Sherry is a wonderful trainer as well as a wonderful person. She was extremely responsive as I was able to meet with her shortly after our initial conversation. After only two sessions, I have already noticed differences in my dog's behavior and look forward to our next in home visit.

Chris transformed me and my dog, Declan’s, relationship through turbulent times. He enabled me to communicate with my dog and better shape behavior through positive reinforcement and maybe a little bit of training me. It was refreshing and fun. His enthusiasm is unmatched.

I hired Nancy about two weeks ago and so far my experience with pets and me is awesome. Nancy comes in on time with a possitive, loving attitude! My dog's Bella, and Hoodini absolutely love her with the delicious treats she provides them. While in a interview with Nancy she showed how much dignity and caring question like, if my pets have any allergies, are they up to date with vaccines, any triggers that effect them, is she able to give them any treats, are they friendly with other animals?!. I love my dog's more than anything in the world and have a hard time trusting anyone with them. Nancy proved to me that she is trustworthy, respects, and cares for my pets!. Thank you Nancy for all your hard work and dedication keep up the great work! 😃

She had a creative idea of how to occupy my puppy when I cant watch him with putting things in his kong that I wouldn't of thought. She also showed me a great way to help my puppy learn to walk on a leash without tugging. She helped me with jumping on people which I had an idea of this but it was good to hear her tell me what I thought was right. She also told me when you tell him to do a behavior and right when he does it say Yes and reward. I already knew that and was using that but I'm glad we were on the same page.

Marty is awesome! He listened to our concerns and helped to correct our dog's behavior, using positive reinforcement. He also took care of our dogs when we went on vacation. My dogs are so happy to see Marty, they shower him with kisses! I would highly recommend Marty and Black Dog K9 Training.

We like that she came to our house. We had been working with our rescue dog but got stuck with how to socialize him. She gave us the tools and training we needed so we can start the continued journey of properly socializing the dog. We needed to know how to properly put him in the beta role so he would trust us to lead the situation.

I could not ask for anyone better to care for my animals. Jazmin loves my animals like they were her own. When Mikey, my cat, was sick she has no problem giving him his medications. She spends time with them, it's not run in do what she has to do then leave, no, she spends time with them and plays with them, gives them quality time. My dog Roxy, is always excited to see her and loves her walks with Jazmin. Jazmin is concerned about their well being and what is best for them. I totally trust Jazmin and would recommend her highly. she has become part of my family. What is wonderful about Jazmin is she takes pictures when she comes and sends them to you which I love. I can not say enough about how wonder At Your Home Pet Sitting is, you can not go wrong.

Eric was awesome and his love for animals apparent in the quality of service delivered. He not only took care to ensure my dogs were well taken care of while i was on a recent business trip, but also ensured that they had fun, socialized with other animals and taught them a thing or two. I will definitely entrust my dogs with him on my next trip.

Sara provided excellent customer service; she responded immediately to me when I reached out to her, answered all of my questions, notified me when she was coming to pick her up (on time!) and dropping her off (round-trip for a small fee! awesome!), and provided feedback on her behavior. My girl left happy and came back happy and fresh and clean with a cute Fall scarf! I would highly recommend her to my friends and family and we will definitely be using her soon again. Thanks Sara! :)

    About

I walk the dogs as many times needed. I work with anything. I have to feed them if needed or shower them, and I play with them.

    About

I have been working with animals for at least 16 years or more. I volunteer for many nonprofit agencies for all animals. I know animals can understand me and I understand them. It's so true! I love animals with all my heart they're the best. All they want is to be loved, and believe me, they can get depressed and can smile. Thru my years, I learned so much. If I could, I would have all the homeless animals! I train each them to walk and jog. I train them with just about everything an animal should be going through and on the other hand, what the owner should be doing is a two way road, but they can learn so, so much. I love them all so much, but I do train them, basically their needs and to see your animal needs. I'm sure you'll be happy with my results!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How old should a puppy be for training?

Dog training shouldn’t wait until you’re having behavior problems. If you get a new puppy, start from the beginning with professional training to give both you and your puppy the tools you need for a healthy relationship. Dog training is as much about teaching the owner how to interact with their new dog as it is about the dog learning to behave. Puppy training can start as early as eight weeks old. Trainers who offer puppy training programs may works specifically with dogs between the ages of 8 and 18 weeks old. Trainers can teach owners about potty training and how to deal with accidents, working with separation anxiety, and training your pooch out of destructive behaviors like chewing, biting and demand barking. Puppies will start to learn to walk on-leash and other basic skills.

In addition to behavior training, socializing your puppy is an important part of dog training. Socializing your dog means they become comfortable and confident in a variety of settings and have a great foundation for becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. After your puppy has had the proper vaccinations, you can start to introduce it to a variety of different dogs and people in safe settings.

Which dog training method is best?

The best type of dog training for both you and your dog depends on the outcomes you hope to achieve. If you want your dog to learn agility training, go to someone who specializes in those techniques. Regardless of whether you want your dog to learn basic behavior or competitive-level tricks, the majority of dog training is actually about training the owner how to communicate with their dog. Most professional dog trainers agree that a model of training based on positive reinforcement breeds a happy, healthy, well-adjusted dog. The alternative to positive reinforcement training is using force or aggression techniques like physical punishment or shock-collar training to get the dog to do (or not do) a behavior. While the dog may learn how to behavior as you direct, it is also learning to communicate with force and aggression, and will in turn use those behaviors on other dogs (or people) that are smaller or weaker than it is. Before signing up with a dog trainer, meet with the trainer and ask for references. Watch the trainer interact with your dog, and make sure they treat your dog with patience and firm kindness. Ask them questions about their training methods:

    • What type of training methods do you use?
    • What is your background and training, and how did you become a dog trainer?
    • How long do you expect that we will work together before we achieve the results I’m after?

How long does it take to train a puppy?

Dog training depends on the dog and how much homework the dog owner is willing to put in. Puppy training is similar to dog training in that the onus of the work depends on the owner learning new ways to interact with their dog. For a quick crash course, you can opt for a single, two hour smart-start puppy training consultation to teach you the ins and outs of being a new dog parent. You can learn how to manage potty training and what to do if the puppy experiences separation anxiety. As long as you’re willing to work on dog training a little bit each day, your puppy will quickly learn these new behaviors. If you’re not confident about training your puppy yourself, you can enroll in a 6- to 8-week puppy training course, with weekly lessons touching on everything from bite control to obedience. Puppies usually need to be at least three months old for group training classes. If you want more intensive one-on-one work, you can opt for private lessons. Some behavior problems can be resolved in one session if the dog owner learns and can implement new skills. In the case of more serious issues, 3 to 10 private sessions can typically correct challenges.
