Candace and Dave are great! It's been about a month since Dave came out to take care of our bed bug problem, and haven't seen any since. He's scheduled to come out this weekend for our follow up visit, this is included in the original price no additional cost. Both are very knowledgeable, quick to return texts and phone calls, an all around pleasure to work with in a stressful situation. AIso very reasonably priced. I highly recommend.

Let me start by saying that I am one of the pickiest, most difficult, most bug paranoid clients around!, yet Les exceeded my highest expectations! I thought I had bed bugs (thank God Les confirmed I did not), and hadn't slept in days! Les came over the same day I called him, spent hours inspecting my home and treated only what he felt I needed to treat, vs. other companies which scare you into treating your entire home for no reason! He is beyond knowledgeable and truly ethical to the core. It's almost like he does this work to bring peace and comfort to people vs. for the money! Needless to say I slept like a baby last night!!! I will be having Les come back in the spring to treat the outside of my home as well as my neighbors homes who now all want to hire him. Do not think twice, do not even consider calling anyone else, there is no one better for the job! Thank you Les for your extraordinary service!

Marvin came out within an hour of me calling him after seeing his quote on Thumbtack. He was very thorough while searching for signs of a bed bug infestation and applied a spray pesticide to my entire home to kill any bugs that might have slipped through the visual inspection. Marvin's very knowledgable and very willing to work with a homeowner/tenant to help solve their pest problem.

Joe took care of my bed bug issue fast and effectively. On top of it, he provided so much value by educating me about preventative measures for other potential bug and rodent issues in my 10 unit apartment complex. I definitely recommend using him. He's punctual, honest, affordable, effective, and just a great friend to have on your team whether you have issues in your single family home or larger multi-family property.

Richard was wonderful !!! I was very worried I had bed bugs and he came out the very next day for a free inspection. He was friendly and obviously new what he was doing. He educated me about the proses, what to look for and how to Provent them as he did a thorough surch. He was very patient with all my questions and my 2 year old who really wanted to help him. I never felt he was in a rush. The surch came up clean but he still sent me an email full of information to provent bed bugs. I just couldn't be more pleased. If we ever do get bed bugs he is defiantly my go to man. Thank you so much Richard I will defiantly get a good night sleep now :0)

We had to call Regional after another company couldn't get rid of my bud bugs! We ended up spending so much money with the first company after they came out on three different instances and the bugs still weren't gone! Regional came out as scheduled, had their bed bug dog run through our home to pinpoint problem areas that weren't treated before, and then used their heat chamber. After one treatment we were finally bed bug free! The dog even came back a week after the treatment to confirm we were free of the bugs for good! Regional was prompt, extremely knowledgeable, and very professional. I wish we had gone with them to begin with and highly recommend them!

We called Adam in June, 2016, because we had bed bugs. We tried DIY methods for over a month. When the bugs traveled from one room to another, we knew we weren't winning the battle. Of the companies that were referred to us, Adam Johnson Pest Control was the only one that specialized in bed bugs. We felt we needed to go straight to the experts. When Adam and Penny came to our home, they explained, in detail, what they would be doing and how their treatments worked. They told us that getting rid of bed bugs is not an easy task...it is not a once and done treatment. They have been back for scheduled re-treatments, and we are scheduled for another treatment this month. Bed bugs are ridiculously hard to get rid of. They hid, they hibernate, they can go for months without feeding. After more than three weeks with no sightings, we just recently saw two. As upsetting as this is, we are seeing progress. Two in three weeks is progress from when we started. Adam Johnson Pest Control is an honest, straight-forward company that explains the problem, explains the treatment, and keeps in touch with their clients. When we have needed to contact them, they respond to emails, phone calls, text messages very promptly. I would not wish bed bugs on anyone. I would recommend Adam Johnson Pest Control to everyone.

He came for a free inspection of my car. He gave it a good once over and determined that I didn't have bed bugs and wouldn't need his service. He was on time, professional and answered all my questions. I'm glad I didn't need his services but I would have hired him if need be.

I had to stay in one of the hotels in South California for my business trip. When I got back home I noticed some bug bites on me. I started to worry that I brought bed bugs home after noticing the bites. I called AtOnce Pest and spoke with Marc who immediately made me feel better. He took his time to explain how bed bugs travel, how long it takes for infestation to develop, and how it can be treated. He explained that heat treatment is the most effective treatment available today. I preferred it over using chemical treatments. He came in the next day and thoroughly inspected the bedroom. He lifted a king size mattress and box spring for his inspection with a special light. He also inspected the baseboards and carpet for any signs of bed bugs. While heat treatment is generally effective, not all professionals know how to do it properly. To protect your home and get rid of the problem, call AtOnce for help.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How much does it cost to kill bed bugs?

The cost of bed bug extermination depends primarily on how widespread the pest infestation is and how many rooms need to be treated. Other factors that can affect bed bug extermination costs are the amount of clutter in the location, additional furniture that needs to be treated, and construction of the home. Pest management professionals often have rates for room treatments, which can vary based on these factors. As an example, a pest management company treating a 10-by-15-foot room with light infestation might charge clients about $250, while the same size room with a heavy infestation and large amounts of clutter might cost the clients $300-$400. Clutter and heavier bed bug populations mean more product and longer labor time for the workers. Rates will vary from company to company, and from region to region, but the national average bed bug extermination cost is $320-$400. Bed bug heat treatments are an alternative way to exterminate these pests. Heat treatments are typically charged per square foot and tend to cost more than chemical or non-chemical spray solutions. Although effective, they are not usually recommended for occupied spaces, as the extreme temperatures can damage televisions, window dressings and other home furnishings.

Can you see a bed bug?

Bed bugs are visible to the naked eye, but depending on where they are in their life cycle they can be hard to see. Adult bed bugs are the easiest to spot. According to the EPA, they are roughly the size of an apple seed and the height of a credit card. Adults are flat and oval-shaped, have six legs, and are rusty red in color. Bed bug larvae, also referred to as nymphs, are white-yellow or translucent in color and are much harder to spot due to their small size. The nymphs go through five stages of life, shedding an exoskeleton at each stage. Throughout these stages the nymphs grow in size from approximately 1.5 millimeters to approximately 4.5 millimeters. Bed bug eggs can be the most challenging to see as they are roughly 1 millimeter — about the size of a pinhead — and are white or clear. Bed bugs tend to be more active at night, as this is when they feed.

How do you check for bed bugs?

If you are concerned you have a bed bug infestation, look for physical signs of their presence. Bed bugs love to hide in small, dark spaces and typically come out to feed (generally on human blood) after dark — although they will come out in daylight if hungry enough. The Environmental Protection Agency states that indications of an infestation can include seeing shed exoskeletons of bed bugs, rusty spots on your bedding (which are either bug droppings or bloodstains), live bed bugs, bed bug egg casings, a sweet and musty odor (if the infestation is severe), and evidence of bites on your skin.

To spot bed bugs, look in and along mattress seams and bedding, in curtain and furniture folds, inside cracks or crevices in the walls, behind picture frames and mirrors, under loose wallpaper seams, on recently used luggage or backpacks, inside electronics, and inside clothing or cluttered areas such as closets. If you see signs of bed bugs, be careful not to disturb them too much as you don’t want them scattering to other parts of your house.
