There was no fuss or stress with Baku Moving – the guys know their work to perfection and wouldn’t stop till everything is done. In 6 days, they moved me and my family from Maryland to Georgia and I got to say that this was the most laid back moving in my life, and the most cost effective for sure.

We required a DEEP clean after 5 months of renovations where the contractors didn’t do a good job with dust containment. The two ladies came in and did a tremendous job cleaning, getting into each corner and focusing on getting the house in perfect shape. They worked incredibly hard and we were so grateful. I would recommend them to anyone who asks!

Eastbay was punctual and even early for the project on a Sunday morning. The crew moved fast all my furniture and boxes. They were flexible and patient with the unexpected set backs in the building where I move to. Very pleasant crew.

I'm so glad I hired PROAH to help me with a moving. Bede and his guy were great, he answered my messages immediately whenever I contacted him, and the day of the moving they arrived at my place early. They did the whole move (1 bedroom apartment) very quick and diligently. I totally recommend their services and would use them again in the future if necessary.

I've moved about 5 times in the last 3 years for work so it was always paid for. I was moving from Bethesda to Silver Spring MD. This company was responsive, customer service was great and the guys.......professional definitely, on time, quick and respected my home and belongings. It was a big move for me 3br House to another, they packed everything and protected everything in my home and I paid a flat hourly rate that included all of it. That was great to have.... after reading all the horror stories, while trying to find a company. This was the first time I had to find a moving company I moved on April 14, 2012 and had a great experience with move and felt comfortable with them in my home. When I put my information on the Internet for a moving estimate....oh.... I could not believe how many responses I received, 20 different companies and 100 calls. I did my research, checked ratings, reviews and of course... the BBB.

we had a particularly challenging move with a difficult set up in the apartment building we were moving out of. We also had two stops to drop off some furniture on the way to our final destination. A1 was cooperative and helpful. One of our stops involved a third floor apartment with stairs and a very difficult doorway. The team spent a lot of time coaxing the sofa into the apartment. They went above and beyond. they were punctual and the price was reasonable. I would highly recommend them and would use them again.

On a 1-10 scale with 10 a perfect score, Ground Force One Moving is an 11! Richard and his partner were professional, courteous, punctual, and performed flawlessly. They were hired to pick up and return a 350 lb. elliptical machine to a store. They protected the floor with blankets, carefully avoided hitting doorways, and placed it where the store manager requested. With confidence, I highly recommend this family owned and operated moving business for all your moving needs, small or large.

Charlie and his team were awesome. I needed movers last minute for moving my 1bedroom apartment into another and he was able to move me the very next day. They were extremely friendly which I loved, and they had a great system to get everything done quickly. They really worked well together which made my moving process so smooth and quick. I already referred him to a family member who needs help moving equipment for his business (big job) :-) I will hire these great group of professionals again!

The movers were on time (early even). They were very careful with all my items. Did a great job packing everything into a storage facility for short term. The move took longer than hoped but that is mostly due to the length of the building which I was moving out of. There was a lot of walking from my unit to the elevator and then from the elevator to the loading dock. Movers were very patient with all of this and did a great job. When I find a new place I will use HaulPROZ to move from storage to the new house.

The team was great and responsible. I was moving out of a building without a functional elevator and the guys did a great job getting everything on the trucks relatively fast. Very physical and demanding job but the guys always kept a great attitude and smiles. It make my home transition less stressful than expected. I highly recommend this team. I will hire them again if necessary.

After having a very stress free and accurate move, I decided to write this comment. I hired Skyride Moving to move my house a week ago. The movers arrived on time with the packing materials. Movers did not waste a minute. They immediately started packing and loading my furniture. They packed everything with great care, carefully moved my sofa, shelves, bed. In the end they completed the move well within the estimated timeline and stored everything perfectly at the new place. It was a spotless performance at a very good price. I would like to thank them for being so efficient, friendly and polite.

I had to move my furniture and other miscellaneous stuff from a storage unit to my new studio apartment. Initially there was a set back from my end when I thought I had lost my storage unit key but went to meet the moving help guys at the location anyway. I told them of the situation and they were very affable and understanding. They offered to wait and did wait for about an hour while i was trying to get my unit to open but i couldn't, to which they were more than willing to reschedule at a later time with no fuss or any kind of issue at all. However, I did find my key to the storage unit in a while and called them back once they had left the place. They were back at my storage location in minutes and then it was a smooth operation. Smart moving is quick, professional and adjusting to your needs. I highly recommend Smart Moving for any of your moving needs. Bab and team have been very professional and understanding. My experience was excellent and my expectations were exceeded.

Our two helpers were great for moving our large items upstairs. They were quick, made a good team, and were very friendly. My only issue was that they weren’t as familiar with putting the furniture back together, and my husband had to do most of the work on that front. Would definitely hire again!

I had a fabulous experience with Available. I was late to get a mover booked, but they were able to fit my move in within a week of me getting a quote from Laura. Laura answered all of my questions through a couple of phone calls and I got an email reminder with all details the day before. On moving day, itself, I was blown away. The movers were a little late, but Available gave us an estimate of when they would get to our place and assured us that the clock started when the movers got here, not before. Our estimate was for 3 hours, but the move ended up taking 5. This was not because they were moving slow, but because we were moving a 4 bedroom house that had way more furniture/boxes than we realized at first. The movers never complained or hesitated about the extra time, they just kept powering through. Even when we bought them lunch, they didn't wait for us to ask them to get started again. They just got back to work after eating. They were also flexible with when to stop. They were just finishing up the beds when we were hitting our 5 hour mark and I explained that we didn't want to pay for an additional hour so they could stop and we would finish the beds. They were cool with that and called the office to say they were done right at that hour mark. They even got one bed finished right at the end! I cannot recommend these guys more. They were really good at what they were doing, efficient, and great to work with! I will absolutely be calling Available for my next move.

Had to move all of my stuff from point A to point B. The movers arrived early and were ready to work despite me not being 100% ready. They did the move in exactly 1 hour which is insane since when I first moved it took another moving company over 2 hours. The crew didn't damage a thing and everything arrived at my new place just as it was. Great movers and I'll be using them in the future for sure.

Daniel and his two comrads were excellent workers in moving to and from 2Bed/2Bath apartments from Herndon to Fairfax. They gave complimentary service in packing dress shirts, and pants; they covered/wrapped all furniture and TV's to protect my possessions. These guys were honest, trustworthy, and a pleasure to work with. I would hire them to move my mother if needed..

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.
