Mer L. says, "Amit was extremely thorough, talking me through the safety precautions of the job before starting it. We spoke on the phone about it and while there was a moment where we were using the same phrase for different things “drywall anchor” vs. “furniture anchor”, we were able to work it out. And eventually, we used both drywall anchors and a furniture anchor to hang my extremely heavy mirror. He was very punctual - telling me he would arrive around 1:30, he showed up at 1:27. He quoted me $50 for the job even though it took a bit longer than expected. I am very pleased with the whole experience working with Amit and would call him again without hesitation."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Professional furniture assemblers can put together a wide range of office furniture for homes and businesses:

  • Desks and workstations: Writing desks, standing desks, cubicles, and multi-person workstations.

  • Office chairs: Task chairs, executive chairs, stools, and drafting chairs.

  • Storage furniture: Filing cabinets, bookcases, shelving units, and credenzas.

  • Conference furniture: Conference tables, chairs, and modular meeting setups.

  • Reception furniture: Reception desks, waiting room seating, and side tables.

Pros are familiar with many brands and systems, helping ensure furniture is assembled correctly, safely, and ready for use.

Here's why you might want to hire a pro for this project instead of doing it yourself:

  • Most pros work efficiently to get your office set up quickly, minimizing downtime for your business operations.

  • Proper assembly helps ensure furniture is sturdy and safe, which is why finding a qualified pro for your office furniture assembly is key to preventing accidents.

  • Pros typically arrive with all the specialized tools required for the job, so you don’t have to worry about supplying them.

  • Experienced assemblers know how to handle pieces carefully, avoiding scratches, dents, or other damage to your new furniture.

  • They often manage the cleanup and disposal of bulky packaging, leaving your workspace tidy and ready for use.

Before hiring for office furniture assembly, be sure to ask your pro these questions:

  • Are you insured in case of accidental damage to the furniture or my office?

  • How do you charge for your services—is it a flat rate, or do you charge by the hour?

  • Do you have experience assembling this specific brand or type of office furniture?

  • Will you bring all the necessary tools and equipment for the job?

  • How long do you estimate the assembly will take from start to finish?

  • Does your service include unboxing the items and disposing of all the packaging materials?

  • Will you be working alone, or will you have a team helping with the assembly?

There are several factors that might impact the cost of this project, including:

  • Number and complexity of pieces: The scope of the job is a key driver of cost. Assembling a single chair will be less expensive than outfitting an entire office, and a pro specializing in furniture assembly will price the project accordingly.

  • Type of furniture: The cost can vary depending on what you need built. For example, a large conference table or a modular desking system is typically more complex to assemble than a few standard office chairs.

  • Disassembly and removal: If you need a pro to take apart and haul away old furniture before building the new items, this will likely add to the total cost.

  • Site accessibility: A pro will need a clear, spacious area to work. Factors like navigating stairs, tight hallways, or a lack of a service elevator may increase the time and labor involved.

  • Item condition: Furniture that’s new-in-box with clear instructions is usually the most straightforward to assemble. Used items or pieces missing parts may require more troubleshooting and time.
