Brandon and 1st Home replaced a garbage disposal and cleared a very clogged sink! Brandon was professional, accommodated me in terms of scheduling, and did a great job at a reasonable price! I will definitely be using 1st Home's services again.

Julian and his partner were excellent. I had 2 50 gallon water heaters that broke down and he converted it to a 1 water heater system at 75 gallons. He completed the job in less than 3 hours and was very responsive, gave great instructions, and was very knowledgeable. I was also very surprised with the level of service I received given his quote was toward the low end of the other quotes I received. I will definitely use him again. I also consulted with him on a drain issue and he was very transparent on how I could fix it myself to save me money. He even took the time to tighten a couple of sink pipes that were slowly leaking. On a 5 star scale, I would give him 10 stars if I could.

Patrick was absolutely fantastic. He was very cordial. He showed up early. The job of cleaning out the drain took longer than we expected but he stayed until he got the job done and he had cleaned up. He only charged me what he had originally quoted me even though the problem was tougher than we thought. He seemed genuinely surprised when I tipped him and was very appreciative of it. I could not be happier with the results and his ability to work around my schedule. I highly recommend him for your plumbing needs and will use him again in the future if it’s needed. Thank you so much for all your hard work Patrick! I appreciate it!

Don't believe what they say about their prices being lower. The only reason I hired them was because they could come the next day. When the tech went to leave I told him to wait while I checked the new tub and shower knobs. Immediately water started falling into the room below - clearly didn't even check his own work. After fixing it he left. Later we noticed more issues with the handles coming loose and they had to come back to fix again. Avoid 20/20 drain unless they are a last resort.

My highest recommendation to Jon Drew! He replied immediately to my inquiry (on a Sunday afternoon!), and was on his way within the hour. He investigated the problem thoroughly, explained what was needed to repair my serious kitchen drain problem, and then did immaculate and highly effective work to correct it. He even checked the entire pipe system and gave me invaluable information regarding maintenance and future repairs. All this for a ***VERY REASONABLE SERVICE COST***. I am extremely happy with his work, and found him to be both highly professional and quite personable to deal with. He has earned a loyal customer in me, and I will not hesitate to call him for all my home plumbing needs in the future. 5 STARS!!

Had a great experience using J-Team for a utility sink repair (that fell from the wall and broke the drain pipe). I received a very reasonable preliminary quote through Thumbtack and his subsequent complimentary visit to assess the work matched that price. The work turned out to be a little trickier and longer than anticipated but it gone done very well. I liked it so much I've already asked for quotes for additional things I need done in the house (from bathroom caulking to a kitchen backsplash installation). Jaime is a great guy and I recommend him!

Walt and his guys installed a dishwasher and garbage disposal in our tiny kitchen where there had never been ones before. They did everything--cut out a space in the existing cabinet for the dishwasher, wired everything back to the electrical panel, did the plumbing, etc, and fixed a recently-discovered leak in our sink drain while they were at it! They were totally professional, did great work, and were super flexible as we were trying to get the work done as close to our move-in date as possible!

Rema was extremely courteous, professional, and most importantly on-time. We needed a drain pan installed in a confined space asap for a washer/dryer delivery. He came within 2 hours. He was extremely reasonable, and did an excellent job with meticulous attention to detail. Unfortunately, the delivery guys stated that the drain pan was not big enough and would not fit. Rema came out a second time (also only hours after calling), gave a more than reasonable estimate, purchased parts, and installed everything that afternoon. The machines were a tight fit with access to the exhaust and drain pipe in back, water lines to the right, and space to the left to allow us to access the detergent dispenser drawer. My wife and I are extremely pleased with the job he did. We will be hiring him again in the future to redo the bathroom vanity and shower/tub.

Hired them to cap and bypass a cracked sewer line. Where do I start... Work Quality: A+ All changes to code, sloped correctly (I checked), mounted properly. Professionalism: A+: Articulate, clear, concise and polite!! Responsiveness: A+: Easy to get hold of, responsive via both phone and email. Value: A+: Best price among licensed plumbers in Maryland. Punctuality: A+ Arrived within 6 minutes of promised time. Cleanliness: A+: they covered all floors, wore booties at all times (I didn't ask, they just did). Once the initial engagement was complete, I hired them again 2 days later with expanded scope to the work to include relocating our laundry sink, repairing/relocating laundry sink drain, adding a rough-in for a radon mitigation system, relocate ice maker feeder line & bypass valve. Their work and professionalism is simply amazing given the 20 or so plumbers I talked to in finding someone that can help us and provide us good value. It just doesn't get better than this.

Problem with water leaking from drain valve (outside of house). Determined to be caused by pressure relief valve under kitchen sink. Resolved by tightening/turning off relief valve. I am pleased with the final result.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.

Follow these additional tips for confidently hiring a plumber or other skilled professional.
