I thought I had a raccoon or squirrel in my attic and was concerned about possible damages. They came out and did free checkup - it was mice and they recommended plan of action. On a Sunday!!! Tuesday they came to do all the work. Looking forward to using them for the quarterly checkups!

Leo was very punctual and found the problem with our dryer vent right away! Turns out our builder put a trap in that automatically will build up lint over time, unfortunately for us it was only 18 months after we moved in. Leo inspected, cleaned and reassembled everything under 2 hrs. The amount of lint and debris he removed was astounding. I would recommend him to anyone. We will use his services again when the time comes.

From start to finish, Eric and team were invaluable in handling our raccoon problem. Always prompt, courteous and professional, we were so thankful we decided to trust Pest Proof once it was completed. The job was quite intense including the trapping & removal of two adult raccoons, removal & replacing of all attic contents and insulation, disinfection & deodorizing of the attic prior to laying new insulation and securing gable vents to prevent future entry. Eric was always available when we called, even when awaiting the birth of their new son! We are so appreciative to Eric and his team, and wish them the best of luck.

They gave us an excellent quote of $65 for ant extermination. When I spoke with them, they gave me a higher quote (can't remember what it was but it was more than $65). I asked them about the original quote and they told me that they set up an automated message that quotes people at $65. Ultimately, they said they would honor the $65 for being first time clients. When they arrived at the house, I told them where our ant problems were. He told me that it would cost $135. Again, I brought up the original quote and said we reached out to them bc of this good deal. They finally agreed to the $65. Well...it was a complete waste of money. They were in and out in less than 5 minutes. They put these gel bait traps down that we could have just done for ourselves and for much less. They didn't even spray. Seriously, they put 4 ant traps down, didn't even do the whole house, 2 in the kitchen and 2 outside - for $65. Completely ridiculous and uncalled for to charge that much for something we could have done ourselves. Ultimately I feel like we really got scammed and I'm incredibly disappointed in this company. My husband is LIVID. If the owner reads this, I feel like we are owed a complete refund or at least a discount of some kind. This work and service was completely below par.

Demetrius has been a great help to my family in Washington, DC. First of all, whenever we called he either came that evening or early the next day. I know he was busy and he made a concerted effort to assist us quickly. Second, his professionalism is outstanding. He knows the area well and can pinpoint what rodents or bug issues are immediately. Third, he comes back to make sure the issues are resolved and if they aren't he works hard to complete the job in an unbelievably timely manner. Fourth, he is a lovely man, kind and thoughtful. I cannot recommend Demetrius enough. We are glad we found him and have recommended him without reservations to our entire block.

We had a problem with rats. We called a different service and they set some traps in the basement. Not one rat was caught. Three weeks later, we had a bigger problem seeing rats regularly. We called this service and they were fantastic!! Val came over and he fixed our problem. He placed two large bait stations with different baits on each one and also set different types of traps. After the service was finished and we no longer had any more rats he came back and sealed two entry points. I would recommend Val & this service to everyone!

Before we moved into our new house we knew we had mice. Brett was at the house within 24 hours of contact on thumbtack. Since we had a week before we moved in, he set tons of traps and bait to fix the problem quickly. He also sprayed for bugs inside and out. He came back at the end of the week to check on things and make sure our move in was pest free! Brett was professional and friendly and unlike many professionals we've had at the house, he did not try to take advantage of us as first time home buyers. Gave us good advice, service and a fair price.

I saw a mouse and flies a week and a couple of days ago in my bedroom, kitchen and basement, then I went to home depot to buy mouse traps and some insecticides for killing flies but these flies and mouse are still disturbing my peace. So I called these guys from primax to come eliminate these pest from my house, the primax guy clean all the droppings behind my stove, sealed all the holes behind my stove and set about four traps, also sprayed all the doors and windows in and out of my bedroom and inside my basement. Surprisingly I got four mouse in all the four traps and since then I haven't saw any flies in my bedroom and basement, and I think these primax guys deserve a review. They are really good at what they do. Will use them once more.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

      • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
        • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
      • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
        • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
      • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
        • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.

How much does it cost to get rid of cockroaches?

Cockroaches are not only ugly, they are difficult to get rid of. Quick and resilient, they can be hard to get rid of without professional help once they have inhabited a house. Nationally, the average range for cockroach pest control cost is $80-$130. Extermination professionals typically provide a free estimate to determine the extent of the infestation. They’ll check for the main sources of the bugs, identify bug access and entry points into your home, and determine the best method for elimination. There are a variety of cockroach extermination tools including gel baits and traps, pesticide foggers, desiccants (which dry out the cockroaches), neurotoxins, and other pesticides. Pest control costs can also cover preventive measures like regular spraying and trap maintenance. Some regions of the country are much more prone to cockroach problems than others, so pest control costs may need to be part of your quarterly budget. Cockroaches love dark, humid, and warm areas and water sources, so place traps near your washer and dryer and under your sinks.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

      • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
        • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
      • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost to get a pest inspection?

In general there is no cost for a pest inspection. Exterminators typically provide a free property or building inspection and then provide you with a written estimate outlining the necessary treatment and cost. The home visit allows the exterminator to assess the problem and let you know what your pest control cost will be if you contract with their services. You may need a termite inspection for real estate purposes. This will be a verified inspection showing that the house in question is termite-free (often done before a sale). The inspection may cost a flat rate, such as $125-$150, depending on house size.

It’s hard to predict pest control costs sight unseen due to the variety of factors that go into pest treatment. For example, a bedbug problem for one customer may be confined to one room and be easy to access and treat in one visit if the room is clear of clutter and the bedbugs have been caught early. In another home, a bedbug problem may also be confined to one room, but there’s a great deal of clutter, providing more hiding places for the bugs and requiring more spray and labor for the exterminator, as well as many pieces of large furniture in the room that need to sprayed. Depending on the maturity of the infestation, a bedbug problem may require multiple visits to entirely eliminate. This is why many companies provide a free inspection to determine pest control costs and provide you the most accurate quote possible.
