I'm not sure my review came through so I will post again. I was very satisfied with John Mark Power. What he promised came through in time and workmanship. I had a dining room table and chairs refinished and repairs. My furniture looks like brand new. My set was purchased in 1977. I was unsure if to get rid of it or have it refinished and parts fixed that had come loose. I am so glad I decided to have the work done instead. I was very impressed with the time frame I was given and it was met. His workmanship was above all others. I would highly recommend John Mark Power for restoration services. I am one very happy client.
The strong positive is that Steve did a fantastic job repairing the leg of a club chair that had split and broken off. It looks as though it had never been broken and this is why I gave him 5 stars. I'd hire him again for future furniture repair needs. It was, however, hard to connect with him because he seems to be in extremely high demand. In the future, I'd probably bring my repair to his workshop and pick it up myself. But there is no doubt he's good at what he does.
I hired Rob to help me with various tasks around my new apartment, from installing a TV mount and mounting the TV to putting together some furniture, and some other tasks. He was excellent, thorough, and efficient. He went out of his way to help me with some small problems that I was having, such as a back flow faucet and some fluorescent light mounts in the kitchen. We strategized on several additional future tasks as I definitely plan to hire him again. I was very pleased with his competence and his expertise. I recommend him highly. I have also just recommended him to a friend.
Brian was the kindest of contractors I have met in a long time. He really put time and care into refinishing my cherry kitchen table. I wanted a darker finish and to keep the wood grain visible. He was able to accomplish this and give new life to my 20 year old family table. He kept me informed of his progress and delivered exactly what I asked for.
I brought Craig three pieces of antique furniture to repair: my great-grandmother's Eastlake chair and side table, and an expanding table. I wish I had before pictures - all three pieces were badly scratched up. The expanding table had been previously repaired incorrectly, and had a wobbly leg. Craig restored each piece to its former beauty. I hope they will be pieces I can share with my grandchildren. Craig communicated clearly my options at each step - he gave his recommendation but was not pushy. He was committed to my project and took painstaking care to finish the details of these pieces in the correct way. Craig also helped me to coordinate an upholsterer for the chair. An overall excellent job by Craig. Four months later I am still fully satisfied. Thaddeus
Anthony is a fine young man. Courteous, responsive, focused on getting the job done and he is creative...will try different ideas and share his ideas and input to get the best result. He has done everything from putting together furniture, installing bathroom fixtures, hanging pictures, fixing minor stuff and helping us unpack after our move. I highly recommend him. I will use him often
Cathy did a great job touching up my designer wood desk after it was chipped in a couple places. She touched up my desk and it looks new again.
I first met Ron for a custom home office desk project. I had seen a picture of a wonderful contemporary design, but it was too large for my space. Ron was able to do a reproduction to my exact demensions, Walnut species and expresso stain. It' is truly beautiful and something I will have for years. He took the time to send me sketches, come out to show me wood and stain samples, and delivered on-time as promised. Everyone who has seen this piece has complimented it and inquired as to where I got it - I refer them to Ron. We were so thrilled with the results of the desk, we called Ron for a second project - stripping and refinishing a credenza to match the desk he built. We received the same great service. If you are looking for fine wood furniture, you will not be disappointed with Ron!
I gave Carlos a very complex job of renovating a large antique Japanese tansu (a large chest). It involved removing all the (lots!, over 30 pieces) hardware, painting it black, repairing the locks that were frozen open, and reattaching each piece of hardware, finishing the front with Scotts Liquid Gold (rubbed in oil finish), painting top and sides, building a new back for the chest to enlarge it (antique chests commonly shrink on the sides) so that drawers that would not close now close beautifully. He was careful to plan the pickup and delivery with me so that I could reserve the freight elevator (high rise building). Overall a job done carefully and with careful communication to answer questions during the process.

Job was to strip paint from three wooden doors. There were multiple coats of paint, and it ended up taking longer than estimated, but the doors look great, and we are very pleased.
When the time came for us to list our rental home for sale, Stephanie helped us select our color scheme for repainting our walls and replacing the carpet. We knew it would be shown while vacant, so we needed the wall & carpet colors to coordinate well with the colors of the kitchen cabinets, granite counters & tile backsplash. The color tone we used when we originally chose our cabinets, tile & granite were based on beige color tones, but we wanted to update the home using todays modern grey colors. Stephanie was able to select grey tones that coordinated perfectly with our existing cabinets, granite & tile. Our home looked modern & current! We went under contract in less than a month, in an area that usually takes much longer to sell! Stephanie did a great job, and we really appreciated her interior decorating skill and eye for modernizing our home. I would highly recommend Stephanie if in need of a professional interior decorator!
I fell in love with an 18th century furniture and wanted to make a piece for myself, knowing that I couldn't afford one. So, I studied 18th century to modern furniture making, wood carving, upholstery and finishing all over the country. This led me into a career in furniture restoration.

Sand Hill Antiques & Refinishing has been in business for 15 years I worked for the prior owner part time and purchased the business 7 years ago. I have seen other re-finishers work and inquired as to what products they use. I use commercial, professional products that cannot be purchased by hobbyist's. I apply at least 3 coats of lacquer as the final finish (protective).
