I have used Becht for regularly scheduled housecleaning as well as special projects like clean up after drywall project. Ben is so easy to deal with for scheduling, hires very nice/friendly professionals who show up on time, are very thorough, are willing to change tasks from week to week, and pay special attention to things I’ve missed. Rachael was here last, and she did a fantastic job.

I'm pretty "handy" myself - I can do plumbing, electrical work, automotive work, furnuiture assembly, etc etc. However, when I got the instructions to the murphy bed we purchased, I said to myself "Oh, hell no" and I immediately decided to hire someone to do the job and I'm glad I did. Greg knocked the job out in less time than even he estimated, AND came in under bid. The work is A+++ top notch and I'm certain I'll be using him again in the future!!

It started with junk removal from a bathroom remodel. He was on time and did as agreed on the junk pickup. I got to know Luke and what his abilities are as far as carpentry, drywalling, and light electrical and plumbing. As I progress on the remodeling I plan to utilize him on the framing of the shower, drywalling, and the hooking up of the plumbing. My first impression of Luke was excellent.

Sean was quick, courteous, and professional. He did an awesome job for us in replacing drywall in the laundry room and garage. Matched paint perfectly. He also replaced a dryer plug for us and hooked our new refrigerator line up for us. I would highly recommend using Sean. We will definitely be calling on him again in the near future!

I had an old tub and shower removed and a new tub and surround installed. Gary volunteered to pick up the tub and surround for me and we had a delay when Menards sold my set and he had to go to a different store, on another side of town to get it...I appreciated this so much! Gary is very nice and I believe he is works hard to do things the correct way. My impression is that he is honest and has integrity. I felt comfortable having him in my home. He is courteous and cleans up after himself. He is coming back to install some drywall!

I appreciate the immediate response to my inquiry. Ron and his crew of 2 were very courteous, patient and respectful. My project was more detailed than originally thought. The crew continued to work to make the installation of a wall oven and microwave a success. Additional electrical work and wood trim were needed. They were careful and cleaned up afterwards. Due to the additional work and materials needed, there were additional charges. I found Ron to be very fair with these charges. He definitely takes pride in his work and wants the consumer to be happy. I would definitely hire CAM II for future needs

Difficult to give a very positive nor a very negative review of James' work. He repaired my 2-storey chimney with stucco, by installing a wire mesh around the existing (bad) brick and applying stucco around the entire chimney. James promised to have a smooth finish, nice looking, non-leaking chimney when all was done. At time of this writing, my chimney's finish is not smooth, and it looks OK. Whether or not it leaks we will see, but it appears to be well sealed. A few details: 1. The project was started more or less on time, but the project took 3-4 weeks longer - and - quality was below what he'd promised. 2. In general, James was responsive via text, pleasant to work with, and my expectations of the quality of his work were high based on our communication. However, he seemed to promise dates/quality that ultimately were not delivered. Perhaps he could scale down on the promised delivery so as to manage customer expectations as well as provide a realistic picture of the finished product. 3. I was not satisfied with the quality of the 'finished' product and communicated this to James. Post-payment, James honored one of his promises to come back out to try to 'fix' any issues outstanding. At time of this writing, there is still one outstanding 'offer' from James to come back and finish smoothing out the surface, but I have not heard from him in weeks. This makes it difficult to trust that the company will stand by the 7-year labor warranty that is in the contract.

Excellent work, reasonable rates. Went above and beyond in every aspect. Completed extensive painting and drywall repair in a short time frame and tailored his hours to meet our schedule. Left house immaculate when he finished. Honest and trustworthy, friendly and offered great advice on paint colors and even helped us out with great advice on some unrelated work we were doing ourselves. Couldn't be any happier with the work he did and would hire him again in a heartbeat.

Our church in Carmel, IN recently had Shield Coatings LLC remove a large amount of wall covering/drywall, installed new covering/drywall, re-plastered our ceiling and applied a beautiful new paint job as well. The job was completed on time and at a reasonable price. Our church members love it. The Shield Coatings staff was professional and I would highly recommend this company for any of your paint and drywall needs. Sincerely, Church Deacon

James is awesome. Not only did he complete my job perfectly, he was committed fully to it until it was satisfactorily done even though it was a relatively small drywall project for him. And, on top of that, he was in close contact the full time and happy to work around my schedule. I would absolutely recommend James, not just as a great drywall guy, but as a dependable person overall.

After buying our house and living in it for a few months we wanted to change the floors. The flooring consultant told us that there were some issues with the floor that needed to be fixed before he could do anything. That began an 18 month quest for someone who could do the entire home instead of just one section. Thumbtack was actually a last ditch effort to find someone but I am so glad that I posted. Mr. Fouts and his team responded promptly, came out quickly, were reasonably priced and able to start right away. The entire support of the house was done in under two weeks. The floors are even, nothing jiggles as you walk through it and my kitchen looks brand new now that there's no massive dip in the center of it. I cannot say enough good things about the work they did. My house feels so much better. Great work and great people. Highly recommended. Thanks for your patience and explanations of the work.

Our dog had chewed up most of the door trim in our home, and also a few spots of drywall (he was so cute though!). Justin came out to check out the damage and quoted us to repair the damage. The quote was timely and fairly priced. Justin was able to start the work quickly and finished quickly with little disruption to our normal routine. The trim and drywall look fantastic. You can't even tell that it is not original to the home. He worked quickly, quietly, and cleaned up any mess that was created. He left no materials or mess behind. In addition to above after craftsmanship, my husband and I genuinely enjoyed Justin's company while in our home. He was very friendly and seemed to truly enjoy what he was doing. He is just one of those guys you can't help but trust and like.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
