Lawrence Lazarides says, "Shiraz and Abdul from Atlas GC were a pleasure to work with.Project Scope:Demo & rebuild 4' x 25' timber retaining wall w/ drainage stone, piping, etc.Rebuild wood fence on top of retaining wallDemo wood patio, install paver system & border river rock*They also worked with my HOA to install a walkway with stone pavers and an 8x8 timber staircase adjacent to the retaining wallBackground:Our project started with the desire to demo and rebuild a failing ~4' timber retaining wall in our rear patio which extended beyond our property line into public space. Our HOA opted to build a stair instead of their section of the retaining wall. As you can imagine, this got a little complicated as it required a number of different reviews and permits from the city.I opted to manage the permitting myself, which involved a number of revisions to drawings and schedule delays. AtlasGC was very patient and accommodating during this process and also helped me work with the city to get the drawings approved. The city-driven changes to the design introduced added cost after their initial quote, but in order to keep the project from falling further behind schedule, they moved forward and absorbed the added cost.Communication/Professionalism:Shiraz and Abdul were very communicative and professional during the entire process. During the design evolution, Shiraz assembled a number of revised quotes which were very clear, timely and professionally assembled. We discussed a number of different options for the construction of the wall and he was very transparent regarding price, time, etc. During construction Abdul, Melvin and his crew were very respectful of the area kept a clean construction site. Once started, the project progressed quickly and completed within the established timeframe.AtlasGC was also very patient and obliged to a couple of requests I made to make adjustments to their completed work per my personal preferences. They did this free of charge, without hesitation.Pricing:We had a number of contractors provide quotes on the project and AtlasGC was by far the most competitive. So competitive, in fact, that we decided to also have them hardscape our entire patio with a beautiful stone paving system.I highly recommend AtlasGC for their work, professionalism, collaborative spirit, and competitive pricing."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Getting concrete delivered for your project can be helpful for a number of reasons:

  • It often saves you a lot of time and effort compared to mixing bags of concrete by hand.

  • You'll get a thoroughly mixed and consistent batch, which is crucial for the strong, durable results that professional concrete contractors provide.

  • The service can help ensure you have the exact amount of concrete needed for your job. This prevents waste or shortages mid-pour.

  • Delivery trucks can often pour concrete directly into your forms using chutes, making it easier to manage large volumes or reach tough spots.

When getting concrete delivered, the pro should first confirm that the delivery area is clear and accessible for their truck. They'll then position the truck and its chute to pour the concrete exactly where you need it. Whether you're managing the project yourself or have hired a concrete contractor for the finishing work, you or your crew will work with the driver to manage the flow and ensure it's placed correctly before it sets. Once the pour is done, they'll clean their equipment on-site, usually in a designated washout area.

It usually takes a few hours to a full day for a professional concrete contractor to deliver and pour. A few things may impact how long it takes, including:

  • Project size: A larger slab or foundation will naturally require more concrete and more time to pour and finish.

  • Site accessibility: If the delivery truck can't get close to the pour site, it can take longer to move the concrete into place.

  • Site preparation: The area must be fully prepped with forms and reinforcement before the concrete can be delivered and poured.

  • Weather conditions: Extreme heat, cold, or rain can affect how the concrete sets and may add time to the job.

  • Finishing requirements: The type of surface finish you need, such as a smooth or brushed texture, will add to the total project time.

Remember: The timeline for your project will vary depending on many factors. Always ask your pro to provide an estimate.

Here are some steps to help you choose the right concrete delivery service:

  • Verify license and insurance: A reputable company should have a business license and be insured with general liability and commercial auto policies. Requirements vary by region, so check your local rules.

  • Get several estimates: Each estimate should break down the cost per cubic yard, the concrete mix, delivery fees, and any extra charges for waiting time or small orders. When you're ready to compare pros, you can find qualified concrete contractors in your area.

  • Read their reviews: Look for mention of punctuality, accuracy, and good communication.

  • Find out about warranties: The supplier should guarantee that the concrete meets the strength and consistency specifications you ordered. Be sure to ask how they handle issues if the mix is wrong when it arrives.

  • Ask additional questions: What is your fee for a 'short load' if I only need a small amount? How much time do I have to unload the truck before extra charges apply?

Several factors could affect the cost of your project, including:

  • Amount of concrete: The total volume you need is key. Concrete is typically priced per cubic yard.

  • Delivery distance: Your project’s distance from the supplier’s plant can add fuel surcharges or travel fees.

  • Concrete mix design: Specialty mixes, with qualities like high-strength or special coloring, will cost more.

  • Wait time on-site: Most companies include a set amount of time for the pour. If the truck has to wait longer than that, you’ll likely be charged an extra fee.

  • Site accessibility: If a standard mixer truck can’t get close to the pour location, you may need to rent a pump truck, which is an additional cost. Some concrete contractors can coordinate this for you.

Mixing your own concrete is cheaper for small repairs, but delivery is more cost- and energy-effective for big projects like patios. When you work with concrete contractors, they'll handle the delivery to save you time and serious physical labor. A professional mix can also save you from running into DIY errors that will result in having to redo the job.
