Top Rated Beginner Hatha Yoga Instructors Around Ashburn, VA
Gaurav is a patient and knowledgable yoga instructor. I am a beginner and he has been intuitive in understanding my struggles and recognizing how to help me move forward in the discipline. He has been very accommodating to come to my residence for the sessions. I am also participating in his nutritional guidance which is complementary to the yoga training.
I used to hate Yoga, until I started taking class with Melissa. Her classes are a great workout, and you feel both relaxed and enthused afterwards. People have started telling me I look amazing, and the only difference is Melissa's yoga class. I can not recommend her enough.
Welcome to your Wellness has an excellent atmosphere. As a beginner you will not feel intimidated at all. The instructor is very friendly has a very nourishing attitude. And the one thing that I love she has a soothing voice that will put your mind at ease. Highly recommend Welcome to your Wellness yoga anyone!!
For 10 years I have practiced Iyengar yoga with Olga, so I learned to appreciate when Olga spends a lot of time discussing alignment, and the reasons behind why we do certain sequences of poses. Olga has vast knowledge in different areas, and I trust that the class is well thought out with certain goals in mind. This trust helps me to surrender my doubts and leave it in the hands of professional. I walk out every week with the tools and skills to advance in yoga practice, feel great, restored and rejuvenated.
Imagine Yoga & Meditation is an LLC in Manassas, VA that regularly offers group classes in hatha yoga and meditation. We also provide private instruction in any yoga style of your choice. Private clientele may come to our studio for their sessions, or we can come to you, so you can learn in the comfort of your home. Our business was founded with a unique sense of yoga as an art form all its own. As a musician who creates music via his instrument, the yogi creates new worldviews from the instrument of the human nervous system. We believe wholeheartedly in the ability of this art to reinvigorate the creative being, the artist, who lives in us all.
I am a motivated yoga teacher with an objective to enable students to experience the benefits of a balanced yoga practice. I lay strong emphasis on alignment and attuning to body's natural wisdom, when tying to guide students into a deeper awareness of intelligent movement as a meditative art. Passionate about yoga, I am always joyful when practicing or teaching yoga and exploring creative ways to impart that joy to students also.
I've been a happy customer of Sonja Boggs since 2014. I'm a burn survivor and have really appreciated the rehabilitative powers of yoga long after my burn scars have healed. Now I keep going to Sonja because it keeps me more limber and feeling better all around, especially Sunday nights after her class. Sonja's yoga style is perfect for beginners through advanced and she reads pleasant proverbs and such during your 3 to 5 minute stretches to further your appreciation of being good to your body and soul. She now teaches in Purcerville and I drive 30 minutes from Ashburn for her Sunday 4:15 class because it is one of the highlights of my week.
Krissee has given me several private yoga sessions. She is intuitive & instructive about what my body needs. Her meditative reminders keep me in the moment while her cues through each pose remind me of my alignment. When I need to built strength she pushes me to work harder. Yoga with Krissee always leaves me refreshed and sore in all the right places. I have also had the pleasure of her SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) expertise. She watched my beginner strokes and guided me through correct paddling positions, moving slowing as well as in windy conditions, turns and even a few yoga poses on the board. Her photography is stunning. Krissee is a DC local and knows many hidden gems depending on what type of a backdrop you are interested in. She is a mother of 3 and familiar with capturing them with her lens whether coaxing an expression or candids in motion. In any of her many hats Krissee is a great choice for the job!
Having NEVER done Yoga before, I wanted to start with private lessons prior to attending a class at a studio. Elizabeth was great as she introduced me to the basics of yoga and each session reviewed the previous session to ensure I was doing it correctly. She would send me "homework " which were photos and step-by-step directions to achieve the various poses and flow. I am ready to start a class after only a few sessions. I had flexibility issues especially in my right side and she would always work with me to strengthen that area - not avoid it. I would recommend Elizabeth and will most likely do another series to compliment the studio classes.
I like to incorporate philosophy into my yoga practice. I will explain to my students how strength, flexibility and balance on their mat can be directly applied to their daily life. They will find strength within themselves during tough situations, balance in their life, reduce the amount of stress and finding joy in spontaneity and flexibility.
Erika taught to a group of mixed level students (complete beginner's to experienced students) with clarity and thoughtfulness.
I've taken classes with Jackie a number of times through goodyoga in Brooklyn, NY. Indoor, outdoor, morning, afternoon-- Jackie was a great instructor at all times. As a complete beginner with very little knowledge of pose names or how to go about moving my body, Jackie was incredibly helpful and patient in her explanations and in her adjustments. She was attentive and seemed to always know when I needed some help or feedback. Her classes were easy to follow and varied enough to keep me interested. Jackie also has a pleasant, calming demeanor about her, and is easy to talk to. I'd highly recommend her for one-on-one sessions or in a larger class setting. It's clear Jackie genuinely loves yoga and is knowledgeable about it, and her enthusiasm spreads.
I consider myself very fortunate in finding Hillary Blackton as my teacher. She has several years of teaching experience and that shows. In my opinion, she has the right approach to teaching yoga. This is a class for the body, mind, and soul. Being a first timer with yoga, and with many problems like stiff neck, shoulders, back, and knees, Hillary has led me through her classes with humor, encouragement, and patience. The one thing that I appreciate most about her classes is the systematic manner in which she prepares her students for poses (asanas) by first stretching and then strengthening the required muscle groups. Her classes are small enough for the individual attention I need. There is a good balance of stretching, strengthening, increasing flexibility, and meditation. These classes have improved my quality of life considerably and I intend to continue yoga classes with Hillary Blackton.
You HAVE to experience YOGA by Brittney! Not only is Brittney the best teacher I've ever had; because of her extensive knowledge of every aspect of the yoga practice. But, she is also a truly talented spiritual teacher and divine light. Brittney has overcome addiction and other debilitating obstales in life. Which has consequenctly, made her such an understanding teacher and guide who meets you wherever you are on your spiritual path. She teaches in away that transcends the typical compilation of poses/postures, and rather breathes energy and life force into the soul. Truly talented and a blessing in the life of those she teaches!!☮💛🙌
Gretchen Schutte is an outstanding yoga teacher. I have taken both classes and workshops with her at Inner Power Yoga in Sterling, VA, and each time I walk away feeling so grateful to have met her and honored to be in her classes. Not only is she an expert on several different types of yoga (vinyasa, nidra, yin), but she is one of the most accessible people I have ever met. She makes all of her students feel comfortable, is willing to help in any way, and creates a safe and peaceful space to explore your yoga practice. After a confusing session in yoga nidra at another studio, I signed up for a workshop Gretchen was leading on nidra practice. Not only was the session amazing, but she also made the effort to meet me before the workshop to see if she could help me to better understand the practice and to dispel the confusion I had found with another teacher. Gretchen is simply one of the best, and I look forward to every single opportunity I have to take her classes. She is the real deal and an A+++
Megan has been a student of yoga since 2008. Since then, a steady, grounded and ever-evolving yoga practice has brought stability and calm to her otherwise hectic days. Megan taught her first yoga classes while working overseas in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan. After returning to Washington, DC, she completed teacher training and registered as an RYT-200 with Yoga Alliance. For students, Megan incorporates precise asana, gentle pranayama and simple meditation into a well-rounded practice. Her approach to yoga is influenced by her teachers, long and diverse traditions of vinyasa and Iyengar yoga, and her personal experience. Students can expect each class to be both challenging and accessible.
This evening I took Natasha's yoga class at LaFitness. This was my first time in her class of which I was impressed. She knew her moves and poses and gave good instruction. Will be attending her class.
Alla welcomes students of all levels with open arms--from beginner to advanced! Her yoga sessions are extraordinary! Alla has been practicing yoga for 9 years and has 500 hours of instructor experience. Much to my delight she incorporates teaching yogi philosophy and explains the origins behind some of their techniques/traditions. She gently assists students with pose corrections and provides movement/placement options for those who may have physical limitations. The atmosphere in her sessions is relaxing, coupled with her soothing voice, allows students to maintain focus on their practice. Alla inspired me to try more difficult poses I typically would not have attempted which helped me improve my practice. I highly recommend Alla--she will help you reach your yoga practice goals!
I went to Mariko's yoga class regularly and under her guidance has help me gain not only strength and flexibility but also a deeper understanding of yoga. She is able to adapt her approach to a class based on the skill level of the folks attending and in mixed level classes is able still keep it challenging for more experienced individuals while not making the less experienced ones feel put off or intimidated. She is also able to communicate the yogic philosophy in a realistic or approachable manner, meaning she's able to help her students apply it to daily life and encourages use of the yoga skills off the mat. I've also had hair salon services with Mariko. She takes the time to listen to what your vision is and helps work with your hair's texture to create something perfect just for you. Scheduling was flexible and I just absolutely LOVED my style!! I would totally recommend Mariko in both salon and yoga services! She listens to her customers, cares about their needs and delivers nothing but the BEST!!!
When you think of yoga you think a bunch of boring posing that you do to help stretch your body. When i experienced a yoga class with LaQuesha I got so much more. LaQuesha has a awesome personality and very free spirited which makes yoga with her amazing. She combines a mixture of physical and mental relaxation. If you are having trouble with the poses, or stretches she is there to provide guidance to ensure you are getting the best out of your experience. My first time in one of LaQuesha classes I was amazed to find out that this was not something she has been doing for years. She is very confident in her work and knowledgeable as well. So if you want to do a beginners, intermidiate or a full body yoga workout LaQuesha would be a great choice.
I've been practicing yoga since 2001 (teaching since 2011) and I've had the great fortune to study with a number of amazing teachers. Marni is one of them, I've been practicing with her for ~2 years now. Marni is a seasoned and wise teacher who inspires her students with a vast amount of knowledge, experience, and positive outlook related to yoga and overall holistic wellness. From a physical/fitness/health standpoint, Marni is the best teacher I have ever studied with when it comes to structuring a class around postures that engage, strengthen, and lengthen muscles. It amazes me the way Marni finds and queues ways for her students to find their own alignment and strength in each pose. She knows alignment principles very well and brings in a component of creativity to every class. I find new ways to build strength and flexibility in each class I attend with her. In addition, Marni brings in many additional layers to her classes including amazing stories (some of the best stories I have heard during a yoga class!), a vast knowledge of yoga/eastern philosophy, a focus on connecting and opening the heart space, poetry, and even live music to her classes - she generally ends classes playing the harmonium and singing to her students in savasana (resting pose). In closing, Marni is an amazing yoga teacher with depth, clarity, knowledge and an infectious smile. I hope more and more people have a chance to study with her. As a yoga teacher myself, I look up to her and learn so much from each and every class I attend. I hope and plan that one day soon my schedule will allow me to take a teacher training session with her.
