My husband and I hired Good Painter to refinish our kitchen cabinets. Andrey and his team did an excellent job and I am extremely happy with the results. Even though the previous home owners did not maintain the cabinets well (very sticky and dirty from grease), Good Painter managed to get it all off. Whenever I needed to reach Andrey, I was able to do so via text, e-mail, or phone and he was always able to take our requests. If you value quality work you should give Good Painter a try.

IMMACULATE- I hired Erick and his crew to paint my kitchen cabinets and the built-ins in my family room. Their attention to detail went above and beyond my expectations. They worked hard every day they were here and cleaned up beautifully each night before they left. My cabinets truly look factory finished. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would!

Power went out in our kitchen - lights, appliances, everything - and after doing a quick search on the web for electricians in our area, we came across A Good Electrician. Even though it was on a Saturday, Nick picked up the phone and agreed to come by our house to see what was going on after telling him it was a bit of an emergency. He arrived soon after, maybe an hour after we spoke on the phone. He figured it out right away and we had power back in our kitchen in less than an hour. I appreciated how Nick made the trip from Manassas (we live in Springfield) and he was very personable and honest about the work. I liked how it was less big business/corporate - we didn’t have to schedule an appointment through an operator or call center, be given a 4 hour window and deal with not knowing when they would actually arrive. He was fair and didn’t try to overcharge us. On top of all this, we recently had new vinyl siding installed and the outlet outside the house on our deck stopped working. It came up during our conversation and he asked to take a look and even fixed that for us while he was here. It was overall a great experience and I will definitely reach out to Nick and (A) Good Electrician again if I need any help with electrical work!

Jenrri and his crew came in and fixed a botched kitchen cabinet install job. He was responsive and worked within the estimated time frame he gave me. They installed the cabinets, appliances, and countertops quickly and professionally and worked quickly (and kept me informed) to remedy any setbacks along the way. Great work quality and the cost was very reasonable for the DC/NoVa-area.

Walt and his guys installed a dishwasher and garbage disposal in our tiny kitchen where there had never been ones before. They did everything--cut out a space in the existing cabinet for the dishwasher, wired everything back to the electrical panel, did the plumbing, etc, and fixed a recently-discovered leak in our sink drain while they were at it! They were totally professional, did great work, and were super flexible as we were trying to get the work done as close to our move-in date as possible!

They were great! It took a little time to get our appointment scheduled. I think they are busy because they are just so good. But the delayed time actually worked out for us in the end because we needed our contractors to finish the work before we had Luis come to clean. He treated my home with respect and care- removed his shoes each time he came inside the house. Always asking if there was anything else he could do because we had paid for 4 hours of their time and the deck job only took 2. He went back out and scrubbed the chairs done; they vacuumed our office and he helped me with the kitchen cabinets. I was so thrilled with their job well done and outstanding professionalism. I wish we had more projects at our house just to have them back. They are a bit pricey, but worth it when you see the professionalism and quality of work produced. You can see the before and after pictures- this was done by hand! Thank you Ed and Luis and I absolutely recommend them!

Learned about Curtis' company through work he did for a neighbor who was extremely satisfied with his work. They allowed us to see the work he'd done on their master bath and it looked great. We had our townhouse kitchen renovated by them. Curtis provided a very comprehensive estimate which detailed some items we hadn't considered such as daily clean-up, the payment schedule, and how receipts would be handled for materials purchases. His estimate came in at the middle of 4 estimates we received for tear-down of the original kitchen, new cabinet installation, tile floors and backsplash with some electrical and plumbing thrown in. He was able to accommodate an earlier start date when the cabinets we ordered were available earlier then expected by 2 weeks. He and his 2 assistants worked efficiently and more importantly they took care when doing the demo (and throughout the project) to protect the hallway floors and other areas of the house from dust, dirt and debris. They worked very efficiently and by the end of the 2nd day were starting on laying the tile floor. Cabinet installation went smoothly and he was kind enough to point out a couple items which we needed to report back to the cabinet makers regarding some bowing. Overall the project took approximately 9 business days from start to finish with a few small visits to finish up hardware, trim and reinstallation of the dishwasher once the counters and sink folks (separate company) finished their piece. His 2 assistants were equally pleasant and made us feel comfortable so we could ask questions as needed. We plan to use Curtis' company Oddjobs.pro again for upcoming bathroom renovations and some other work we need done.

Naser was great. He was on time, fixed our problems while only doing a estimate walk-thru, and didn't charge us anything. We insisted on giving him $50 because now we no longer need a plumber. Our big issues were the garbage disposal and leaky toilet. He found a tiny drill bit in the garbage disposal left over from kitchen contractors and fixed our toilet on the spot.

Tim and his crew are amazing. Tim was punctual for the quote and was very approachable. His crew are extremely professional, kind, and capable. They removed an old tile shower, old tile vanity, toilet, and tiled floor for us. Then they painted, put in an acrylic shower surround, put in vinyl flooring, recessed medicine cabinet, new toilet, and new vanity. Did I mention it only took them 4 days? Price was extremely fair and the work is extremely well done! Thank you guys!

We used NewRay to do a complete remodel (cabinets, countertop, plumbing, electrical, backsplash) the kitchen of a house we had just purchased. They did an excellent job on our kitchen and we will be calling them later on to remodel our bathrooms. Everything was done in a timely manor (estimated 2-3 weeks and finished in just over 1 week). The communication between the both of us was very well as well. The whole team was wonderful to work with and we would not hesitate to use them again

Jorge was professional, he arrived on time and the rate was resonable. He painted the kitchen cabinets, living room and dining and finished the job faster than he'd initially estimated and everything looked amazing. I'd definitely hire him again!

John responded to a project I posted on Thumbtack in mid-August. We then communicated about him also doing a couple other things for us, including drywall and painting. I texted photos and he provided a quote, which we agreed to. He stated he would put us on the schedule for the last week of August, which was fine. On Monday, August 27, I texted to confirm which day this week he would be coming out. No response. I followed up Tuesday and Wednesday, via both text message and through Thumbtack. I have yet to hear any response. If he decided he didn't want to do the work, fine, but at least tell me. I now have a more abbreviated timeline and need to start over seeking a new handyman.

I had shopped around with several other local vendors and not only did Craft provide the best price, but they provided the best customer service. They were not pushy and respected my budget. The "sales pitch" just gave me options on different kitchen cabinet/countertop lines and was factual, not clearly biased to one brand or another like other vendors. The designer gave his opinion when asked. Craft let us do some aspects of the installation ourselves to save money. This enabled me to afford more since we are a handy family. My designer was great and remained my point of contact throughout the job. I was never passed from designer to a job manager or anything like that. He provided me with multiple options for my kitchen cabinets in the initial design. He practiced "measure twice, cut once" and was flexible when I decided to make a change on the size of a cabinet after we signed the contract (but before cabinets were ordered). My experience was positive and I would recommend Craft to anyone! My new kitchen is night and day better than my old one in look and functionality.

Henry did a fantastic job repairing a kitchen cabinet whose side was separating from the back and thus starting to come down from the wall. After fixing that though, he noticed that several others were not as secure as they should be and tightened up the remaining ones. He responded to my request on Thumbtack quickly, arrived on time, cleaned up thoroughly, and charged a very fair price. Would definitely hire him again.

They did an excellent job- I would highly recommend the work. We had a number of drywall issues that had to be repaired before painting and they took care of them. He actually had to do three coats in our kitchen and everything looks fantastic.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
