Very familiar with cat grooming. Stayed during the grooming and was surprised at how well she worked with the cat and got the job done.

Fabiola was very quick to respond to my request and within one day she was at my apartment meeting my two kitties. She is clearly an animal lover and my cats instantly warmed up to her! Two days later she was coming over daily to feed them while I was on vacation. She was so flexible (a few days my boyfriend was supposed to feed the cats but had an unexpected emergency and Fabiola responded right away and went over to take care of my cats). She followed up with me throughout the week and sent some photos and even went to get more cat food when I was running low. She cleaned their litter every day and it was so nice to come home to a fresh smelling apartment! I would highly recommend her to anyone and plan on using her in the future! Thanks Fabiola for making me feel comfortable leaving my fur babies with you!

Don't let the location fool you, she is hands down the best groomer I have come across in this area. I have a long haired cat...like really long and fluffy which equals lots of shedding. After taking my cat to various groomers across the DMV, I was always left disappointed. The groomer would lack professionalism or skills resulting in a one and done. When I came across Bianca I was a bit skeptical because of previous experiences but needed my little dude groomed so I took a chance. I'm so glad I did! She is professional, communicates well, and does great work! Not to mention she is reasonably priced. I am so happy I found her and so looking forward to bringing my cat back for his next cut. Thanks Bianca!

I have my cat Caiti that I bring to Belquest any time I go out of town. I trust the employees there that they will do an incredible job of looking after my cat and seeing to all her needs. Their care for my pet is absolutely amazing and whenever I bump into the staff in public they always ask how she is doing. I could not have been more blessed to find a more caring, compassionate and professional organization then Belquest Kennels. I would recommend them to anyone I know.

I felt very comfortable leaving my cats in Jill's care. One of my cats has some health issues and is on several meds and the fact that she is a Veterinary Technician was reassuring. No accidents, and both cats were happy upon our return.

Millie did an amazing job grooming my cat. I was on the fence about shaving her down or not. When I called her back to see if she would come back to shave her after deciding not to the first go round she came back and didn't even charge me extra! My sensitive cat felt comfortable with her right away. Her prices are comparable to the pet stores where you have to have your pet locked up in a cage and groomed with dozens of other animals around. She will drive right up to your house and give your pet one on one attention. I would recommend Millie to anyone looking for a great pet grooming service.

She has a way with dogs especially dogs who haven’t been groomed before like my 6 month old puppy brothers. Shes been our groomer from the beginning starting when they were 4 months. She’s firm but kind and she gets them to relax and comply and comfortable. I’ve actually used some of her tactics when brushing and washing them when needed on my own and it’s great. I highly recommend her!

Michelle is amazing! I have a finicky Persian and she was able to get her groomed even with the somersaults and Houdini moves my cat was doing. After the grooming, my cat calmed down and even let Michelle cuddle her. I'm very happy to have found her!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do cats have to get groomed?

It’s not crazy to have your cat groomed. Grooming will keep your cat’s fur soft and silky as well as give you early warning about any health concerns. Regular grooming can also help reduce the volume of hair your cat may be shedding and keep your longhair kitty cool if you live in a warm climate. Professionals competently groom your cat and are trained to manage them if they resist being groomed, while you may get scratched doing the same task. The national average price for cat grooming is $50-$70. Pet grooming prices may vary based on the task. For example, a bath and brush for shorthair cats may be $15, $20 for medium-hair cats, and $25 for a longhair. Cat groomers can also keep your cat’s ears cleaned, trim their nails, and provide haircuts if needed. Average prices for haircuts can vary from $30 to $95 or more, depending on whether the cat is shy or aggressive and whether their coat is in good condition, matted, or otherwise difficult to groom.

How much should cat grooming cost?

Keeping your cat groomed is an important part of maintaining their good health. The national average cost for cat grooming ranges between $50 and $70, with prices varying based on where you live and the services you request. Your cat’s temperament can also affect grooming prices. Scratching and hissing during a groomer visit can raise rates an average of $5-$10, or more, as hazard pay. Larger cats and long-haired cats that take longer to groom will also usually cost more. Here are some examples of cat grooming average costs:

      • Shave down or lion cut: $35-$60. These cuts preserve the hair around the face and tip of the tail but shave down the entire body. The lion cut is often recommended for extremely matted hair is exceedingly matted, for extreme heat, or for cats who are suffering from hairballs.
      • Ear cleaning and nail trim: $30.
      • Nail trim: $10-$15.
      • Bath and nail trim: $45.
      • Bath and sanitary trim: $55. A sanitary trim clips the hair on a cat’s behind to prevent fecal matting in longhair cats or cats that have mobility issues.
      • Bath, blow-dry, brush out, nail trim and ear cleaning: $40.
      • Full haircut, bath, and nail trim: $45-$95, depending on matting.

Where can you get your cat groomed?

Cat grooming keeps your cat’s fur tangle-free and clean. Most businesses that offer dog grooming or general pet grooming also offer cat grooming; some businesses even specialize solely in cat grooming. Look for a professional who has training grooming cats or belongs to a professional association such as the National Cat Groomers Institute, because cat grooming techniques can be different than for dogs. Cat grooming can encompass a wide range of services. In addition to haircutting, hair detangling and hairstyling, cat groomers can trim cat nails, clean out your cat’s ears, give flea baths, demat, trim facial fur, bathe and even blow-dry your cat. Health safety and etiquette requires your cat to be in good health and have all their vaccinations before using grooming services.
