Ed Bilo and team did an excellent job replacing our old vinyl floor with hard wood floor. We spoke by phone a few times to decide if they were the right fit. Finally we scheduled a time for a visit. They are easy to work with and we're very happy with the result. Overall a great service, fast, reliable, and very competitive prices. Recommended 100%. Many thanks to EBRR!

I was delighted by my experience working with Ordonez. He installed a marble backsplash in my kitchen. His price was competitive but it was his conscientiousness, thoroughness, and commitment to excellence that impressed me the most. I’ve worked with many home contractors, and this is one of the best. Fully recommend!

I could not have been happier with my first interaction with Patrick. Liked him right away. And I could tell that he takes pride in his work. The work that he did for me (bathroom floor tile) was excellent, quickly-done, and fairly priced. I will definitely be using him again in the future. Thanks, Patrick!

HP Natural had exceptional service. I would highly recommend this company to people that are looking for cleaning services. HP Natural not only did a great job, but ultimately exceeded my expectations. They obviously go far and beyond for their clients. My carpets and wood floors have never looked so fresh and new. My house looks like no one has ever lived in it because of the outstanding job that HP Natural did. HP Natural not only provides exceptional service, but the price was reasonable and very affordable. I compared prices with many other companies, and HP Nature by far was the most affordable. I would without a doubt, have HP Natural come back to do more services to my home. I am very pleased with the outcome and cost effective work that HP Natural provided.

Matt did a nice job installing marble floor and wall tile in a small powder room. Worked around walls that were far from parallel, making the layout difficult, to finish with an excellent result.

The people that own and operate this company are some of the hardest working craftsmen that I have dealt with over the past twenty five years of remodeling and keeping up with my home's needs. They can't do enough for the customer. They're professional, respectful and very reliable. They show up on time and they do not quit until the job is done. They take great pride in their work and they know what they're doing. We did the floors on both levels of our colonial. One floor was a refinish and the other floor required carpet removal and finishing from scratch. Both floors were beautifully done. I highly recommend this company that stands by its product.

Ali and his team were absolutely amazing! My partner and I shopped around for a few other vendors through Thumbtack but running into Total Remodeling Group, Inc. was a blessing! Here's how/why: 1) They understood our needs and worked with our budget from the the initial visit. There were NO pocket-breaking surprises! 2) Communication: We felt comfortable communicating what are expectations were and Ali gave us a peace of mind, starting from the paint jobs throughout our new home and sanding/polishing all our hardwood floors. We were kept in the loop of each process on a day-to-day basis. Very personable crew! 3) Quality of work: SUPERB! We've already received compliments on our floors and paint jobs. They were clean. No mess We are beyond satisfied and will definitely work with them again as we settle into our new home. (Photos to come!)

I am very pleased to recommend Karl for any detailed job at your home. He is very professional in performing all kinds of house cleaning and handyman jobs. He helped me a lot during my apartment move out and I was able to get my deposit refunded with no problem. I used him for cleaning and for painting fixing my doors and base board trim. He did an excellent job including: • Professionally cleaned my carpets. Sweep, moped, washed, waxed, and polished the floors • Dusted and polished cabinets and furniture. • He cleaned, disinfected and polished the kitchen and bathroom fixtures and appliances. Karl is sympathetic and a genuine all-rounder. He is flexible and he is able to perform right tasks at the right time. He is aware of the importance of meeting deadlines specially when people is moving out. I strongly recommend Karl.

I had Unique Homes (Simeon) complete 4 different projects for me, each progressively bigger. All of them were successful -- although not without little issues that came up now and then, but that were always taken care of. The prices were very good and the jobs were done well. Job #1 - I had a front porch that needed concrete work. This was a relatively small job, but it was done well. Job #2 - This was a remodel of small bathroom. Again, the job was done well and was a good price. And Simeon indulged us owners half-way through the project when we did not like something about the floor tiles we had chosen. Totally our issue, we did not really like how it looked when it started getting installed. But he undid some of his work and we were able to fix it. Job #3 - This was a full bathroom remodel, so a more significant job. Again, this project was done well, but the costs savings really started to come through on this project. We were very happy with the final look of the bathroom. Job #4 - This was by far the biggest job. It was a complete remodel of our master bathroom. I had received various quotes from other contractors in the $30-40K range for the project (including materials). Simeon's prices were less than a third of that, however that did not include any of the materials. In the end, I think the materials is the source of a lot of the savings since I think the others hide mark-ups (or store kick-backs) in the materials. For this project we went to some high end stores and looked at their display designs and chose/copied what we liked. We chosen something that was based on a white marble tile as a base ...and Lowes/HD carried it at a fraction of the cost of Tile City. I think we saved $5k on the marble along. We bought some of the more unique accent stuff in Tile City at full price, but for everything else we were able to replicate the Tile City look with HD or Lowe's materials of equal quality. We bought a high end shower panel, but bought it through Costco. The same fixture at a high-end bathroom store was thousands more than what we paid. At some higher end stores Simeon would give us the Unique Homes discount that he had negotiated. Some places (like the glass doors for the shower) were still expensive...but I ended up with the same bathroom that would have been $40k for about $20K. So yes, I recommend Unique Homes.

Stacey deep cleaned 2 Bathrooms and Kitchen after tenants moved out and left a MESS. Walls, floors, appliances and surfaces were cleaned as well as drawers and cabinets wiped out. I found Stacey's Clean Sweep on Angie's list and chose to use her services because she can provide 'green' cleaning. I got ahold of her on the first try and scheduled her to come out to do the service. I was living overseas at the time and did not know that the house was is such HORRIBLE condition. Stacey did an excellent job. She took pictures to show me before and after shots of her service. The stove top, front and backsplash had a great deal of grease splatter that was caked on. There was brown tar in the bathrooms on the walls where the tenants had been smoking that needed cleaned as well. The bathrooms had some clogged drains but Stacey worked with what she had, gave me a call to update me on the situation and ask me how I wanted to proceed. I appreciate the open lines of communication and she provided suggestions for what she would do to problem solve. This is my first experience hiring a house cleaner. I had attempted to hire another company but they refused service because the house was very dirty. If we have cleaning done again we'll be sure to use Stacey's Clean Sweep. It was a pleasure.

LeVonne was very helpful. She came to the property on a weekend to give an estimate. She brought samples for me to choose from and gave me a detailed estimate of several options for turning my hardwood floors into polished concrete. She took the time to answer all of my questions throughly and included pictures.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

    • Old standard or electric toothbrush
    • Stiff bristle brush
    • Spray bottle
    • White vinegar
    • Commercial grout cleaner

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.
