I have been bookkeeping since 1993! Huh? How did that happen since I did all of these other things like create an interior design website for online services before they existed, I wrote a book, I killed it sales and marketing in our Invisible Fence business, I became a licensed insurance agent and I organized 1,000 event in a 5 year period!!?? But interwoven with all of these amazing careers was always bookkeeping! Every position always had some part of it that was related to bookkeeping. In 2018 something happened and I fell in love with helping businesses get organized with their bookkeeping and processes. It was then that I started honing my bookkeeping "craft." I started studying, putting processes in place and started reaching out to help people and the businesses they love. Do you keep your books like I used to? You know, the last thing of the week on Friday afternoon because it just needed done. If you are like I was, you have way too many projects, phone calls, client meetings and marketing going on to track down receipts and reconcile bank accounts. Honestly it often times waited until late January and then in a hurry the entire year was caught up so I could pay Mr. Taxman what he wanted. What I didn't realize at the time in doing "bookkeeping" this way was I: 1. paid more in taxes because I was rushed and had to amend returns 2. never really knew when my good months were vs. my okay months 3. left client money on the table because I didn't verify they paid correct amounts on time 4. was so stressed out from this Rottweiler breathing down my neck and it effected EVERYTHING! Didn’t you start your business to help people & to create a better quality of life for yourself & your family. Let me help you get that Rottweiler off your back! • How often do you need someone helping you? Once, weekly, monthly or quarterly? • Do you need payroll or 1099 services? How many people do you have? Under 5, over 5? I can help! • What about customized reporting & chart of accounts so you know where the revenue you worked so hard to earn is going? **Bookkeeping Software** I use QuickBooks Online because it gives you REAL TIME access to your data at your fingertips, no matter where you are, right now, 3AM and maybe in your bathroom. If you use something else I can help you get set up in QBO. **Here's How I Help** I specifically support insurance agencies, short & long term rental owners, therapy related professionals & small businesses! • Categorization of all transactions so you know its done • Reconciling accounts because we need to check that banks are right • Entering bills & attaching receipts so you know exactly what you spent • Entering invoices, payments & deposits so you always know if they paid • Customized reports to help you understand the numbers & make powerful decisions • Payroll support because if they don’t get paid they are not coming to work • Helping with "catch" up or clean-up so you have a clean start • Periodic updates so you can run your business in real time • One-on-one planning & accountability sessions so that ALL of this makes sense to you • Email support for those nagging questions at 3AM, you know the ones that wake you up **Working With Me** We start with a QBO CheckUp, send me a message to begin.See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an accountant?

Accountants are financial professionals who have received an accounting degree from a four-year university or college. By trade, accountants prepare, maintain and examine the financial statements of an individual, business or institution. An accountant prepares reports for tax purposes and can also perform audits of public companies. Common tasks include creating budgets, analyzing profits and losses of a company, processing payroll, preparing financial statements for company leadership, and creating and maintaining financial database systems for a company.

Accountants do not automatically have a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation unless they have passed the Uniform CPA Examination and received the proper license. Regardless of whether they are CPA certified or not, accountants can assist businesses and individuals with bookkeeping and financial reporting, while CPAs are more knowledgeable in tax codes as a result of the CPA licensing examination and continuing education requirements. CPAs are also eligible to represent clients before the IRS if audit support is required, while a non-CPA accountant is not. Academic background, years in the field and professional reputation all can affect an accountant’s rates.

How much does it cost to hire an accountant?

Accountants’ rates vary based on their education, licenses, experience, and the work for which they are being hired. An accountant may charge an hourly rate when a company or individual needs their services on a short-term basis, such as when performing an audit or requesting assistance setting up a financial database or process. Hourly rates can range as widely as $40 per hour to $300 or more per hour, depending on your geographic location and the accountant. Accountants may offer a package rate for weekly, monthly or annual services to reward ongoing customers. Many accountants offer online services where small businesses can access online accounting software and payroll assistance, and the accountant — for a monthly or other recurring fee — provides financial analysis and reporting of their numbers. For basic monthly accounting services, an accountant might charge anywhere from $75 to $500 or more, depending on what was included in a given package, the size of the client’s business, and the complexity of work requested. Nationally, full-time staff accountants earn between $40,000 and $80,000, depending on experience and other factors.

Who licenses CPAs?

The Board of Accountancy for your state or district licenses certified public accountants (CPAs). When searching for a CPA to help you with your finances or taxes, make sure they are properly licensed in your state. Here are a few tools you can use to verify an accountant’s license:

You can also ask an accountant to provide proof of their license and credentials.

What do CPAs do?

According to the American Institute of CPAs, certified public accountant (CPAs) financially advise individuals, big companies and small businesses to help them reach their financial goals. For example, they can consult you on taxes and other accounting needs.

What do forensic accountants do?

Forensic accountants investigate financial crimes involving fraud, embezzlement and other issues. They often work closely with law enforcement and lawyers, and they can help determine the legality of financial activities, according to the BLS.
