Introduction: My name is Marck M. Miller (once Mark Alan Miller), and I am a 34-year-old artist from Indianapolis, residing currently with my wife and daughter in Irvington. I lived in Chicago while attending art school, earning a degree in Fine Art. Since I was quite young, my family steadfastly supported any creative efforts I made, and with that support I have had time to teach myself (and learn from a number of other amazing artists) a wide variety of creative skills and techniques. I believe all people are born artists, and that for several reasons, most of us are talked out of believing our art is valid, valuable, or vital. I seek to help people get started, or enliven their existing creative efforts in the following categories of make/making." Attached are several pieces I have done within the realm of visual art. Have you ever felt drawn to exploring any of the following? I would be eager to hear about your interest, as well as any ideas, you may have about what you would potentially like to accomplish in the areas including the following: * Drawing [pencil, pen and ink, colored pencil] * Painting [watercolor, oil, acrylic, airbrush, spray enamel, gouache, tempera] * Digital photography [Photoshop/GIMP, etc.] * Sculpture [traditional and found-object] * Collage / mixed media * Audio/music production (including: what to buy for a budget of [$40 - $4,000] to put a studio together), basic bass/guitar lessons, recording/DJing/performing with Windows or Linux software * DIY electronics [circuit bending, kit-building/soldering, hardware hacking, arduino / beaglebone / raspberry pi, solid state repair] * Computer stuff: Photoshop, eBay Sales [incl. photography], and finally "Not Mac or Windows? No! It's Linux!" [basic skills, installation, maintenance] Some of these, such as drawing and painting, as well as photography, I have been fairly immersed in as long as I can remember. Other areas, such as electronics and vintage refurbishing are relatively new but exciting activities for me. I perhaps differ from most art lessons most in that I am both capable of and willing to teach myself new skills alongside yourself. I attempt to introduce a sort of 'workshop' atmosphere, one in which there truly are no "stupid questions." One should feel safe to experiment, succeed, win, lose, try again, give up or fail without fear of judgment or condescension. My professional background consists largely of jobs working in the ("group") homes of inspiring men and women with a variety of mental health challenges and/or acute special needs, and my life was enriched incredibly by working for and with these folks. I am willing to teach children age 10 and up if they are reasonably patient and eager to learn, and come with a parent present or very nearby. Basically, all are welcome. I also am happy to teach a small group, less than ten or so preferred. I come to you, in most cases. I can provide a small amount of materials initially in order to share new mediums with artists unsure whether to invest their money in, for example, an airbrush setup. In terms of content or style, my experience (as you can see) runs the gamut between realistic drawing and painting and the strange, detailed, conceptual drawings that are of my own creation. I enjoy and am passionate about drawing and painting in all its forms, and my fairly rigorous training at art school (Columbia College, Chicago) included courses in still life, figure drawing/painting, as well as more contemporary painting and illustration practices. I currently am concentrating on letter design and traditional sign painting, as well as my more esoteric fine art work. Feel free to email, text, or call my number (Indianapolis area code) with any questions and to inquire about my fees. Essentially, I work on a sliding scale based on my clients' income, and how much time I will want to invest in a given individual's project.
