Needed a handyman to repair several items before I sold my condo, including multiple cracks in drywall and a broken faucet handle. Walter and his team not only repaired everything perfectly, but the price was more than reasonable when compared to other offers I received. Not only that, but I live out of state, and Walter was in constant communication and provided detailed before and after pictures. Very happy with the level of work and service provided.

I'm a little shocked as to how good EBRR services are. I used them to repair some drywall. The whole process was effortless, the end result is great, and I could see they took pains to clean up afterwards. Highly recommended!

Sam and his team were a lifesaver by responding quickly to our need to restore a condo in need of repair from water damage. The water damage had displaced a renter and every day passed meant another day with no home for the renter and lost rental income for the owner. Sam and team juggled schedules and worked extended hours to complete the list of projects required to get the condo ship shape. This included drywall repair, woodwork/trim replacement, and extensive painting, as well as light fixture and window blind installations. Sam was accessible the entire time, their workmanship was high quality and their work ethic was strong. I highly recommend this company and plan to use them again in the future!

We can't say enough good things about Julio and his team. He did some extensive drywall work, cut and hung new molding and trim, replaced our locks, and painted our entire basement in just a few days. He discovered a water leak and fixed it for a good price. He was courteous, professional, responsive, and gave us a very fair price on the entire project. He was there on time every single day, and we were comfortable leaving him a key. He cleaned up each day before leaving. He will be our go-to guy from now on.

My home needed the entire first floor ceiling replaced, every room and hall painted, railing and banisters painted, numerous drywall repairs, and recessed lighting installed. Nilto and his crew did exceptional work on every issue and he made sure the finished job met my expectations. He even offered to come by and put the two remaining light fixtures in place for me once I purchased them as a gesture of his appreciation for allowing him to work on such a big project in my home. I would rehire Nilto with no hesitation. No issues whatsoever. Showed up early every morning, even on weekends, and left late. Trustworthy as well.

Had drywall repair done. Very professional. Covered the floor with a drop cloth, used plastic to cover the furniture, primed after it was repaired and cleaned up when done. The wall looks great! Would definitely recommend and hire again.

Although we cannot speak of Andrey's repair & refinishing furniture skills because we did not use his services, I can say that he was very responsive, very polite and very thoughtful in all of our communications. His quote was very feasible too.

Mike's Drywall Service did an excellent job! Mike, his father, and his mom were very honest and straightforward people. Mike's father got the job done quickly, was very clean and tidy, and knew what he was doing. If you hire Mike's Drywall Service you will not be disappointed. My ceiling had a manufacture ceiling design in the basement, as well as in the Kitchen. Mike was able to texture the ceiling after cutting out damaged drywall from a leak, replacing it with new drywall, priming the areas that were stain, which did not get cut out, painting, and texturing both ceilings. Both ceilings had a different design, and Mike was able to blend the designs in with the rest of the ceiling after doing the repairs. I appreciate their service. Now a days it is hard to find an honest, reliable company, but you will find it in Mike's Drywall Service. :)

Gaston responded and came promptly to scope my modest drywall repair job. He was able to provide a quote tailored to just what I needed, which was not feasible online. No overselling. Mario arrived when agreed to and performed the work efficiently and neatly. His quality put the builder to shame. Gaston came as Mario finished to ensure that all went well.

Ted was awesome! A true professional in every sense of the word. Knowledgeable, clean, punctual and he over delivered for his fair price. He repaired a ceiling in my den that was damaged by a flood. He reinforced the beams in the ceiling, put up new drywall and even painted the ceiling and adjacent wall so everything matched. Then when he left he power-washed the ground outside because he left a slight trail of drywall that led from his car to my house! Extremely satisfied with his work!! A true artist and perfectionist at his craft.

Ricardo did an outstanding job of removing damaged drywall and installing, priming and painting new drywall in my kitchen ceiling. He even went above and beyond to repair the leak to the toilet which caused the ceiling damage. A plumber which I had previously hired to repair the toilet had done a botched job and Ricardo corrected it. He did this and completed everything in one day! He also did an excellent job of cleaning the work area when he was done, and his price was reasonable. I highly recommend Ricardo and will definitely be calling on him again!

Put in a request for drywall repair for my closet and Ahmed immediately responded to request and said that he could get the job completed same day. The drywall repair was done very well and they completed job by patching with mud, reattaching drywall with screws, and painting the closet. It took them about 3 hrs and the job was done very well. Definitely happy with the quality of the work by Ahmed and his partner.

Cesar did a great job -- prompt, courteous, efficient, and professional. The project of mounting our flat-screen TV on the wall turned out to be a little more complicated than he had anticipated when the wall was wood paneling and not drywall, but he had the right tools with him. My HDMI connector cables also proved to be too short for the new set-up, but Cesar had longer ones with him, for a modest additional charge. Highly recommended!

Paul's work was excellent. He came on-site to provide an estimate then performed the work exactly as he described. The price was very reasonable. He removed the old damaged drywall, installed 2x6 support boards between the frames then hung and painted new drywall and reinstalled the closet shelving with new support brackets. The closet shelves will never fall again! :-) The job site was always thoroughly cleaned before he left for the day. A true professional.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
