It started with junk removal from a bathroom remodel. He was on time and did as agreed on the junk pickup. I got to know Luke and what his abilities are as far as carpentry, drywalling, and light electrical and plumbing. As I progress on the remodeling I plan to utilize him on the framing of the shower, drywalling, and the hooking up of the plumbing. My first impression of Luke was excellent.

Sean was quick, courteous, and professional. He did an awesome job for us in replacing drywall in the laundry room and garage. Matched paint perfectly. He also replaced a dryer plug for us and hooked our new refrigerator line up for us. I would highly recommend using Sean. We will definitely be calling on him again in the near future!

Jon did a great job on our living room, it has very high ceilings and I was not brave enough to try to paint it. He also patched drywall (some pretty large spots) and it looks flawless! It's like a new room! I would definitely recommend him.

Our church in Carmel, IN recently had Shield Coatings LLC remove a large amount of wall covering/drywall, installed new covering/drywall, re-plastered our ceiling and applied a beautiful new paint job as well. The job was completed on time and at a reasonable price. Our church members love it. The Shield Coatings staff was professional and I would highly recommend this company for any of your paint and drywall needs. Sincerely, Church Deacon

Zach did a great job! I had him tear out part of my ceiling and replace some plumbing due to a shower leak on the 2nd floor. He then replaced the ceiling drywall and was able to match the pattern on the ceiling to make it look brand new. He was very nice and personable. Zach was able to work around my crazy work schedule and was able to come when I needed him to. He is also very reasonably priced. He charged almost half of what another contractor quoted me. I would definitely recommend hiring Zach.

James is awesome. Not only did he complete my job perfectly, he was committed fully to it until it was satisfactorily done even though it was a relatively small drywall project for him. And, on top of that, he was in close contact the full time and happy to work around my schedule. I would absolutely recommend James, not just as a great drywall guy, but as a dependable person overall.

I gave them a long list of things to do, they have done everything. Some of the items on my list were drywall patching, touch up paint, install some new outlet plugs, caulking, repair fence gate and a lot more items. They are professional, neat, knowledgeable, and quick. They get the job done. I am very pleased with their work. I plan to use them in the future.

He showed up and gave me a written estimate and performed the job as expected. He repaired my leaking roof and even applied some drywall mud where it had leaked ( which was not part of the estimate). He stands behind his work and so far no problems, I hope there are none but I know he will come and fix it if there is. Highly recommend his services. Very nice guy who explains everything he's doing and everything he has done.

Doug is a high quality, high integrity and trustworthy good guy. He also happens to be an amazing general contractor. Great value. Extremely diligent and his attention to detail is unmatched. We will be using him for many jobs around our home from flooring, to drywall repair, electrical and general repair. He's also well connected with a number of other service providers (plumbers, electricians) that he was able to mobilize for our project. We are so lucky to have found him. Thanks Thumbtack. Thank Doug!!!

My wife and I were extremely pleased with the results of our kitchen and bath remodel that Richard and his helper Billy completed in our home. In the bathroom, a new, tiled full shower with a glass partition and door, tile on the floor, a new vanity with a quartz top and all associated plumbing was magnificently done by Richard. All drywall, cieling replastering and painting was done also. In the kitchen and dining area, entryway, and utility room, the floor was taken down to subfloor and all new tile was installed. This included the removal of the water softener and hot water heater before tiling. Tile base board was fixed in place where visible as well. In the dining area, as Richard took up the flooring, he discovered water damage to the floor that reached floor joists and band board immediately beneath a defective patio door to outside. As soon as I ordered a new patio entry door, Richard very happily removed the old door, repaired and replaced and reinstalled rotten band board, joists and subflooring beneath the door. With this solid structure restored, Richard then installed the new patio door, along with outside trim flashing and sheet metal. Once this was resolved, Richard went back to finishing tile installation in our kitchen, with tile base board, in our laundry closet and pantry. Richard even wired in a new light fixture in our pantry. Richard then installed our new cabinets, including an island, completely replumbed the kitchen for a relocated sink and dishwasher hookup, and rewired our former has stove area to take an electric stove, preserving the gas service to boot. The kitchen was also extensively rewired for many more and newer lighting fixtures, including a nifty rope light system under the upper cabinets! Overall, my wife and I were extremely pleased with the results of our kitchen and bath remodel that Richard and his helper Billy completed. As a machinist by trade, I recognize and appreciate Richard's dedication to his craftsmanship and also Richard's personal commitment to excellence in practicing his trade as a master carpenter. Richard handled a wide array of added on work and necessary repair work that raised its ugly head during the course of this project with patience and easy confidence. Anyone considering Richard's services should feel the the same maximum degree of confidence and respect for his abilities that my wife and I feel towards Richard and his helper Billy. I recommend Richard to the highest degree possible to anyone considering his services. I thank you, Richard for your hard work and outstanding craftsmanship in our project.

I met with T & T Painting to get a quote for a drywall and painting job. They arrived on time and were very professional and personable. I enjoyed talking with Mrs. Trina while the men "talked shop"! They presented that they would be able to meet our requested last minute deadline...which was amazing. We did not choose them in the end ONLY because the price was more than our budget, but I will definitely keep them in mind for future projects!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

      • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
      • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

      • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
      • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
      • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
