There are probably a hundred restaurants closer to my home than the Local, yet I usually make the extra drive across town and wind up in a booth by the bar. The food is never less than outstanding -- locally-sourced ingredients inventively prepared by people who care about delicious, attractively-plated food. The menu has wonderful old favorites and also interesting specials inspired by seasonal foods and Craig's boundless creativity. The wine and beer selections are reasonable and carefully selected, and the cocktail are terrific. The staff is uniformly friendly, efficient, and informed. Superior ownership and management attract superior employees in this case. It is rare to find first-rate food in such a warm and casual atmosphere -- sans drama and pretense. It is obvious that Craig and Derek started the Local with careful planning -- a thoughtful philosophy about fresh, seasonal ingredients, cooked and served with care by people who are serious about food. I have never had even a mediocre meal there, and cannot recommend it any more highly! I would give them 10 times more stars if I could!
