Victor provided powerwashing and landscaping services for me. My concrete patio courtyard has seen better days. I contracted with Victor and I must say he and his staff did an outstanding job! Nothing but rave reviews from my family and friends who saw the transformation. If you are in the need of power washing, new landscaping, you will not be disappointed. I wish I can show before and new pictures of my patio courtyard. Thanks Victor.

We moved into a two-bedroom house and our designer recommended EBRR as a general contractor for our major renovation projects. Luis, the project manager, came in, listened to all our needs and specificity notated our request. We had a complete estimate for everything within only a few days including cost and time frames. Barry and EBRR was able to accommodate with all architect's drawings, all subcontractors and permits. The work was done on time and within budget, even with the inevitable surprises that always come up during renovation. They were punctual, always respectful and very neat.

The gave a fair estimate for the work and removed several trees for me. I'm a Real Estate agent and deal with many landscape tree companies but these guys are the best. I plan using them for now on for all my projects. Great work!!!!!!!!

These young men were polite, efficient and hard working. They are not trained landscapers, and may need a degree of guidance from the home owner -- we had a minor misunderstanding about what to weed and what not to -- but they behave in a professional adult manner and do very good work. I would absolutely hire them again, or recommend them to friends and neighbors.

We hired Reinaldo @ Del Ray Landscaping to remove the white rocks from the plant bed in our front yard. He did a reasonable job, however, we still found quite a rocks left around the edges and towards the back of the plant bed, otherwise I would have given him 5 stars. It was lot of rocks, at least 10 wheel barrows full. A nice guy and would hire him again. We changed the original scope of work because we decided to do the planting, landscape lights and irrigation system ourselves.

I can say nothing but great things about Mr. Soto and Makimata Landscape. I pondered my project for a long time. I looked at the Makimata website and decided that it was the firm I wanted to work with. Mr. Soto did everything he promised to do, in the time frame he promised, and with professionalism throughout. From initial visit, to a proposed plan and contract, through to the beginning of the project, and on to the end, Mr. Soto and his crew did a wonderful job. He reconfigured my back yard space, built a new deck, redid the lower back yard patio, and totally changed my front yard area. Everything looks amazing, and I have people stop me when I am outside to comment about how great it all looks. If you are looking for someone to reimagine your yard, garden, or deck, I recommend Makimata Landsape without hesitation.

Alan is very easy to work with and always responsive to emails and calls. His landscape designs captured everything we hoped for and his knowledge of hearty, deer-resistant and native plant selections was very helpful. Alan was very accommodating of our needs and provided advice on a range of topics both inside and outside his areas of responsibilities for a new house we were building.

P&P is a fantastic company to work with. They did a fantastic job adding shrubs to our front yard and re-leveling our back patio that was poorly installed originally and settled drastically. Highly recommend them for any landscape or hardscape work.

They did a complete landscaping around the perimeter of my home in preparation of it being listed for sell. Steve and Anthony are very courteous and professional in their work and listen well to what the client wants. They do a great job of estimating the work and scheduling the work to be done and we didn't have to wait long at all to get things done. Also, I needed some additional work what wasn't scheduled originally and they were able squeeze us in and get it completed as well. Overall we are very satisfied with the results and have had neighbors complement us on how it looks.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.
