does not include the cost of the carpet.
      • Type of carpet: from $1 per square foot to $20 or more per square foot. The fibers that make up your carpet will have a direct effect on cost. As an example, specialty wool carpets may start at about $10 per square foot, while a manufactured fiber like nylon may be about $2 per square foot.
      • Removal of old carpet: from $1 to $4 per square yard. Old carpet is labor-intensive to remove and also costs money to dispose of or recycle. The cost to remove carpet will depend on how much carpet you need removed and whether your installation pros offer a discounted rate for installing your new carpet at the same time.
      • Subfloor repair: from $40 to $70 per hour (plus materials cost). If the flooring underneath your old carpet is damaged, it must be repaired before the new carpet is installed. Many carpet pros can offer this service, or you can hire a handyman to handle the job.
      • Type of carpet pad: $1 per square yard and up, depending on the thickness. The cost to install carpet pad is typically included with the labor cost per yard of installing the carpet itself.

How much does it cost to install carpet on stairs?

The number of stairs you want carpeted in your home will directly affect your carpet installation cost. Putting carpet on stairs generally increases the labor time and requires a higher degree of detail than laying carpet flat. Where you live in the country also plays a role in your carpet installation cost. Carpet installation companies in smaller towns with a lower cost of living and a lower cost to do business (insurance, company vehicles, employee labor, etc.) can usually offer their customers lower rates than companies in large cities where the cost of living and the cost to do business are higher. Carpet pros will often quote you a flat rate per stair once they do a site visit to provide an estimate. They’ll take into account the size of each stair you want carpeted (including both the step and the riser), and what type of stair it is. For example, the cost might range between $3 and $10 per stair for labor only. On the higher end of the spectrum, box stairs or staircase stairs with spindles that must be worked around might cost between $15 and $25 per stair.
